04:34 idiosyncrat_ All VM operations have now been converted to Lua.
04:34 idiosyncrat_ To convert the entire VM, it remains to convert the outer loop, and a couple of data structures.
04:34 idiosyncrat_ Once I have an all Lua VM, I'll be posing a question to the IRC channel about what to do next.
04:35 idiosyncrat_ I'll ask in more detail at the time, but the main alternatives:
04:36 idiosyncrat_ 1.) Proceed to add new syntax to the SLIF rules, which was the original purpose of this VM-to_Lua conversion.  The new syntax required more flexible semantics.
04:37 idiosyncrat_ 2.) Allow custom Lua actions, which are likely to be much faster than the Perl ones.  With these we could revisit our JSON benchmarking.  The Libmarpa engine was not the main cost in this -- it was the overhead of the needed Perl callbacks.
04:38 idiosyncrat_ Good night!

07:45 ronsavage I'm tempted to argue that (2) is premature optimization,  but that my be in the eye of the beholder.
07:45 ronsavage Aggg. 'my' => 'may'.
