01:15 talexb Wow, I'm gobsmacked. I had no idea that Travis automatically tried to build my new code.
01:15 talexb I'm not sure why XML::Simple is missing -- isn't that part of the basic environment?
01:34 omega talexb: add it to cpanfile as a requirement
01:39 * grantm mildly concerned about people using XML::Simple

01:40 talexb omega, OK -- although I haven't had luck re-submitting a pull request. :( Github doesn't seem to like that.
01:41 omega talexb: nah, if the old one is merged, you need to submit a new one I think
01:41 omega if the old one isn't merged, you can push more changes to the same branch in your clone
01:41 omega (it says at the bottom of the pull request where you can push more changes)
01:43 talexb Oh, OK, thanks.
01:43 * talexb is endlessly impressed with github.
01:50 omega :)
01:56 * talexb is glued to the screen on travis-ci.org that is running his test (among others).
01:59 talexb Hmph. Now it needs ElasticSearch.
02:00 * talexb wonders if he actually ran the entire test suite locally before.
02:00 talexb Only a die-hard is still noodling away on code at 10pm.
02:11 omega talexb: yeah, you use that module from your sitemap class
02:12 omega so it is also a new dependency, since it isn't listed in cpanfile already
02:13 omega talexb: here -> https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/pull/924/files#L2R11
02:13 dipsy [ Generate sitemap for metacpan.org website by talexb · Pull Request #924 · CPAN-API/metacpan-web · GitHub ]
02:15 talexb omega, Thanks -- now it needs ElasticSearch .. I'm going to run the metacpan-web tests locally to see what result I get before I change anything else.
02:15 talexb I'm knew to this development process .. hence, mistakes. I hate that.
02:15 omega you won't see theese failures locally though, since you probably already have all the stuff you used in your code :)
02:16 omega this is one of the great things of things like travis, they build in a (relativelly) clean environment
02:16 talexb I'm not sure .. I tried not to install anything.
02:16 omega so it will catch things like missing dependencies
02:16 talexb Right, I get that.
02:16 talexb Better on Travis than in some installation, though. :)
02:16 omega well, since you wrote (I assume?) the code that uses ElasticSearch and XML::Simple, chances are you have those modules installed? :P
02:17 talexb I don't think I did install it.
02:17 talexb I tried to make do with what was already installed.
02:18 talexb And the metcpan-web tests just finished successfully.
02:18 talexb Oh well, I'll add ElasticSearch and try again. Thanks for your assistance! :) Much appreciated.
02:22 ether I just sent a PR with the entire PR text mistakenly included in the commit message - assuming this is merged, it may make sense to --amend that out
02:23 ether actually - I can do that myself and force-push -- & 5 min
02:25 talexb ether, You may not even need to force ..
02:25 talexb .. that's usually only required if you do an intertactive rebase.
02:25 omega --amend is the same as a one commit rebase
02:25 omega well, not the same
02:26 omega but the effect is the same, you get a new commit (new sha id)
02:26 talexb Yep. gommit --amend is oh so handy. :)
02:26 talexb Er, commit.
02:35 talexb \o/
02:35 * talexb does a happy dance. Happy happy happy happy!
03:04 ether oh?
03:08 talexb Yeah, sorry, context.
03:08 talexb The Travis run after my last change .. just worked.
03:09 talexb The sitemap stuff is not complete yet .. I think ranguard has to do some stuff .. but I'm passing along stuff that tests correctly.
03:09 talexb And now .. to bed.

04:44 omega I have a questino about the profiles stuff.. I select "log in", and can select 4 things. I select github, log in, get asked to connect to pause, and I do
04:44 omega now my profile data is all there
04:45 omega but under identities, only pause is "connected", github is "disconnected"?
04:45 omega and if I "connect" github, I end up back at "please connect to pause"
04:45 omega but I can't login using pause?
04:51 oalders omega: i think what happens there is you actually have two metacpan accounts
04:51 oalders there's something buggy in there for sure, but nobody has ever been able to pin it down
04:52 omega ahh
04:52 omega lucky me
04:52 oalders mauke was having a related issue with logins on the weekend
04:52 omega solved my time issues by cloning
04:53 oalders you could try disconnecting github and logging back in to the account that has pause connected
04:53 omega I was signed out again, but signing in with github now
04:53 omega now that one is not connected to anything
04:54 omega if I sign out and then sign in with github again, I end up in the "same one"
04:59 oalders https://api.metacpan.org/user can give you some clues
05:00 oalders the identity key in particular
05:12 omega "looks_human": false, # awww :/
05:13 ether w00t, thank you!!!!
05:13 ether and it works!
05:15 omega oalders: after I connect to PAUSE, https://api.metacpan.org/user is an empty json object?
05:15 omega ohh no
05:15 omega https
05:15 omega :P
05:15 oalders :)
05:16 oalders i believe if looks_human is false you'll have to deal with a CAPTCHA with ++
05:16 omega the id are different, the identity contains github before and pause after
05:17 omega the pause one has looks_human as true
05:18 omega are the id safe to sare? only access_token shouldn't be shared?
05:35 oalders right. it's just the tokens that are private

16:15 talexb oalders, Will do. Thanks!
16:46 ether there's a looks_human flag? I'm doomed!

19:12 talexb oalders, Much better .. complete run now takes 41 seconds, and line couts for authors, modules and releases are 11K, 33K and 27K.
19:13 oalders talexb: nice! what were the line counts before?
19:14 talexb Releases were like 210K.
19:14 oalders :)
19:14 talexb The other two files weren't affected.
19:14 talexb So, vast improvement.
19:14 talexb Just going to compose a commit message, then I'll keep an eye on Travis to make sure things go well.
19:14 oalders cool!
19:15 oalders have you tried something like "use PerlIO::gzip; open( my $gzip_fh, '>:gzip', "$final_file.gz" )"

19:18 talexb I was going to use that, but wasn't sure if I should.
19:18 oalders seems easy enough?
19:19 talexb Oh yeah.
19:19 talexb I'll wait till Travis is happy with my latest, then I'll add that.

20:42 talexb oalders, OK, done, and passed by Travis (after I added PerlIO::gzip to cpanfile).
20:43 talexb Execution time is about the same, file sizes are 5-10 times smaller.
20:43 oalders excellent :)
20:47 talexb Yep. Not hard -- just wasn't sure if I should be doing that or leaving it for someone else.
20:47 ranguard talexb: I have a complaint
20:48 talexb :(
20:48 talexb Shoot.
20:48 ranguard your doing such a good job of cleaning stuff up I keep getting all these emails about closed tickets :)
20:48 talexb LOL

20:48 ranguard :)
20:48 oalders omega has been doing a lot of cleanup as well :)

20:55 talexb OK -- taking a break. I think I may have a beer on the deck.
20:55 rwstauner just let people close some more and then there will be less to go through
