01:47 idiosyncrat ronsavage: I'll admit I'm pretty negative on the whole scene.  On blogs.perl.org, there was a serious attempt to troll me off of it some years ago ...
01:48 idiosyncrat which came to nothing, but at 63 my time & energy is short, and I think better spent elsewhere.
01:48 idiosyncrat I ask Q's on this IRC channel ...
01:49 idiosyncrat and if I'm serious, I can go to the Google mailing list.
01:49 idiosyncrat Also, in a lot of fields some of the mavens are Marpa enthusiasts and will respond to a 1-on-1 question.
01:51 idiosyncrat hobbs: Module::Build::Tiny is an interesting idea.  I'd never considered it, because my rule is to regard a non-core dependency as a gun aimed at my head.
01:51 idiosyncrat I do introduce new ones, but only when forced to do so.
01:51 idiosyncrat However (is this right?) with Module::Build::Tiny, it could be packaged with the distribution in the inc/ directory, couldn't it?
01:53 idiosyncrat Packaging it with the distribution eliminates most of the problems that come with a dependency -- in essence, it ceases to be an outside dependency.
02:02 idiosyncrat ronsavage: Back to the topic of forums and quality of advice ...
02:03 idiosyncrat To state explicitly the advantage of this IRC channel and the Google mailing list, they are composed of people who have a stake in seeing me & Marpa/Kollos succeed ...
02:04 idiosyncrat so they'll actually stop before making an intelligent-sounding statement and ask themselves "Yes, this might make me look smart, but is it really to the point & helpful?"
02:06 idiosyncrat So even in cases where members of one or the other have been dubious (or worse) about a direction I was taking, they're constructive about it ...
02:07 idiosyncrat Almost to a fault, actually.  There are times when I've asked for objections, gotten none, but had to realize the silence was the kind the expressed a lot of doubts out there in the Marpa community.
02:08 idiosyncrat And I can usually assume that if I have only one objector, they're not a troll, but in fact represent several other people who are staying quiet.
02:10 idiosyncrat ronsavage: I'm not the only one who has this kind of problem, btw.  In one of our exchanges, Larry Wall told me he's tried to go out onto public Perl forums, and found it just wasn't possible.
02:11 idiosyncrat I've gotta assume that if they're not gonna fix the problem for Larry, they aren't gonna fix it for me.

03:10 ronsavage JK: Understood, but yuk at the same time. I'll ask on the CPAN tester email list though.
03:16 idiosyncrat ronsavage: I appreciate that you are willing to do this.
03:17 idiosyncrat I'm slow to ask anyone to do this for me, because I try to make it a rule (guideline?) not to ask anyone to do anything I would not (eventually) do myself.
05:30 idiosyncrat Good night!

07:33 ronsavage JK: Did you see http://www.wumpus-cave.net/2017/02/20/callback-functions-between-c-and-perl/?
08:01 hobbs you probably could put Module::Build::Tiny in inc/ but it does have a few dependencies so you would have to include those as well, and I don't think it's the way it's intended to be used. All non-ancient CPAN clients (since the 5.10 era) support configure-requires -- that's actually what we got in 5.10, not MB in core. And MBTiny is made with enough care that I don't think it has caused anyone trouble :)

20:25 jdurand Re https://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2017-02-26#i_14167017 - Good decision -;
20:29 jdurand Ron, what was the real question behind cmake and perl ? IMHO, if one is thinking to Acme::Cmake, great care should be taken if cmake is already installed on the system - it can very well be that its defaults are simply not perl's default, please somebody correct me if I am wrong.

20:31 jdurand In my latest project, I finally wrote myself a "CMakeObjects.PL" that is a Config::AutoConf based stuff that will compile all the objets (I do not say link, just compile), and this is inject into a Makefile.PL that Dist::Zilla::Plugin::MakeMaker::Awesome
20:34 jdurand "injected into a Makefile.PL via"
20:35 jdurand And the cmake's CMakeLists.txt symply calls dzil with a well tuned dist.ini - c.f. https://github.com/jddurand/c-marpaESLIF/tree/master/src/bindings/perl

21:58 ronsavage jdurand: Re http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2017-02-27#i_14174736. Jeffrey mentioned CMake. I'm not intending to use CMake myself.
