02:55 thaljef It seems that I can only have an account on MetaCPAN if I have a PAUSE id.  Is that correct?
03:28 preflex_ joined #metacpan
03:32 thaljef When I "connect" my account to Facebook or Twitter, then it says I have to confirm my PAUSE account to edit my profile.
03:33 thaljef I was just trying to see how the whole login process works for a non-CPAN author.

04:00 oalders thaljef: as of right now, you need to have a PAUSE id in order to have a profile page
04:00 oalders but the plan is to add pages for non-authors as well
04:00 oalders just don't have a timeline on that
04:06 thaljef oalders: So can non-authors +1 things?
04:06 oalders thaljef: yes
04:07 thaljef Great.
04:08 thaljef Can you tell me how many registered users there are?  Just curious.
04:08 oalders all users?
04:08 dipsy all users are whiney
04:08 oalders ugh
04:10 oalders thaljef: http://api.metacpan.org/v0/author/_search?q=updated:*&sort=updated:desc
04:10 oalders that will give you the number of PAUSE authors, at least
04:11 oalders "total" : 676 who have edited their profiles
04:14 thaljef oalders: I was hoping for all users, not just PAUSE authors.  Or just a general sense of how many eyeballs you have each month.
04:15 thaljef *assumes each person has 2 eyeballs*
04:18 oalders thaljef: in the last month https://www.evernote.com/shard/s133/sh/56f683e2-38ca-4a6f-89d0-06ced75085df/ec60b85ccf78d3a99cc9e09a67c2829f
04:18 dipsy [ Audience Overview - Google Analytics ]
04:19 oalders as far as registered users vs PAUSE, if you open an issue on metacpan-web i can see about adding a page with all that info
04:19 oalders the user type isn't searchable via the api
04:31 thaljef Thanks.  I assume that data is for the last 30 days.
04:32 thaljef I had a thought:  I'm not sure this is possible, but what if I embedded the google analytics script in my POD (with my ID).  So I could track visits to my dists.
04:35 thaljef So that looks like about 2 visits per user per month.  I thought it would higher.  Apparently I spend too much time on your site :)
04:35 thaljef Thanks for sharing this data.
04:38 oalders thaljef: at this point, any JS will get stripped out of your Pod
04:39 thaljef Ah.  Security?  Smart.
04:40 oalders it was inspired by what happens here: http://search.cpan.org/~tokuhirom/Acme-XSS-0.01/lib/Acme/XSS.pm
04:40 dipsy [ Acme::XSS - search.cpan.org ]
04:40 oalders and has apparently never been fixed on s.c.o
04:41 thaljef I see.  Remarkably easy.
04:42 thaljef Anyway, that's something that MetaCPAN could support.  Suppose I put a GA id in my META, then you could squirt the code in for me.  Not sure how it would interact with your existing GA stuff.
04:43 thaljef I'll open a ticket for that.  Maybe I'll even write code for it.
04:45 oalders i'm open to that.  sounds like a helpful feature

17:44 dsteinbrunner When I go to https://metacpan.org/module/Catalyst::Plugin::StackTrace I get version .11 which is not the latest

22:27 haarg dsteinbrunner: 0.11 is the indexed version, so the problem isn't in metacpan
22:44 dsteinbrunner haarg: cpan pulls up 0.12 - http://search.cpan.org/search?query=Catalyst%3A%3APlugin%3A%3AStackTrace&mode=all
22:45 dipsy urgh. long url. Try http://tinyurl.com/k5pla5z
22:45 dipsy [ The CPAN Search Site - search.cpan.org ]
22:45 haarg search.cpan.org != cpan
22:46 haarg 02packages has 0.11
22:46 dsteinbrunner as if this is a problem where should it be reported?
22:46 dsteinbrunner so if, rather
22:48 haarg poke t0m to reindex possibly
22:49 haarg and then poke someone to reindex on metacpan as well
22:50 t0m Dsteinbrunner: I just committed it, too lazy to ship a new version for tiny spelling fixes, sorry
22:52 dsteinbrunner t0m: this is not about the typos
22:52 dsteinbrunner if I use cpanm for instance it downloads 0.11 but 0.12 is the latest
22:53 t0m Oh, fail. Just other non-indexed version - sorry, my bad
22:53 dsteinbrunner and pulling it up on metacpan.org does the same thing
22:53 t0m On phone so didn't read enough backlog
22:53 t0m Ack, will re-index in a sec :-)
22:55 t0m Done
22:58 t0m dsteimbrunner: btw, if you want a commit bit so you can fix these things straight in svn/git - just nopaste htpasswd/ssh key ;)
23:17 t0m Re-indexed ok
23:34 haarg t0m: want a git conversion of that?
23:35 t0m Yes :-)
23:36 t0m Well volunteered :-) you have a meta bit already to add tepos :-)

23:40 dsteinbrunner t0m: thanks for the offer and I might get back to you on that
23:41 t0m Please do :)
23:43 t0m I mean, I love the patches! But I prefer us both to have an easier workflow ;)
