04:57 idiosyncrat1 lucs: It's Breton for "Good morning"
04:59 idiosyncrat1 I choose it because my mom is Breton, and at the turnover point in the IRC log it's just past midnight in Brittany.
05:00 idiosyncrat1 Apparently (I'm not a Breton speaker) it's also "Good day", so it's appropriate right up to 6PM Breton time ...
05:00 idiosyncrat1 but if I'm late I usually substitute the appropriate California greeting.
05:03 lucs Ah, thanks for the explanation :)

06:53 ronsavage Not only that, re demat, but adios in Spanish means both hello and goodbye, although most English speakers have probably not heard that it can mean hello.
20:04 idiosyncrat Actually, I was tempted by "Aloha", which can be used any time of day, but there's no personal connection or timezone relevance.
