14:00 Amrita i'n trying to get metacpan-web up and running but i get this error->ElasticSearch::Error::Connection at /usr/local/share/perl5/ElasticSearch/Transport/HTTPTiny.pm line 78
14:00 Amrita Could not connect to '127.0.0.1:9200': IO::Socket::INET: connect: Connection refused
14:00 Amrita *i'm
14:02 Amrita i tried installing elasticsearch and running bin/elasticsearch -f, but then i get an IndexMissingException so i'm guessing that's not the answer to the problem
14:03 Amrita i also added allow permissions for port 9200 in iptables

14:08 ranguard Amrita: do you want just the web bit, or the API bit as well?
14:09 ranguard e.g. you can do metacpan-web and use http://api.metacpan.org/ as the back end then you don't need ES at all
14:12 Amrita how do i use http://api.metacpan.org/ as the backend?
14:12 ranguard it _should_ be the default... https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/blob/master/README.pod
14:12 dipsy [ metacpan-web/README.pod at master · CPAN-API/metacpan-web · GitHub ]
14:13 ranguard set in  metacpan_web.conf (or metacpan_web_local.conf I believe)
14:14 * ranguard is --> <-- far from having a VM ready that's going to make this all a lot easier :)
14:17 Amrita the only conf files i can see are metacpan_server.conf, metacpan_server_local.conf and metacpan_server_testing.conf
14:18 ranguard you are cloning: https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web ?
14:18 dipsy [ CPAN-API/metacpan-web · GitHub ]
14:19 ranguard https://github.com/CPAN-API/cpan-api <- that's the BACKEND API server - I think you want the FRONT end web server which is https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web
14:19 dipsy [ CPAN-API/cpan-api · GitHub ] [ CPAN-API/metacpan-web · GitHub ]
14:20 Amrita okay i think i cloned https://github.com/CPAN/cpan-api. This was on friday actually, and github's been unavailable all day. aah, i'm so sorry if i'm not being too clear
14:20 ranguard np - that's probably why you are having so many problems :)
14:21 Amrita oh so i forked the wrong repo. thank you :) will have to wait till i can access git hub then

15:27 essraa Hi All :)
15:27 essraa I am trying to get started with metacpan
15:27 essraa I forked https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web
15:27 dipsy [ CPAN-API/metacpan-web · GitHub ]
15:27 essraa installed active perl, cpan
15:28 essraa tried installing plack
15:28 essraa but the command windows hangs at testing and building net-server 2.700
15:28 essraa what do you recommend I shall do
15:29 Amrita joined #metacpan
15:29 oalders essraa: what do you see when you try "cpanm -v Net::Server" ?
15:32 essraa it fetched net server
15:32 essraa unpacked it
15:32 essraa n now  it says that it's installing dependencies
15:37 essraa when building and testing net server 2.700
15:37 essraa it fails to do the specified number of tests
15:38 essraa it only does 35 out of the needed 51
15:38 essraa then it hangs
15:38 essraa oalders: hi :)
15:43 oalders essraa: hi :) can you paste the output somewhere so we can see it?

15:49 essraa t/Port_Configuration.t .... Failed 17/51 subtests
15:50 essraa that was proceeded by

15:52 essraa at the last line it hanged..nothing happens at that point
15:56 oalders essraa: thanks. if it's more than 1 line, you can use something like https://gist.github.com/ to post the info

16:37 oalders i don't know how many people have gotten up and running on windows
16:37 oalders Mithaldu: have you run metacpan-web on a windows machine lately?
16:42 Mithaldu oalders: nope, but i can give it a try

17:23 mst Mithaldu: why what?
17:24 Mithaldu mst: why replace Coro?
17:24 mst because it's 10% a very useful thing and 90% schmorp dickwaving
17:25 mst I would like a solid implementation of that 10%
17:25 Mithaldu fork it, remove the documentation, done :P
17:26 Mithaldu as far as i am concerned the docs are the worst part of it
17:28 mst my plan is to build a generator style API on top of it
17:28 mst write tests for that
17:29 mst then fork the bits of coro needed for that into the generator module
17:29 Mithaldu hm, that sounds like a good way to do it
17:30 Mithaldu what do you use Coro for?
17:31 mst I don't, yet, because I'm unwilling to depend on the rest of it
17:32 Mithaldu ah, that's the main thing for me really, i like it, but so far i've found exactly one use for it, where it was a stopgap solution too
17:33 mst right, and *that* is why I want to do this at some point

18:02 Mithaldu oalders: WWW::Curl and Gravatar::URL mess up
18:03 Mithaldu especially Gravatar URL has just bogus tests
18:03 Mithaldu Parallel::Scoreboard has dumb tests for a windows environment
18:05 oalders Mithaldu: thanks very much :)
18:05 Mithaldu no problem
18:05 Mithaldu let me know if you need any of those tested again on windows :)

22:25 mo on the brightside, the code that uses it is very pluggable and we could fallback to AE::HTTP for windows
