17:11 idiosyncrat An annoying problem with one of the R2 3.001_001 tests
17:12 idiosyncrat http://www.cpantesters.org/cpan/report/dc8b7b30-fefa-11e6-a074-e1beba07c9dd
17:13 idiosyncrat GNU's autoconf does not in theory, and usually in practice, require GNU's autoconf to be installed on the build or target systems -- that's one of its advantages over CMake.
17:14 idiosyncrat But autoconf's Makefile is set up so that it will attempt to reconfigure itself (which *does* require autoconf to be installed) if the timestamps indicate files are out of date.
17:15 idiosyncrat This means, if there is a timestamp issue on a system without autoconf installed, the Makefile will look for it and, not finding it, abend the build.
17:15 idiosyncrat So success or failure depends on the timestamps in the tar file.
17:17 idiosyncrat Add to this that Makefile resolutions are often rounded, which can cause Makefile's targets to be triggered spuriously.
17:17 idiosyncrat For example, on my Raspberry Pi, whether or not autoconf reconfiguration is invoked is random, because of timestamp rounding.
17:19 idiosyncrat This may require another developer's release of Marpa::R2, before I do an indexed release.
17:26 idiosyncrat This XKCD, in case you missed it: http://xkcd.com/1782/
