16:53 haarg for adding irc/mibbit links to metacpan, do we want to use a more specific nick or just let them be mibbit's default?
17:01 mst links where, for what purpose?
17:21 ranguard mst: https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/pull/1287
17:21 dipsy [ add irc links if included in metadata - not ready for merge by haarg · Pull Request #1287 · CPAN-API/metacpan-web · GitHub ]
17:22 haarg adding a link to the sidebar if there is an irc channel mentioned in the meta file
17:22 mst doesn't mibbit prompt you for a nick before connecting with certain types of link?
17:31 haarg yes, but people are likely to not change that
17:31 ilmari https://chat.mibbit.com/#dbix-class@irc.perl.org does that
17:32 haarg and you can provide a pattern to use for a default nick
17:32 dipsy [ Mibbit.com Webchat client ]
17:37 mst haarg: well, yes, but how does that matter?
17:37 haarg it matters very little
17:38 haarg it can be helpful to know how someone ended up on the channel
17:41 mst meh
17:57 ether FWIW - dual-life dists shouldn't be no_index. it shouldn't matter if they're blead-first or cpan-first; if they have a cpan release, they should be indexed and the version in core should not be
17:58 ether however both links (core and non-core) should show up in metacpan results, ideally
17:59 ilmari core no_indexes dual-life dists
17:59 ilmari to avoid stupid clients trying to upgrade perl when you ask for a dual-life module to be upgraded
17:59 ether *nod*
17:59 ether I remember that happening a lot. my first 5.10 upgrade happened that way iirc
17:59 ether "wut, all I wanted was an updated Test::More!"
19:49 rjbs ether: They are no_index specifically so that the version in core will not be indexed, and the standalone release wil be.
19:50 rjbs Otherwise, we'd need some way for the core dist to say, "I am including some modules, but please do not index them, because they should not show up as part of this dist in 02packages."
19:50 rjbs but that's specifically what no_index is
19:58 ether rjbs: I believe you are reinforcing what I said, rather than contradicting it
19:58 ether just to confirm
19:58 rjbs ether: You said "dual-life dists shouldn't be no_index"
19:59 rjbs I am saying, "If they're not marked no_index, I don't know what else we'd do."
20:04 ether I meant that the versions shipped separately should not be no_index. the versions shipped with core should be.
20:04 ether because we want the standalone dist to be the one the index points to
20:05 ether speaking of which, Carp is at a later version in core than the standalone release.  I've been waiting at $work for this release so I can remove a local workaround. Zefram seems to be gone; is anyone else able to do this?
20:08 rjbs ether: Okay!  I misunderstood your original message.  Clearly, yes, the standalone dists shouldn't be shipped with no_index int hem. That's be weird.
20:08 rjbs ether: file a perlbug?  I can do it, if needed.  I'll bug Zefram, though, first.
20:13 ether ok
