11:34 ether oalders: not sure if you can do anything about this or not - but when I try to open https://metacpan.org/source/CHOROBA/XML-XSH2-2.1.17/lib/XML/XSH2/Parser.pm#L1, I eventually get an "unresponsive script.. kill it?" popup from firefox and I need to bail out, without ever being able to load the page

11:35 ether this file seems to be very large - is the script something to do with adding line numbers?
11:35 oalders ether: 1.26 MB it works in Chrome for me, but takes too long.  i can check what the max file size is for the syntax highlighter
11:36 oalders not sure if we bypass highlighting after a certain file size, but if we don't, we should

18:32 punter Q: Is it possible to search for new releases, since some date, rather than 'last n entries', in the API?
18:33 punter (I'm not very familiar with Elasticsearch)
18:34 rwstauner should be.  ES can do range filters
18:34 rwstauner something like range => { date => { gte => '2014-03-01' } }
18:37 rwstauner http://explorer.metacpan.org/?url=%2Frelease%2F_search&content={%0D%0A++%22query%22%3A+{+%22match_all%22%3A+{}+}%2C%0D%0A++%22size%22%3A+100%2C%0D%0A+++%22filter%22%3A+{%0D%0A+++++%22range%22%3A+{+%22date%22%3A+{+%22gte%22%3A+%222014-03-15%22+}+}%0D%0A+++}%0D%0A}
18:37 dipsy urgh. long url. Try http://tinyurl.com/m92wmar
18:37 dipsy [ MetaCPANExplorer ]
18:38 rwstauner with a range of "gte": "2014-03-15" i get 39, with 14 i get 95, and with 16 i get zero
18:38 rwstauner so that seems about right
18:38 rwstauner punter: ^^
18:40 punter thanks rwstauner
18:40 rwstauner np
18:44 punter In which order do the RSS feed of CPAN latest, and the API, get updated? Is it possible that the API doesn't get modified until several seconds after the RSS feed is updated with a new module?
18:45 punter I'll be careful either way (might change in the future)
18:45 punter when I say "the API gets modified", I mean "the data in the API get updated with the new release"
18:56 rwstauner which feed in particular are you asking about?
18:57 rwstauner the /feed controller of metacpan.org uses the api to populate so the api is obviously first
18:57 rwstauner but if you're talking about the Friend Feed or something else, they're probably based on their own mirror
19:01 punter I'm talking about this, rwstauner: https://metacpan.org/feed/recent
19:01 dipsy [ Recent CPAN uploads - MetaCPAN ]
19:01 rwstauner ok
19:02 rwstauner that uses the api to get its data
19:02 punter nice, thanks
19:02 rwstauner sure
19:04 punter Final question: What's the chance that if $now the API says that the latest release has a date of 05:00:00, that after a few seconds/minutes a new release appears in the API with a date just before 05:00:00?
19:05 punter Have you taken care of this chance so it never occurs?
19:05 punter not importat, I'll watch out for this chance
19:06 punter to make sure it doesn't affect me
19:13 rwstauner no, i can't say for sure what happens there
19:13 rwstauner i know the script that marks things as "latest" is a periodic background task
19:14 rwstauner but I assume the feed is only showing things that are marked as latest
19:14 rwstauner so probably, if you hit the feed twice inside of a few minutes, it probably hasn't changed
19:14 rwstauner and when the background job has run, then you'll get a new batch of records in the feed
19:14 rwstauner but sometimes releases don't index properly
19:14 rwstauner and we go in and fix it
19:15 rwstauner in which case the original upload time will have been older
19:15 rwstauner so in those cases it could happen that you didn't get one in the recent feed

20:36 punter rwstauner, how old can a release be, which just got fixed in this way?
20:36 punter never over a day?
20:40 punter This could be fixed, by adding a field in the 'releases' that shows when a release was added in the index
20:40 punter then I could search for "added >= 2014-03-13"
20:41 punter but if i'm the only one asking for this feature, then I guess not likely :-)

23:55 dipsy [ Restart rrr-client daily. · c23d294 · CPAN-API/metacpan-puppet · GitHub ]
23:55 oalders perhaps the reason why some releases don't index properly
23:58 punter so every night at 3:30am all the missed releases will be indexed?
23:58 punter oalders, ^^
23:58 punter "all", anyway
23:58 punter as far as we can tell
23:58 oalders punter: if the assumption is correct
23:58 punter kewl
23:59 oalders it's not something that happens a lot
23:59 oalders but sometimes a dist is not in the index and then it just appears after you run it manually
23:59 oalders no errors etc
23:59 oalders so that fits perfectly with this scenario
