02:34 oalders grantm: do you know what the status is on https://github.com/CPAN-API/cpan-api/pull/213 ?
02:34 dipsy [ Honour pod encoding by grantm · Pull Request #213 · CPAN-API/cpan-api · GitHub ]
02:35 grantm oalders: well I haven't had a chance to get back to it since I said "I'm now slightly nervous"
02:35 oalders grantm: i just wanted to make sure we weren't holding you back somehow :)
02:35 grantm no definitely not
02:35 oalders and wondered if you're still nervous
02:37 grantm the potential problem is that the old way did some dodgy encoding transforms in an eval, whereas my way uses a real POD parser
02:37 grantm so the old way might produce bad results but it would never die
02:37 grantm whereas bad POD could in theory cause my code to die
02:37 oalders right :)
02:38 grantm so I think I need to add an eval :-)  and then possibly replicate the old behaviour in the event of an exception
02:38 oalders sounds reasonable :)
02:38 oalders grantm: have you tried out the VM yet?
02:39 grantm is that a VMware image?
02:39 oalders VirtualBox
02:40 grantm no I try to stay away from that stuff
02:40 grantm I have a development instance of the metacpan codebase in an LXC container - much more lightweight
02:40 oalders ok. there's some talk of using packer.io to make some other images, but this is what we have rich tnow
02:40 oalders *right now
02:41 oalders haven't used LXC
02:41 grantm it's fairly raw
02:41 grantm but at least it's not Oracle tech
02:41 oalders :)
02:43 grantm so anyway, my plan was to create some test pod that did crash the parser and then fix my code to deal with it
02:43 grantm step 1 proved harder than I'd thought :-)
02:46 oalders sounds good :)

15:44 dsteinbrunner Is there a better way to find cpan pod with errors than this: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site%3Ametacpan.org+%22The+following+errors+were+encountered+while+parsing+the+POD%3A%22
15:44 dipsy [ site:metacpan.org "The following errors were encountered while parsing the POD:" at DuckDuckGo ]
15:44 dsteinbrunner ;-P
15:48 dsteinbrunner I'm not seeing anything in the api related to pod errors
16:01 oalders dsteinbrunner: the error message is produced when the Pod is rendered, so you can't search the API for errors
16:01 oalders because the rendered Pod is not actually stored in the API
16:01 oalders but https://api.metacpan.org/pod/Devel::Cover::Report::Coveralls?show_errors=1
16:12 dsteinbrunner understood

22:17 dsteinbrunner just came across this…
22:18 dsteinbrunner links to proper bug tracker and repo: http://search.cpan.org/~xaicron/App-pmuninstall-0.30/
22:18 dipsy [ Yuji Shimada / App-pmuninstall-0.30 - search.cpan.org ]
22:18 dsteinbrunner Does not: https://metacpan.org/release/XAICRON/App-pmuninstall-0.06
22:18 dipsy [ App-pmuninstall-0.06 - Uninstall modules. - metacpan.org ]
22:19 dsteinbrunner the data is in a meta.json file
22:19 dsteinbrunner does metacpan not work with meta.json?
22:21 trs dsteinbrunner: you're looking at two completely different versions of that release.
22:21 dsteinbrunner mmm
22:21 trs metacpan looks at META files
22:21 trs https://metacpan.org/release/App-pmuninstall
22:21 dipsy [ App-pmuninstall-0.30 - Uninstall modules - metacpan.org ]
22:21 dsteinbrunner grr
22:21 trs you can click the "goto latest" link on the old version page
22:22 dsteinbrunner so… I have kind of noticed this in th epast
22:23 dsteinbrunner search.cpan.org makes it very clear when you are not on the latest stable
22:23 dsteinbrunner not so much on metacpan
22:24 trs http://search.cpan.org/~xaicron/App-pmuninstall-0.06/lib/App/pmuninstall.pm vs. https://metacpan.org/module/XAICRON/App-pmuninstall-0.06/lib/App/pmuninstall.pm
22:24 dipsy [ App::pmuninstall - search.cpan.org ] [ App::pmuninstall - Uninstall modules - metacpan.org ]
22:25 haarg it would be good for that to be more visually apparent.  i thought there was an issue filed about that.
22:25 trs the "go to latest" link could be not slammed right off to the side, but otherwise it's fairly equivalent messaging.
22:26 BinGOs needs more geocities style flashing graphics.
22:27 dsteinbrunner I have never noticed that link
