14:18 ranguard ahh
14:23 dolmen is a "NEWS" file handled as source for a change log?
14:24 oalders omega would know that
14:24 dolmen I'm asking because the Term::ANSIColor recently changed from ChangeLog to NEWS in his repo...
14:24 dolmen s/Term::ANSIColor/Term::ANSIColor author/
14:26 dolmen http://git.eyrie.org/?p=perl/ansicolor.git;a=blob_plain;f=NEWS;hb=HEAD
14:26 rwstauner it is in at least some places
14:26 rwstauner pretty sure the /changes endpoints handle NEWS
14:26 rwstauner but not sure about the release page
14:26 oalders the API endpoint uses "CHANGES Changes ChangeLog Changelog CHANGELOG NEWS"
14:27 rwstauner oalders: i'm looking at that pullreq
14:27 oalders rwstauner++
14:27 dolmen thanks
14:28 rwstauner oalders: just curious, is there a reason for the query => { filtered => { ... } } ?
14:29 oalders rwstauner: i thought that's what clintongormley was advising
14:29 oalders but who knows?
14:29 rwstauner it may be, but i don't understand the "Why"... i don't know what that affords us over separate query/filter
14:30 rwstauner i would like to
14:30 rwstauner but i don't ;-)
14:30 rwstauner i was hoping you were going to tell me
14:30 oalders well, we're not scoring anything there, so maybe it should just e a separate query/filter
14:31 rwstauner hmm
14:31 rwstauner well now that you say that it sounds like that would make sense

14:32 dipsy [ Filtered Query ]
14:32 oalders maybe this is the same idea?
14:32 oalders since there's no scoring here either
14:33 rwstauner idk...only thing i can think is that if there's something else that the "query" gives you (like saving it in memory or something) that you don't get from the filter
14:34 rwstauner but that es doc example is imo worthless... doesn't explain the usefulness and it seems like a terrible example
14:34 oalders that's in line with their other docs then :)
14:34 rwstauner sadly, yes :-)
14:35 oalders i'm not caching anything explicitly there
14:35 rwstauner but you're right, it would make a difference if you're interested in the score
14:36 oalders i'm going to ask clinton
14:39 oalders rwstauner: you know, it's mostly a copy/paste from the method immediately above

14:39 rwstauner ok
14:40 oalders in fact, the other queries in that file all seem to do it
14:40 mo filters are cached automatically, imho
14:41 oalders i guess that's helpful for pagination?
14:41 mo ES will not cache the whole filter, but each boolean part individually and then merge them on-the-fly
14:42 mo so you can set a _cache for the boolean part, which will give you some extra speed at the expense of memory
14:42 mo which we are short on anyway :)
14:42 mo I would say the current implementation is fine, but let's have clinton have a look at it for good measure
14:42 oalders sounds good
14:44 rwstauner yeah, that all sounds like what i recall
14:45 oalders i've emailed clinton
14:45 oalders i think he's in amsterdam this week doing training
14:45 rwstauner oalders: Should the title really be "Latest releases"?
14:46 rwstauner the only thing latest is the sort order
14:46 oalders that's a bad title

15:04 oalders clinton says "Yeah, a filtered query is more efficient.  The filter is applied before the query. However, a top-level filter is applied after the query has run and (if you have facets) after the facets have been calculated."
15:04 oalders "Stick with the filtered query"
15:08 rwstauner oh
15:08 rwstauner ok
15:08 rwstauner that makes plenty of sense

17:57 oiami1 do we count the opensource project without  license information as FOSS ?
18:04 rwstauner hard to say
18:04 rwstauner many would argue that without a license no one is allowed to use it
18:05 rwstauner unlicensed certainly doesn't qualify as OSI compliant
18:05 rwstauner but i think all of our (relevant) repos have a license
18:05 oiami1 hmm , I agree that's hard
18:05 rwstauner are you referring to a repo in particular?
18:08 oiami1 yes , my freind repo hehe
18:09 rwstauner ok
18:09 rwstauner well, selecting a license can be difficult
