02:32 oalders haarg: any reason not to merge https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/pull/1287 ?
02:32 dipsy [ add irc links if included in metadata - not ready for merge by haarg · Pull Request #1287 · CPAN-API/metacpan-web · GitHub ]
02:33 oalders has been about 10 days without comments
02:33 haarg i'd prefer to get riba's comments, but he hasn't really been available recently
02:34 oalders ok. i just pinged him on the issue

14:06 ranguard ^^ just want to see if the tests will pass with this
14:16 oalders :)

14:27 * mst stares
14:27 mst ranguard: threads.pm appears to not be indexed in 5.20
14:30 ranguard mst: umm, you talking about why we expect 5.20 to fail? - I'm looking at having the tests create 'var/tmp' - not 5.20 :)
14:31 oalders ranguard: looks good, but you angered Perl::Critic
14:32 mst ranguard: no
14:33 mst ranguard: I'm talking about the fact that if I go to perl-5.20.0 on metacpan there's no threads.pm link
14:33 ranguard oalders: https://travis-ci.org/CPAN-API/cpan-api/builds/33493064 umm they all failed, oh, I ran the perl tidy! - back
14:33 dipsy [ Travis CI - Free Hosted Continuous Integration Platform for the Open Source Community ]
14:33 ranguard oalders: ^^ one for you (mst) :)
14:34 oalders mst: what's the context here?
14:34 mst https://metacpan.org/release/perl
14:34 dipsy [ perl-5.20.0 - The Perl 5 language interpreter - metacpan.org ]
14:34 mst ^F threads
14:34 mst no link to threads.pm
14:35 rwstauner mst: 02packages: threads                            1.92  J/JD/JDHEDDEN/threads-1.92.tar.gz
14:35 rwstauner i guess if perl has it's own it should stil be on the release page
14:35 rwstauner but it won't be "latest"
14:36 mst hence why I have in no way complained about it not being latest
14:36 rwstauner right
14:36 rwstauner i didn't figure that out until after i pasted
14:36 rwstauner b/c i don't know the contents of the perl release that well :-/
14:37 oalders yeah, not sure what's going on there. merits an issue then
14:37 * mst was trying to find the warning that was added to threads.pm
14:37 mst so I can update the perlbot factoid
14:38 mst to say "LOOK EVEN CORE SAYS DON'T USE IT"
14:38 oalders is it linked from the earlier perl releases?
14:38 rwstauner it's no_index'ed
14:39 mst huh
14:39 mst ok, so ... wtf
14:40 * rwstauner thinks "LOOK EVEN CORE SAYS DON'T INDEX IT"
14:40 mst so, metacpan isn't actually wrong here, and I need to go find out why that was done
14:40 mst sorry about that, it hadn't occurred to me that it'd be no_index'ed
14:40 rwstauner np
14:40 rwstauner ;-)
14:41 rwstauner i didn't expect to find an answer
14:41 mst I normally check the dist for stupid first
14:41 rwstauner so that was a pleasant surprise
14:41 oalders rwstauner++
14:41 mst I didn't expect core to be doing something bizarre
14:41 mst full marks for being suspicious of absolutely everything
14:41 mst rwstauner++
14:41 rwstauner :-)
14:42 rwstauner oddly META.json doesn't show in the "other files" section

14:42 rwstauner i wonder if that's a size limit
14:42 * ranguard appease Perl::Critic, man thats one critic critic :)
14:42 oalders soon you will learn to bend to its will
14:43 mst Perl::Critic is a wonderful tool
14:43 mst the default policies, however, are complete shit
14:43 mst though "don't use double quotes when they're pointless" isn't entirely unreasonable
14:47 ranguard :)

17:26 ether I use single quotes mostly, because I love shaving off nanoseconds :)
17:26 ether also: less having to escape special chars.
17:31 mst rwstauner: final resolution: it's no_index because it's dual life and the only actual problem is there hasn't been a cpan release since 5.20.0
17:31 mst rwstauner: and basically normally there always is, hence why I hadn't noticed until today :)
17:31 mst ranguard: ^^
