05:04 oalders they don't get everything right, but there's some interesting stuff in there

07:30 ranguard heh - apparently I'm friends with a certain 'CPAN-API'

12:54 oalders Ranguard: you are.  there's an open issue to fix that :)
12:57 ranguard :)
13:05 Topic for #metacpan is now Have you installed your MetaCPAN VM? https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-developer | Chat logs available at http://irclog.perlgeek.de/metacpan/
13:26 oalders we're looking for comments on this issue https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/issues/176#issuecomment-19861442

14:28 rwstauner that osrc is a little weird
14:56 oalders yeah, it is, but it has some interesting data.  like, in your case, you comment on a lot of issues
14:57 oalders i know when i can't find an issue, you can always dig it up :)
14:57 oalders and in my case it shows that i don't do much after 3 AM
15:20 rwstauner yeah, i didn't really appreciate "who would rather be commenting on issues instead of pushing code"
15:21 rwstauner but i suppose the record probably does indicate that i do a lot to clean up issues
15:21 rwstauner some of the rest of the comments are just weird
15:21 rwstauner they may be accurate, but sound funny
15:22 rwstauner why is it that i'm an "awesome perl expert" (i don't feel like one), but xsawyerx is more of an aficionado?
15:23 rwstauner plus it feels weird to compare my activity to people i don't know
15:23 rwstauner the charts are pretty cool, though
15:25 oalders yeah, the commenting thing makes it sound like commenting isn't useful, when that's entirely not the case :)
15:32 rwstauner :-)
15:32 oalders SineSwiper: were you even able to start ES with the default VM settings?

17:42 SineSwiper oalders: I think it was startable, but trying to fill it with information was a no-go without some memory changes
17:43 SineSwiper of course, I was trying to dump everything, so YMMV

18:39 jayallen oalders: reading over the case, I just thought I'd chime in on one issue mentioned at https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/issues/176#issuecomment-1970095.  Namely, the fact that pretty much all links on the site default to showing the longer, author-and-release specific URL (/module/FLORA/Moose-2.0204/lib/Moose/Meta/Class.pm) over the shorter, canoncal link to the latest version (/module/Moose::Meta::Class ). This
18:39 jayallen drives me batty
18:39 dipsy [ The metacpan.org/module/* url space should not include scripts · Issue #176 · CPAN-API/metacpan-web · GitHub ]
18:41 jayallen I mean, it would make sense from an author's page or from one of the recent listings/feeds, but the search results should surely link to the canonical module, no?  …..and just as I say that I realize that what I am searching for might not be in the latest version, but only in a past release.  D0H
18:41 rwstauner jayallen: i think that's the point we've bounced back and forth on
18:41 * jayallen shakes fist at the air
18:44 jayallen rwstauner: Yeah. I'm just catching up.  I definitely agree with Tim when he says about the author/release specific URLs: "I'm really not keen on this. It seems like an abuse of the /module/ url namespace. I think /pod and /file could be used to access the pod and source of specific files."
18:44 oalders jayallen: it bugs me too, but for now there is the "latest version" link at the bottom left for when you want to share the URL
18:45 oalders i do think that the search results should just point to the convenience URL, but i think there were some cases in the search results where that was causing some problems
18:45 jayallen oalders: Yes, I found that link the other day (latest release).  Could be handier
18:46 oalders :)
18:46 jayallen e.g. also somewhere in the search results.
18:46 jayallen (latest)
18:48 oalders jayallen: right. it's buried as it is.  we need to improve that one way or the other
