10:27 BooK I'm doing a search on Git on metacpan, and Git::Repository does not appear in the list (although plugin distribution do appear)
10:27 BooK did I do something wrong in my distro ?
10:30 BooK mmm, in fact Test::Git (part of Git-Repository) does show up on the first page of a "Git" search
10:32 BooK autocomplete on Git:: does not show it, though
10:42 dpetrov_ https://metacpan.org/search/autocomplete?q=Git::
10:42 dpetrov_ I wonder why Test::Git is shown as documentation
11:08 fernando joined #metacpan
15:05 rwstauner Test::Git is probably preferred because it's the shortest module name in the dist
15:07 rwstauner the "documentation" key in that json output means that this "item" has "documentation" for the module "Test::Git" (based on the =head1 NAME)

20:47 oalders trs++ # fixing SSL certs
20:48 BinGOs Ah, certificate changes. that would explain unavailability
20:48 oalders was just a few minutes, but enough for people to start complaining :)
20:49 BinGOs do you have monitoring?
20:49 oalders yeah, but twitter is a pretty good standby monitor
20:49 BinGOs nagios?
20:49 dipsy nagios is quite funky or the new name for Netsaint, a network service monitoring tool
20:50 oalders we do have nagios, but i didn't actually get any alerts this time around
20:50 BinGOs I was getting at that you can use check_http to check SSL certificate validity.
20:51 oalders ah, did not know that. that would be helpful.  i think it's running on plu's machine somewhere
20:51 BinGOs it can alert when the cert is going to expire, etc.
20:52 BinGOs I have Nagios at $work alerting when various certs are going to expire.
20:52 ranguard trs++ # sorting out certs
20:52 BinGOs mainly the internal CA issued certs on the LDAPS services on our domain controllers.
20:53 BinGOs JaNET email us to inform us when our Comodo issued certs are going to expire.
20:54 trs what does janet care about your comodo certs? :)
20:54 BinGOs JaNET sell us the Comodo certs.
20:54 BinGOs Joint Academic Network
20:54 oalders that kind of monitoring would have helped here.  we got one warning 2 weeks before expiration from the cert provider
20:55 oalders which i almost immediately forgot about
20:55 BinGOs yeah, that is the problem.
20:55 jibsheet whoever we use for rt.cpan.org was actually proactive when they needed to reissue our cert.  Lots of emails.
20:56 BinGOs RapidSSL apparently.
20:58 jibsheet yeah, them.  That cert was donated, so I deal with it very rarely.
21:01 trs BinGOs: ahh, I didn't realize they sold you the certs.
21:02 trs nagios's check_http is nice, I've used it
21:02 trs there's also a certwatch utility floating about in RHEL
21:02 trs or just good old google calendar. :)
21:03 trs ok, www. is now back up with all the rest after a small hiccup there
21:03 ether there isn't any concept of 'main module' yet in distmeta, is there? if there were, metacpan could always put that module at the top
21:03 ether although presuming a module name that mirrors the dist name is usually safe (probably more so than the shortest module name in the dist)
21:03 ether e.g. the Moose dist has 'oose', which is definitely not primary :D
21:30 leont Why would there be a main_module concept in meta?
21:30 leont It's not a particularly useful concept
22:08 ether so metacpan knows what module to put at the top of the documentation list? :)
22:10 leont Assuming it's $dist_name =~ s/-/::/gr is simple enough
22:10 ether I can't think of any other uses for it offhand though
22:10 ether there's a lot of dists where that wouldn't work -- although I think there was a talk of making changes to PAUSE to force that (and grandfathering all the current outliers)
22:11 ether that probably needs a Lyon rubberstamp
22:12 leont Those dists can go DIAF
22:13 leont No really, those dists are making life more difficult for everyone
22:21 trs ether: you're thinking of option (c) in http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.cpan.workers/2013/03/msg1047.html

22:22 danaj joined #metacpan
22:29 ether hmm perhaps - I thought we were discussing it outside that context too
22:29 ether but regardless, let's put that on the Lyon agenda :)
22:38 trs is there a cpan workers event happening in Lyon?

22:44 leont The QA Hackathon
22:47 trs ah

23:23 rwstauner ether: i think there's an issue in the api repo about main_module
23:23 rwstauner i made it once b/c we had code somewhere doing s/-/::/g
23:26 ether we could at least abstract that logic out to the module (whose name escapes me right now) that parses out information about distributions
23:27 ether ah yes, CPAN::Distribution
23:27 * rwstauner must run &
23:28 ether ciao!
