08:51 dp_ good morning fellas
08:51 dp_ qq if some module has README/README.pod shouldn't that be displayed as pod?
08:52 dp_ the difference between metacpan and sco
08:52 dp_ https://metacpan.org/pod/DBIx::Class::AuditLog
08:52 dipsy [ DBIx::Class::AuditLog - Simple activity audit logging for DBIx::Class - metacpan.org ]

08:52 dipsy [ DBIx::Class::AuditLog - Simple activity audit logging for DBIx::Class - metacpan.org ]
08:53 haarg doesn't seem reasonable to me to prioritize the README over the docs for the module itself
08:53 haarg i'd argue that that dist has its docs organized badly
08:54 dp_ fair enough
08:54 dp_ just sco points to the README
08:55 haarg when?
08:55 dipsy why?
08:55 dp_ http://search.cpan.org/search?query=DBIx%3A%3AClass%3A%3AAuditLog&mode=all
08:55 dipsy [ The CPAN Search Site - search.cpan.org ]
08:55 dp_ the first result
08:56 haarg actually it looks like sco doesn't even let you get the module docs
08:57 haarg my opinion is that what metacpan is doing is better
08:59 dp_ cool thanks

10:23 haarg so i wrote a new changelog parser that supports infinite nesting and seems to handle all of the existing reported edge cases
10:23 haarg it doesn't use CPAN::Changes at all
10:24 haarg possibly worth using instead of what we have right now, although there's still the option of not attempting to parse and just presenting plaintext
10:25 * ribasushi still thinks that parsing is futile, and "largest contiguous diff" is the sane way forward (my 22c)

10:44 haarg actually i lied, it does use a couple regexes from CPAN::Changes

14:03 oalders haarg: cool. should we try out your changelog parser then?
14:04 haarg oalders: i submitted a PR for it.  i need to fix the tests though.
14:04 oalders ok, great. hadn't seen that yet

15:28 haarg i really need to finish one thing before starting on another
15:29 * haarg started rewriting all of the markup on the release page when working on fixing the changelog tests
15:31 vroom joined #metacpan
15:31 haarg the test is checking that a given page doesn't show the wrong version's changelog entries, expecting it to display nothing instead
15:32 haarg but my parser is able to get the correct changes for that version :(

16:12 haarg tests should be fixed now
16:13 haarg amusing when half of the changes to tests are because they were expecting shitty behavior

17:50 rwstauner ribasushi++ i totally agree... i for one would be perfectly happy with a pre-block of the appropriate chunk of the changelog

17:53 rwstauner i started looking at the changelog issues yesterday... glad i didn't put too much work into it... but basically my thought so far was that want to totally remove our custom parser, b/c 150+ lines of code duplicated from an external module is just not worth maintaining

20:10 mrhorner talking on cpantesters-discuss I was given a solution for finding all the modules produced by author by using the unix tool cut and 02packages.details.txt, which works fine.  now i’m looking for a metaCPAN-api equiv.  seems like I’m missing something simple, as you can search by author using cpan ‘a’, which returns the author details (name and email) but not an exhaustive list of the author’s available modules.  parsing the 02packages.details.t
20:10 mrhorner is fine too, just looking for a crossplatform perl api for such a thing.  thanks!
20:21 mrhorner seems like metacpan_meta.pl from MetaCPAN::Clients is pretty close, but wondering if anyone else has any suggestions or thoughts.  thanks.
