13:41 Zoffix Is there any alternative mirror for http://vmbox.metacpan.org/mcwheezy_vm_base_001_32.box ? I keep getting timouts: http://paste.scsys.co.uk/301783
13:41 dipsy [ magnet_web paste from Someone at 217.168.150.38... ]
13:42 Zoffix Not sure even if that's what I need, actually. I'm hacking a module that uses some HTML in the pod and I want to see how it's rendered on MetaCPAN, without having to push a ton of dists on PAUSE.
14:15 Zoffix Hm. I think I have enough to go on by, just by looking at the Controller/Pod.pm and HTML::Restrict rules...

17:05 ether some kind of sandbox where one can upload some pod and see it rendered metacpan-style would be awesome
17:06 ether I had to iterate a few times with Acme::CPANAuthors::Nonhuman before I found the markup that worked (and patched metacpan-web a bit too..) :)
17:11 haarg that is a feature search.cpan.org has
17:12 ether haarg: heh that seals it, something has GOT to be done! we can't have s.c.o trumping us on anything
17:12 ether ACANH doesn't render on s.c.o but I've not had a huge amount of interest digging in to figure out why
17:13 mudler joined #metacpan
17:22 haarg s.c.o filters out images.  or at least, absolute images.
17:24 ranguard I think it's in the wishlist... just need someone to impliment it :)
17:26 ether iirc kentnl's dumpphases dist has a renderable image on s.c.o
17:26 * ether looked at some point to see the differences and didn't spot anything glaring - it's just =for html vs. =begin html and =end html
17:27 kentnl ether: it works more because I source externally, trying to source it relative to ./ just doesn't work yet.
17:32 kentnl though hmm, you might be on to something with =for vs =begin, its not the first time I've heard such a problem
17:33 ether kentnl: yeah I source out of raw.github.com just like you do
17:33 ether er no, that was a different dist :)
17:33 ether (Acme::Tiny)
17:33 kentnl dzil insterstinly will convert =begin to =for where possible too, which helps, just if you spice it wrong, the transformation doesn't occur.
17:33 ether no, I was right. ACANH gets its images from gravatar
17:33 kentnl don't source raw.github, they don't like that.
17:34 ether kentnl: dzil doesn't change pod. Pod::Weaver might, but not by default; you'd need to be using special plugins for that.
17:35 kentnl mostly because it incurs a git fetch penalty for each request, so they're actually going to *block* doing that in some places  ;) , but they do encourage you to use GH pages instead, which is much less load inducing
17:35 kentnl the Perl5 transformer ( standard in Pod::Weaver's stack ) degrades =begin sections to =for in some cases.
17:35 ether but yeah it does look like the pod in Acme::Tiny got badly munged - the =begin got turned into a =for, which now won't work as the html is on multiple lines.
17:38 ether hmm, no, =for html <html over multiple lines> is legal -- pod is paragraph-based
17:38 ether so it's just whatever pod-to-html converter s.c.o. is using that is interpreting that badly.
17:38 ether but since its source is closed, I cannot investigate or patch.
17:38 kentnl https://metacpan.org/source/RJBS/Pod-Elemental-0.103000/lib/Pod/Elemental/Element/Pod5/Region.pm
17:38 ether and now I've stopped caring again :D
17:38 dipsy [ lib/Pod/Elemental/Element/Pod5/Region.pm - metacpan.org ]
17:38 kentnl s.c.o is not entirely closed last I heard
17:39 ether orly
17:39 kentnl you just have to know where to look
17:39 * kentnl greps his log
17:44 kentnl dammit, might have false memory.  I blame cosmic particles
17:48 haarg ether: s.c.o seems to only allow one img per html block
17:49 haarg or something goofy like that
17:52 ether oh lame
17:53 haarg that's not actually it
17:53 haarg honestly the way it's acting makes almost no sense
18:02 haarg well i figured out some things
18:02 haarg wrapping the <img> tags in a <span> (inside the <a>) fixes half of it
18:03 haarg but if i do more than two lines of avatars it barfs and gives me a blank page
18:03 haarg fun
18:12 haarg ether: http://paste.scsys.co.uk/301866
18:12 dipsy [ magnet_web paste from "haarg" at 217.168.150.38... ]
18:12 haarg that seems to work on s.c.o
18:12 haarg the important bits seem to be the <span> and using entities for all non-ascii characters
18:39 ether huh interesting, <span> inside the <a> container
18:39 haarg yeah i don't know what the deal is with that
18:41 ether the transformation of non-ascii chars into entities really should be handled by the pod->html converter
18:41 ether no I'm a retard
18:41 * ether should be doing that
