10:18 heytitle_ How can I favorite a module on metacpan?
10:18 heytitle_ Is it ++ thing?
10:18 ranguard heytitle_: yea
10:19 heytitle_ Do I have to authen with PAUSE also?
10:19 ranguard no
10:20 ranguard only useful to do that if you are a PAUSE author already, but not required
10:20 heytitle_ now, i'm using github as a credential.
10:20 ranguard that'll work
10:20 heytitle_ my favorite list is empty :(
10:21 ranguard so go click some ++'s - or are you saying you have already when logged in with GH?
10:22 ranguard maybe: https://metacpan.org/about/faq#doyouhavemultipleaccounts ?
10:22 dipsy [ MetaCPAN FAQ - metacpan.org ]
10:22 heytitle_ thanks
10:31 neilb ranguard: by closing that ticket, people won't see it when they look at the list of open issues, thus reducing the likelihood of people bothering to comment. You're essentially saying that people need to give changes time to bed in, which is fair enough. Has enough time passed for me to raise a ticket about the "Contents [show]" which appeared at the top of every page? :-)
10:34 dp_ joined #metacpan
10:38 ranguard neilb: fair point, have reopened - so MORE people dont' re-open
10:38 neilb :-)
10:38 ranguard umm, don't create new tickets
10:40 ranguard neilb: please find the original discussion on the "Contents [show]" - I remember it went around in circles for a while, don't remember details
10:40 neilb Ok, I'll have a hunt
10:40 ranguard then make a call if enough time has passed :)
10:41 ranguard my only thing is these sorts of things are always going to be down to personal taste, and I'd rather not distract the few active developers we have from more important issues :)
10:43 ranguard so if someone submits a non-insaine patch it's likely to get merged as we want to encourage more committers, even if later that means someone needs to do an overhall of design down the line
10:59 neilb I added a comment but didn't re-open it. As I said in the ticket, I can just use greasemonkey to personalise to taste :-)
11:21 haarg neilb: have you see https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/pull/1353

11:59 neilb haarg: sorry, I missed that one. So if you collapsed the TOC and right sidebar, would the minimal versions be stacked on the right, or side-by-side on the right?
12:01 haarg not sure i understand the question
12:02 vroom joined #metacpan
12:03 haarg if you right align the toc, it positions to right of the content along side it.  the hide button still works the same, collapsing the toc to just the heading.
12:11 neilb haarg: basically I was asking if it ends up looking like this: http://i.imgur.com/myd3kHo.png
12:12 neilb or does the body (of the pod) wrap around it?
12:12 haarg no, it's floating.  content flows around it.
12:12 haarg same as the right panel
12:13 neilb right. do they stack as I've shown, or are the contents and right-panel thing side-by-side (and thus sticking further into the content)?
12:16 vroom joined #metacpan
12:16 haarg currently they end up side by side
12:17 haarg i still haven't figured out what to do with the right panel toggle.  i really hate it.
12:21 neilb I've had an idea related to this, which I'll write up later. Thanks.

15:36 ether I wonder if dist pages should put "License: unknown" in red in the sidebar
15:36 ether so it gets noticed more as a potential danger sign
15:40 gvenkat joined #metacpan
15:49 haarg i started work on making that into a link along the lines of Changes link
15:50 haarg kind of overengineered it though so i need to rethink it
15:52 haarg possibly the chat link should be target="_blank"
16:02 miyagawa joined #metacpan
16:05 oalders target="_blank" sounds good
16:05 ribasushi yeah probably
16:06 ribasushi especially given you can't sanely navigate back
16:13 ether neilb: I like your idea of a "newbie mode"
16:14 ether perhaps things should be presented differently depending on whether you're logged in or not
16:14 ether or default to newbie mode until a logged-in user changes some preferences
16:14 ether I'd definitely welcome the opportunity to add more metadata to dist pages that might otherwise be confusing
16:14 ether show me ALL the data :D
16:15 ilmari use more 'data';

16:21 haarg i added support for setting the language with a bare string
16:22 haarg it seems unlikely that many more settings would be needed, so i don't think it's likely to ever conflict with anything

19:51 neilb haarg: I like it!
19:51 neilb I think the visuals need a bit of tweaking, but really like the idea
19:56 haarg have any suggestions on the visuals?
19:57 haarg the main thing i don't like right now is that the click target shifts when you click on it
19:58 neilb so when you click, it 'opens down'?
20:00 neilb thoughts on the visual: (1) could show the first and last lines of pod, with a line between them, and a thing to click on that line. (I'll do a mock up if that's not clear)
20:01 neilb But the downside is that you don't get the compression that your current look gives. So:
20:03 neilb (2) Show one line of pod, with something to the right to click on, such as "[pod: 12 more lines]", and a different background color..
20:10 neilb (3) a line with a button to the right, so your eye can just skip over it when you're looking at the code: http://i.imgur.com/A4cSbLu.png
