10:48 * kentnl has been doing queries lately to find "What are all my dists that depend on Foo" where Foo is (Module::Build, Path::Class, File::Slurp)

16:59 ether awww
17:02 haarg it still flags modules as unauthorized, just not entire releases
17:04 ether what dists is this happening to? if it it's just AnyEvent, wasn't that because of his weird declaration of common::sense or something similar?
17:07 rwstauner there are a few issues
17:07 rwstauner DB is one that will go away once everything is reindexed
17:08 rwstauner but there are some inconsistencies that i need to figure out
17:09 rwstauner like Types::Serialiser declares JSON::PP::Boolean (which is dumb), but i only figured that out by doing 'cpanm --look' so i need to figure out why that isn't apparent in the release data
17:09 rwstauner then at least you'd be able to tell why it has perm issues
17:09 rwstauner unlike now

17:41 ranguard we've just gone live with fastly CDN - hopefully you won't notice much other than things being a little faster (we've not caching much with them yet just using their routing)
17:41 jibsheet just the website, not the API, right?
17:42 ranguard yea
17:43 ranguard it'll be a long time before we look at the API again - maybe provide a cdnapi.mc.org or something
17:43 jibsheet *nod*
17:44 jibsheet when that happens, I'm happy to make rt.cpan.org's job try using it and figure out what we need to do to use it and take load off the metacpan servers
17:44 ranguard cheers

18:20 kentnl DNS doesnt' seem to be propagating yet for me
18:20 kentnl ranguard: https://gist.githubusercontent.com/kentfredric/aa6b1b207b52c63ccb11/raw/7bacd6ae7a1812765611ff02221a329fd4fd041d/gistfile1.txt
18:20 kentnl unless 23.235.37.143 is the *expected* IP
18:20 ranguard yes - it is
18:21 ranguard it's an Anycast IP address 46.43.35.68 is the old address
18:21 kentnl oh. I see. The entry I have in my hosts file was 103.245.222.143 , which is why I'm surprised its different
18:21 kentnl ( and thats the one thats' 7 hops away )
18:22 jibsheet 23.235.37.143 is 8 hops and <20ms for me, but I'm in the eastern US
18:23 kentnl though the longer-ping one still seems faster for some reason
18:23 * ranguard wonders if the 103.245.222.143 is a fastly NON-anycast IP
18:23 * ranguard doesn't really understand anycast stuff, so maybe that's a sideeffect
18:24 ranguard as long as the site feels fast :)
18:25 ribasushi on a tangent - how much does the fastly stuff cost if not a secret?
18:26 ribasushi in metacpan's case I mean
18:27 oalders ribasushi: $0
18:28 oalders https://metacpan.org/about/sponsors
18:28 dipsy [ Sponsors - metacpan.org ]
18:28 kentnl it was hard to tell which was faster so I did a test with curl, for me, the 103.x address took 12 seconds for 10 fetches of /recent , while the 23.x one took 20 seconds
18:28 oalders we actually don't pay for anything
18:28 ribasushi nice
18:28 oalders and we've got at least one new sponsor coming on board this week
18:29 rwstauner metacpan... the c is for "cheap"
18:29 rwstauner :-)

18:29 ranguard :D
18:30 ranguard fastly supports almost any open source project for free (of course we are special, but they are also fab)
18:30 kentnl yeah, it can't be considered comprehensive till somebody fixes the search to return things that aren't strictly indexed >:)
18:30 ranguard they do pypi etc now
18:31 ranguard kentnl: could you put that info and a traceroute on https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/issues/1194 please
18:31 dipsy [ Switch over to Fastly CDN to speed things up · Issue #1194 · CPAN-API/metacpan-web · GitHub ]
18:31 ranguard this might be a 'it's one of those things with anycast' but worth checking into
18:39 kentnl data added.
18:40 kentnl the 103 one is really impressive, because thats like a total of 2 hops outside my ISP... which ain't bad for living in the internet backwaters.
18:40 ribasushi (literally back-waters :)
