10:44 essraa Hi all :)
10:46 essraa I have a question regarding setting up metacpan-developer virtual machine for windows
10:46 essraa i am trying to download the .box from the given URL https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/86959817/mc_base001.box
10:46 essraa I tried it throught vagrant up and directly through the browser several times
10:47 essraa but it fails at after around 98% completition
10:47 essraa in the documentation it's said to be around 920MB
10:47 essraa while this link .box is around 877.5 MB
10:47 essraa so is there another link
10:49 ranguard essraa: bugger
10:49 ranguard essraa: give me a bit and I'll put it somewhere else
10:50 ranguard internet--
10:50 * ranguard tries to think where else to put it - S3 failed, umm
10:52 essraa @ranguard what do you mean by bit
10:52 essraa as a torrent?
10:53 bouncy joined #metacpan
11:00 ranguard http://sheepy.cuckoo.org:5555/mc_base001.box
11:00 ranguard heh, sorry, bit as in a few mins to get it somewhere else
11:00 ranguard essraa: let me know if that works for you or not
11:06 essraa will try it right away
11:06 ranguard essraa: I've updated metacpan-developer git repo
11:06 essraa thx a lot @ranguard
11:07 essraa u mean the vagrantfile that refers to where to get the .box
11:07 ranguard this is also a LOT faster :)
11:07 * ranguard nods
11:07 * ranguard is just testing as well...
11:08 essraa ok, yeah..that's true
11:08 essraa thx a lot @ranguard
11:08 essraa :)
11:08 ranguard so far so good (downloaded and extracted)
11:09 ilmari_ dipsy: thx?
11:09 dipsy ilmari_: Dunno.
11:09 essraa i have got 35 mins to go on my side
11:09 essraa thx = thanks :D
11:09 ilmari_ this is IRC, not AOL or SMS
11:09 * ranguard is on 100MG pipe so took 3 mins :)
11:09 ilmari_ also, it's not twitter, @ is not part of the nick
11:10 ranguard ok, and the box comes up - so I'll leave it like this for now (sheepy is in the UK which might also make a difference depending where you are) :)
11:10 essraa I am in Egypt
11:11 essraa is there a problem using abbreviations like thx on IRC, IRC itself is an abbreviation
11:13 ilmari_ the extra time it takes you to type the whole word is much less than the sum of the extra time everyone else has to spend deciphering it
11:14 ilmari_ using pointless abbreviations is saying "my time is much more valuable than all of yours"
11:14 ranguard essraa: yell if you get any problems
11:14 essraa ok ranguard :)
11:16 essraa it is a well know abbreviation ilmari_ definitely no bad intentions were involved in writing it
11:48 essraa ranguard finally fully downloaded, will proceed with the next steps
11:50 ranguard essraa: sweet :)
12:05 essraa thanks ranguard :)
12:17 ranguard essraa: working?
12:18 ranguard essraa: what OS are you on ?
12:20 essraa windows 7
12:20 essraa extraction has been done successfully
12:20 essraa however there's an error in booting the vm
12:21 essraa actually it booted successfuly as I see now
12:21 essraa but there's an error running the shell, the exited the whole thing
12:22 ranguard essraa: oh, can you gist paste the error message?
12:23 essraa https://gist.github.com/Essraa/f5a5f5069fb1f26d3f4d
12:23 dipsy [ Shell Running Issue ]
12:24 ranguard essraa: that looks like your VM is now running.. does 'vagrant ssh' connect you?
12:26 essraa I get that I don't have a ssh client installed
12:26 essraa I use smartgit to fork the repos
12:26 essraa I am downloading putty now
12:27 ranguard oh! - umm I guess vagrant needs an ssh client - cool
12:27 ranguard essraa: please could I ask you to write a 'win32' section at the end of the README.md
12:28 ranguard or at least keep notes of what you use/need (you are the first to test on Win32) so I can update it
12:29 bouncy joined #metacpan
12:30 essraa ok ranguard it's 64 bit
12:30 essraa will keep taking notes
12:30 ranguard ok, well, WinDoz :)
12:30 essraa :D
12:31 ranguard http://docs-v1.vagrantup.com/v1/docs/getting-started/ssh.html - I'll add a link to that in the README.md

19:54 kablamo ranguard: I solved my vm boot problem.  works now.  i had to enable VT-x/AMD-V in my laptop BIOS (its disabled by default).
19:54 ranguard kablamo: cool - we can add that to the HELP.md file tomorrow
19:55 kablamo the vm is 64 bit and you can only run 64 bit vm's if you a. have a cpu with hardware virtualization options and b. you enable them.
19:55 kablamo sounds like its almost always disabled by default
19:55 ranguard rwstauner: ^^ was there a reason for 64bit on the original Squeeze VM?
19:56 rwstauner ranguard: habit
19:56 rwstauner i'm sure it's not necessary
19:57 ranguard ok, when I rebuild I'll go 32 bit
19:58 rwstauner probably better for contributors
19:59 kablamo cool! i get the metacpan front page when i go to localhost:5001.  good stuff.
19:59 ranguard sweet

20:03 * ranguard uses the new test box for puppet testing for the first time and it's so nice to know I can just throw the VM away if needed :)
20:09 kablamo :) i will jump in there this weekend
20:12 ranguard http://vmbox.metacpan.org/ now running on our server
