04:22 thaljef One problem I've had with Pinto is the notion of a "distribution" e.g. libwww-perl.
04:23 thaljef Strictly speaking, a distribution is fictional.  There is no way to reliably order them or relate them to each other.
04:23 thaljef But MetaCPAN does attempt to organize things into distributions and releases.
04:24 thaljef Apparently, by using CPAN::DistnameInfo to group releases by name.
04:25 thaljef I know that distributions _do_ change names, and packages _do_ move from one distribution to another.
04:25 thaljef So grouping by dist name _can't_ work in all cases.
04:26 thaljef But it seems to work well enough.
04:26 thaljef Are my observations at all correct?

04:55 oalders thaljef: i think so. there's a good discussion of module vs distribution here: https://github.com/CPAN-API/cpan-api/issues/253

04:57 oalders note that xdg says that dists "are a fiction invented by search.cpan.org and mimicked by metacpan.org. Perpetuating that design mistake would be unfortunate"

06:17 trs dists are a useful grouping nevertheless. it's just a "project".
