04:18 oalders haarg++
04:18 oalders i just deployed that change
04:20 ribasushi rwstauner: sure, I just wasn't certain you guys are aware as oalders keeps working on the site ;)
04:21 rwstauner np
04:21 rwstauner i'm having much better luck with 443 than 80
04:22 ribasushi rwstauner: what sort of problem if not a secret?
04:22 rwstauner i don't really know
04:22 rwstauner seem to be having an issue at the nginx/networking layer as far as i can tell
04:23 ribasushi ugh
04:23 rwstauner but there's nothing helpful in the logs
04:23 rwstauner nginx, Y U NO tell me why you cry?
04:24 rwstauner but after pointing the web straight at the starman api server things seem much better
04:24 rwstauner and i haven't had any issues on :443
04:24 rwstauner but :80 works 25% of the time
04:24 rwstauner and times out the rest
04:24 ribasushi huh... I will try :443 then
04:46 ribasushi rwstauner: thanks for the tip, seems to work so far

10:43 mo is someone still experiencing connection issues with either metacpan service?
11:01 mo ranguard: cpan.metacpan.org is already using fastly right?
11:01 mo so ribasushi s issues might stem from there
11:06 ranguard mo: yes, using fastly, but with everything set to no cache
11:07 ranguard oh, or at least I thought it was - I'm seeing hits in fastly stream
11:09 ranguard oh, actually: https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-puppet/blob/c4cd09cf03e07fc0e12c0890c33d04706d735fad/modules/metacpan/files/www/cpan.conf -

12:25 mst mo: metacpan appears to have imploded
12:27 mst 504 Gateway timeout
12:29 mo back?
12:29 dipsy Mwah!
12:32 mst yep
12:33 mo rwstauner: the reason that api was set to metacpan.org instead of localhost:5000 was that nginx is better at handling connections when the backend is busy
12:33 mo when the frontend connects directly to the backend, we might occupy all worker processes and requests to api.metacpan.org might not get through in time
12:33 mo at least that was my reasoning, not sure if that makes even sense :)
12:34 mo plus we get access logging for free

15:11 dipsy [ The Popularity of Perl in 2013 ]
15:36 ranguard Wooo - ok, so we get 10% of the traffic SCO gets - we really need to be able to cope with the same level - for when we replace it ;)
15:42 oalders :) yeah, we get just a fraction of what sco gets
15:44 * ranguard thinks it's mostly SEO and that will change eventually (i'm nudging every couple of weeks for some changes that will help!)

16:04 rwstauner :-)

17:42 bowtie_ s/randguard/ranguard/ sorry
17:50 rwstauner doesn't oalders have one?  :-)
17:52 haarg i adblock google analytics, but not out of any real privacy concerns.   i just prefer less js to run, and it doesn't add value for users.
