11:53 Mithaldu can i use metacpan to find .pm files on cpan that are > 1 MByte?
11:54 ranguard Mithaldu: probably http://explorer.metacpan.org/ has a 'The size of the CPAN unpacked' example
11:54 dipsy [ MetaCPANExplorer ]
11:56 ranguard Mithaldu: https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-examples/ might also have some pointers - not sure
11:56 dipsy [ CPAN-API/metacpan-examples · GitHub ]
11:57 Mithaldu ranguard: hrm, that points me towards there being some solution, but it's so impenetrable
11:57 Mithaldu is there a reference documentation?
11:58 Mithaldu i guess i want a list of all modules sorted by size
11:59 ranguard Mithaldu: https://github.com/CPAN-API/cpan-api/wiki/API-docs <- Available fields bit is a good start
11:59 dipsy [ API docs · CPAN-API/cpan-api Wiki · GitHub ]
11:59 ranguard I'm afraid I've not actually used the API, I just do the sysadmin bits
12:10 Mithaldu great, can't actually run any of the examples, because the Elasticsearch bullshit is entirely and thoroughly fucked up
12:11 Mithaldu fuck people who piss about with cases in module names
12:12 ranguard Mithaldu: yea - we need to switch the examples over to Es::Compat, or even just Es
12:12 Mithaldu doesn't help
12:13 Mithaldu it wants transport curl
12:13 ranguard it was a mistake on the authors part, he didn't realise it was an issue
12:14 * ranguard doesn't know anytning about the transport curl
12:14 Mithaldu wooooow
12:14 Mithaldu and the required dep WWW::Curl::Easy won't even install
12:15 Mithaldu Sorry, no automated install is available on Windows,
12:15 Mithaldu please see the README.Win32 file on instructions for a manual install.
12:15 ranguard oh, Windoz - doh
12:15 Mithaldu ranguard: ......
12:15 Mithaldu PLEASE IMAGINE THE KIND OF WORDS I'M THINKING BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO TYPE THEM
12:17 ranguard Mithaldu: sorry, didn't meant to say that it shoudln't work
12:17 ranguard just 'doh' you have to do something on windows
12:17 ranguard I imagin that's a world of pain for many things
12:18 Mithaldu i'm more :| because of the *~funny~* misspelling
12:18 Mithaldu anyhow, looks like i just need to tell it where my curl libs are
12:18 Mithaldu although i guess i can just switch the transport too
12:19 ranguard good luck
12:20 Mithaldu hrm, Elasticsearch::Compat won't install etiher
12:21 Mithaldu https://metacpan.org/source/DRTECH/ElasticSearch-SearchBuilder-0.18/doc
12:21 dipsy [ Browse DRTECH/ElasticSearch-SearchBuilder-0.18/doc - metacpan.org - Perl programming language ]
12:21 Mithaldu wat
12:21 ranguard go kick clinton on github issues - he's usually fairly responseive
12:21 Mithaldu there's :: in a filename ;_;
12:22 ranguard :(
12:22 Mithaldu probably not even his fault
12:22 Mithaldu it looks like it's generated by something
12:23 Mithaldu also, i'd really love to stay out of yak-shaving
12:23 Mithaldu i want to fix PPI
12:23 Mithaldu and clinton already has an issue for searchbuilder :/
12:29 leont Mithaldu: toolchain has to work around that issue too (on Unix manpages are named after packages, on Windows, VMS and OS2 that doesn't work)
12:29 Mithaldu leont: the funny part is that that file doesn't even look like it should be in a cpan dist
12:29 Mithaldu and i can't get dz to even try to generate it
12:29 Mithaldu so i've no idea where it came from
12:30 Mithaldu maybe it was just a test to see how it renders
12:32 Mithaldu hrm, even with compat i get "Can't locate object method "scrolled_search" via package "Elasticsearch::Client::Direct""
12:32 Mithaldu ah, needed to update the package i'm constructing from too, i guess
12:38 Mithaldu welp
12:38 Mithaldu [trace] # ERROR: Elasticsearch::Error::NoNodes No nodes are available: [http://api.metacpan.org:80]
12:49 Mithaldu why does Elasticsearch not contain the transports that ElasticSearch contained?
12:55 ranguard my understanding is Es is 'official' and has to match all other Es clients (e.g the ruby/python etc ones) - don't know if that's a reason or not, but I know it's why they only put a work-a-round rather than a fix for an issue I found
12:56 Mithaldu well, right not seems like it's not usable at all
12:56 Mithaldu i'll try and see if i can install ElasticSearch manually
13:33 Mithaldu should this url work? http://api.metacpan.org/v0/author/XSAWYERX
13:34 Mithaldu asking since it doesn't load for me at all, just keeps waiting for the server to respond
13:39 klapperl joined #metacpan
14:07 rwstauner that author api link works fine for me
14:20 Mithaldu haha, wow
14:21 Mithaldu so i guess half the issue is my office proxy
14:21 Mithaldu thanks rwstauner :)
14:21 rwstauner i've got a query for you

14:22 Mithaldu rwstauner: you mean something like this? http://goo.gl/u215wA
14:22 dipsy [ MetaCPANExplorer ]
14:22 Mithaldu only thing i'm missing there is a way to filter it down to files that end on .pm
14:22 rwstauner similar :-)
14:24 rwstauner http://bit.ly/1fq67Vx
14:24 rwstauner that limits the search to indexed modules whose file size is > 1M
14:25 rwstauner oh, i didn't sort it though
14:26 rwstauner wow, only 562 results

23:10 ribasushi api.metacpan.org has an AAAA record
23:10 ribasushi yet port 80 on 2001:41c8:10:1044:5054:ff:fe77:1b9d is filtered (not even closed)
23:11 mst paula? is that you?
23:14 Mithaldu ribasushi: wait, are you saying the office proxy can't get at it because it's trying to use ipv6?
23:15 ribasushi office... what?
23:15 Mithaldu i tried to get at api.metacpan.org from work today
23:15 ribasushi ah, dunno could be
23:15 Mithaldu and any requests to it just timed out after a few minutes
23:15 ribasushi https://travis-ci.org/dbsrgits/dbix-class/jobs/15424457
23:15 dipsy [ Travis CI - Free Hosted Continuous Integration Platform for the Open Source Community ]
23:16 ribasushi is why I found out - if I get stuff with cpanm --dev tears ensue
23:16 Mithaldu haha, oh wow
23:16 Mithaldu that's brilliant
23:16 ether Mithaldu: I think you mean brillant
23:16 ribasushi (it works, just so slowly that it blows up past the CI timeout)
23:17 Mithaldu ether: i don't get the joke :)
23:17 ether google for 'Paula brillant'
23:17 Mithaldu ribasushi: basically the entire metacpan toolchain gave me grief this afternoon for entirely pointless reasons
23:18 Mithaldu at the end i found that from the office i couldn't get to api. anyhow and thought our proxy there was at fault
23:18 Mithaldu to find out that it's actually because the server is misconfigured is amazing
23:18 Mithaldu ether: oooooh
23:18 alnewkirk speaking of cpanm, ... lately I've been reasoning about the absolute fastest way to install dependencies
23:18 Mithaldu alnewkirk: assembler
23:18 Mithaldu nothing's faster than assembler
23:19 Mithaldu except maybe OpenCL
23:19 alnewkirk haha
23:19 alnewkirk I'm currently using puppet for configuration management and my modest perl deps take about 15 minutes to install

23:20 alnewkirk that's exactly how I was thinking about solving this problem

23:20 ribasushi what it looks like
23:20 ribasushi (you may need to click on 30 to get to line 96)
23:20 alnewkirk parallel-notest, then test after installed
23:21 ribasushi well no, I don't do the 2nd part
23:21 alnewkirk ... admittedly, I intended to auto-tune parallel processing based on cpu and memory

23:22 alnewkirk :)
23:23 alnewkirk damn ... ribasushi++++ while 1;
23:23 Mithaldu that's a syntax error
