01:31 grantm I've just logged a feature suggestion for discussion: https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/issues/445
01:31 dipsy [ #445: Feature Suggestion: Add Perl Mongers group affiliation to account profile - Issues - CPAN-API/metacpan-web - GitHub ]
01:32 rafl it's already there - the profile edit page just doesn't expose it yet
01:32 grantm oh awesome - I did search the issues and didn't find anything - should have asked here first

15:10 Mithaldu huh, i just got an email from the PAUSE indexer that ne of my uploads failed indexing
15:10 Mithaldu yet it shows up on metacpan
15:10 Mithaldu huh?
15:10 dipsy huh is there really such a quiz
15:13 mo metacpan can't wait for pause to update it's index file, so we just index it right away as soon as it hits the cpan master mirror
15:13 mo since pause won't add it to the 02packages file, the status won't switch to latest in metacpan and is thus not searchable
15:14 apeiron so you'll find the index-failed dist if you ask nicely, but otherwise it's invisible, yeah?
15:14 mo right
15:14 mo it will show up on the /recent page
15:15 mo but not anywhere else unless you know the exact package name
15:15 apeiron yeah, thus "ask nicely"
15:17 Mithaldu ah, that sounds good enough :)

16:27 daxim bricas, I just have read perlbuzz.  how came CPAN::Changes::Spec about?
16:38 bricas daxim: hey. :)
16:38 bricas daxim: err, can you rephrase the question?
16:41 bricas bbiab -- lunch.

16:56 daxim which discussion or community consensus does this spec stem from? I see nothing relevant on the perl-qa or cpan-workers lists
17:02 rwstauner daxim: i think it stemmed from http://blog.urth.org/2011/01/changes-file-how-and-how-not-to.html

17:03 rwstauner and surrounding discussion in the perl echo chamber
17:05 run4flat Hello everyone, I'm trying to find the most efficient route to getting the dependency data that's reported on the right side of  metacpan.org, as well as on mapofcpan.org
17:05 run4flat anybody have any pointers?
17:05 run4flat I've been digging through source code, but I've not found anything obvious
17:05 run4flat that is, I haven't struck on it yet
17:06 daxim rwstauner, I don't see any(qw(bricas ltjake)) in there; also, which other part of the echo chamber apart from the lists I named is relevant?  don't tell me they hashed out the spec in blog comments, because it would break my heart
17:08 rwstauner i'm not aware of any formal discussion, but i believe there were a few posts about it
17:08 daxim I need to see it
17:08 run4flat I played with MetaCPAN::API, but I didn't see any output about dependencies
17:09 run4flat I know it's a complex question that depends on your OS and what other modules you have installed, but there are lists out there already
17:09 sartak daxim: what is your intent here?
17:10 doy daxim: http://blog.alternation.net/revisiting-cpan-changes-files
17:10 dipsy [ Revisiting CPAN Changes files - /home/bricas/blog ]
17:10 rwstauner runflat: deps are part of the "release" output.  see http://explorer.metacpan.org/?url=%2Frelease%2FMoose
17:10 dipsy [ MetaCPANExplorer ]
17:11 rwstauner run4flat: ^^ not sure if you're looking for more
17:11 run4flat holy cow
17:11 run4flat rwstauner: thankyou thankyou thankyou
17:11 run4flat rwstauner: I guess I didn't see it. This helps a lot
17:11 rwstauner run4flat: np ;-)
17:16 daxim sartak, the intent was to find out about the intent.  that blog was the necessary background information
17:17 sartak uh huh

17:31 run4flat rwstauner: do you know how this data gets generated? I'd guess that the data comes from CPANTesters, so maybe I could use ORDB::CPANTesters
17:32 run4flat maybe i'll send AdamK an email
17:32 rwstauner the deps listed in a release come out of the META file in that release
17:32 run4flat yes, I'm just wondering whose server holds the underlying data
17:33 run4flat eventually I'd like to generate (and study) the dependency graph of CPAN
17:33 rwstauner metacpan does its own indexing of releases uploaded to PAUSE
17:33 run4flat really?
17:33 dipsy no, not really
17:33 run4flat wow
17:33 run4flat cute
17:35 run4flat well, would the server admins mind if I pull dependency data for every module on the CPAN through the API?
17:36 clintongormley run4flat: as long as you're polite about it
17:36 clintongormley ie don't hammer the server
17:36 run4flat clintongormley: I guess that's what I'm not sure about. Should I insert a sleep, so do one per second? Is that polite?
17:37 clintongormley one per second would be fine
17:37 run4flat sweet. thanks!
17:37 clintongormley you could probably do a bit more than that
17:37 castaway joined #metacpan
17:37 run4flat that's alright, it can run over the weekend to build up our database
17:38 run4flat running one request every second will still only take 5 1/2 hours, so that should be fine
17:47 bricas d'oh.
17:48 bricas he's gone.

19:05 mst is there any chance of metacpan marking the "dependencies" list as "probably" or something?
19:06 p1d joined #metacpan
19:12 dpetrov joined #metacpan
19:20 doy i thought we already did that
19:20 doy there was discussion about it at least
19:20 doy might be an open issue
20:31 oalders there was some discussion for sure.  where would that disclaimer be posted?
20:33 doy i think the sane thing would be to check META.{yml, json} for dynamic_config: 0, and if it's not there, add some kind of disclaimer underneath... "note that this list may change at configuration time" or something
20:40 oalders doy: i think that makes sense.  we'd just have to wait until the META files are added to ES, i think
