16:43 b_jonas hello.
16:44 b_jonas why does https://metacpan.org/pod/perlfunc not link to https://metacpan.org/pod/release/RJBS/perl-5.18.1/pod/perlfunc.pod ?
16:44 dipsy [ perlfunc - Perl builtin functions - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ] [ perlfunc - Perl builtin functions - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ]
16:45 b_jonas does p5p have to change some meta-information about the perl dist, like register the "perlfunc" module to it, to make that perlfunc.pod the official best perlfunc?

16:54 rwstauner b_jonas: i expect it's currently because the other dist is newer (by two days)
16:55 rwstauner since neither is a registered module, you will eventually get a disambiguation page that links to both, but this hasn't been implemented yet
16:56 b_jonas rwstauner: so can a pumpking in theory register this as a module? or is that not possible for pod-only files with no modules?
16:57 rwstauner by "registered" i meant "listed in 02packages"
16:57 rwstauner the one in core is just pod
16:57 rwstauner and the other one is just a bin/ script
16:58 oalders https://metacpan.org/about/missing_modules
16:58 dipsy [ MetaCPAN About - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ]
16:58 b_jonas I sort of wish the perl core just got special unfair handling.
16:58 rwstauner it's on the TODO list to offer people a page that shows all the options for when something is ambiguous
16:59 b_jonas I don't want a disambig page. if I wanted that, I'd go to https://metacpan.org/search?q=perlfunc instead
16:59 dipsy [ Search for "perlfunc" - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ]
16:59 oalders why not add a package declaration to the source like https://metacpan.org/pod/Catalyst::Manual ?
16:59 dipsy [ Catalyst::Manual - The Catalyst developer's manual - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ]
17:00 rwstauner this link works: https://metacpan.org/pod/distribution/perl/pod/perlfunc.pod

17:01 b_jonas oalders: we could perhaps do that, though only in a separate .pm file because I don't think it would be wise to rename the .pod
17:01 b_jonas but the .pod can already be in a separate file for modules I think

17:08 b_jonas ouch: https://metacpan.org/pod/release/RJBS/perl-5.18.1/ext/Pod-Html/t/cache.pod
17:08 dipsy [ the - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ]
17:09 b_jonas plus maybe https://metacpan.org/pod/release/RJBS/perl-5.18.1/ext/Pod-Html/t/htmlview.pod and https://metacpan.org/pod/release/RJBS/perl-5.18.1/ext/Pod-Html/t/poderr.pod and https://metacpan.org/pod/release/RJBS/perl-5.18.1/ext/Pod-Html/t/podnoerr.pod shouldn't show up in the list either
17:09 dipsy [ Test - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ] [ Test - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ] [ Test - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ]
17:10 b_jonas pity the list https://metacpan.org/release/perl doesn't show their pathname, but only their =head1 title, so it's not obvious that they come from t/
17:10 dipsy [ perl-5.18.1 - The Perl 5 language interpreter - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ]
17:11 rwstauner oh, they're under ext/... we should add that to no_index for perl
17:11 rwstauner oh rats
17:12 rwstauner i guess it would need to be ext/*/t or something
17:12 rwstauner :-P
17:12 rwstauner see perl explicitly lists a bunch of dist/* in META: https://metacpan.org/source/RJBS/perl-5.18.1/META.json
17:12 dipsy [ META.json - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ]
17:12 rwstauner any chance the ext/*t could get into that list?
17:13 rwstauner also, i believe it's an outstanding issue that metacpan doesn't build the perl dist, so some docs don't get generated
17:25 kentnl my apologies if https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/issues/984  proves to be a duplicate, I gave github a good searching and nothing relevant turned up
17:25 dipsy [ Yet to be indexed (ie: developer releases) impossible to search for · Issue #984 · CPAN-API/metacpan-web · GitHub ]
17:27 * ether wakes up... are .pod files treated differently depending on whether they contain 'package' declarations or not?
17:49 * ilmari_ thought pod files were indexed based on =head1 NAME
17:52 haarg .pm files are too iirc (it will override package declarations)
18:07 [Sno] joined #metacpan
18:08 oalders the issue is that if you want the same pod to appear predictably at /pod/foo, then foo needs to be in 02packages
18:09 oalders if you have more than one release with foo in it and neither is in 02packages, then the last one in will get priority
18:09 oalders so you just have to claim your namespace
18:09 oalders kentnl: thanks for that. i think it has come up a few times, but probably not as thoroughly as you've laid it out
18:09 oalders it's a problem for sure
