02:17 oalders Mithaldu: don't they still need to be tested?
02:18 Mithaldu oalders: i don't know if haarg tested it, but the icon one had the issus identified and ironed out
02:18 oalders Mithaldu: ok. somebody with a deployed app will need to test it first this time ;)
02:18 Mithaldu also i hope you don't expect me to go through the whole process of getting metacpan running on my machine to test it
02:19 Mithaldu yeah well, i guess then it dies
02:19 oalders it takes maybe 10 minutes
02:19 Mithaldu i'm on windows
02:19 Mithaldu and i presume you have one
02:19 oalders that's a blocker?
02:19 oalders (i'm honestly curious)
02:19 oalders don't have a windows machine
02:19 Mithaldu it's very likely to be more than 10 minutes due to that factor alone
02:19 Mithaldu an installed app
02:19 Mithaldu not a windows machine
02:19 oalders it's actually not really installed
02:20 oalders you just get the checkout and do a carton install
02:20 oalders which won't pollute anything
02:20 oalders and we got rid of dzil
02:20 oalders so no pulling half of CPAN
02:20 Mithaldu i'd rather it pull that than try and do anything with elasticsearch
02:20 oalders there's no elasticsearch on the front end
02:21 oalders check the deps ;)
02:21 oalders well, there's elasticsearch module but no actual elasticsearch deployment
02:21 Mithaldu ok, here's the deal
02:21 Mithaldu i give it a try
02:22 Mithaldu and either it works and you get an "i tested it"
02:22 Mithaldu or it doesn't work and you get to keep both halves
02:22 oalders i can live with that
02:22 Mithaldu also you get to stay around till i'm done :v
02:22 oalders mostly i'm curious about the windows end of things
02:22 Mithaldu carton is running now
02:22 oalders sure, i'll be around
02:22 Mithaldu note
02:23 Mithaldu last time i tried something like this carton managed to crap 2 gb of log noise onto my c drive, unasked
02:23 oalders weird
02:23 Mithaldu it's not particularly weird
02:23 Mithaldu just unmaintained
02:23 haarg i just install the deps directly rather than using carton
02:23 klapperl joined #metacpan
02:23 Mithaldu note that carton's last release was 2013
02:23 Mithaldu and miyagawa does ruby now
02:24 haarg haven't tried on windows though.  i'd hope it would work, although there's enough modules that i wouldn't be surprised if some problems showed up.
02:25 haarg i guess there's also PerlIO::gzip needing a patched install
02:25 Mithaldu oh goody, this is gonna install catalyst
02:26 Mithaldu oalders: fwiw, at that point you're already at the "half of cpan" point, really :P
02:26 Mithaldu haarg: whats wrong with that module
02:27 haarg Makefile.PL is broken on 5.20
02:27 Mithaldu ah
02:27 haarg it's a trivial fix.  patch in rt for months.
02:27 Mithaldu not an issue on my perl
02:27 Mithaldu but i feel your pain
02:27 haarg it has a check for if perlio exists.
02:27 haarg all you have to do is remove the check.
02:27 haarg rather annoying.
02:30 Mithaldu ! Installing PerlIO::gzip failed.
02:30 Mithaldu hm
02:30 Mithaldu ! Installing Variable::Magic failed.
02:31 Mithaldu might be carton/cpanm's fault
02:41 Mithaldu oh good, now xml-libxml is throwing compilation crashes at me
02:43 Mithaldu primarily because Devel::CheckLib is still very far from actually being useful
02:52 Mithaldu oalders: and first round is still running
02:52 Mithaldu despite it actually having skipped catalyst due to lacking deps
02:59 oalders ok, so not 10 minutes :)
02:59 Mithaldu https://gist.github.com/wchristian/b36410710f6eb04aaa18
02:59 Mithaldu i give up
03:00 Mithaldu oalders: do whatever you like
03:00 oalders just for giggles, can you try to run it again to see if it installs some of these?
03:00 Mithaldu i *did*
03:00 Mithaldu read the log
03:01 oalders ah, ok.  i'll take it from here then :)
03:01 Mithaldu i also tried with cpan itself
03:01 oalders so, not windows friendly
03:01 Mithaldu Variable::Magic seems to have broken its makefile recently
03:01 Mithaldu which is surprising to be honest
03:01 Mithaldu perlio gzip doesn't pull in its libs properly
03:02 Mithaldu regardless of the failures
03:02 Mithaldu even if they worked, it would take at least 1.5 hours to install everything, including catalyst
03:03 Mithaldu so unless a windows user has actually already installed everything, now you know why they're liable to throw a coffee mug when you recommend that
03:03 oalders now i know ;)
03:04 Mithaldu man, i'm not looking forward to analyzing all these fails :(
03:09 oalders i should have some time before $work tomorrow to test this out
03:09 oalders thanks for your help
03:09 oalders Mithaldu++
03:11 Mithaldu looking forward to it

13:02 metacpan left #metacpan
13:05 oalders we'll need to add some padding to those top icons
13:38 ranguard yea, was going to say they look a little squashed, but nice otherwise :)
13:42 oalders i can wait until somebody finds it annoying enough to fix

15:54 * kentnl has been idly wondering if there's a way to determine "referrents" on metacpan, ie: "List of modules that reference this one in POD"
16:32 haarg Mithaldu: the alignment on the home icon is bad
16:34 Mithaldu haarg: baseline isn't much better
16:34 Mithaldu baseline and a negative margin?
16:34 haarg baseline isn't the only option
16:35 haarg also the spacing is messed up, but that's an easier fix
16:35 Mithaldu does bottom look good to you?
16:35 Mithaldu it seems to line it up a little better
16:36 Mithaldu or sub
16:36 Mithaldu though that might be a bit of abuse?
16:36 Mithaldu oh, text-bottom seems good
16:37 Mithaldu haarg: new css class for this?

16:38 Mithaldu bottom looks bad in ff
16:39 haarg text-bottom seems good
16:39 Mithaldu are you gonna make the change?
16:39 haarg i'll let you
16:39 Mithaldu aight
16:40 lifeofguenter joined #metacpan
16:43 Mithaldu haarg: will you be able to verify proposed less changes as sane?
16:44 haarg yes
16:44 Mithaldu cool
16:46 Mithaldu ... what in the fuck is >
16:50 Mithaldu haarg: https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/pull/1469
16:51 haarg direct descendant
16:51 Mithaldu ok, then that seems right
16:51 Mithaldu i looked at the documentation
16:52 Mithaldu and they only indirectly refer to > as a thing that does mixins
16:54 haarg https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/Child_selectors
16:54 Mithaldu ooh, it's a css feature
16:54 Mithaldu never seen that used elsewhere before, neat
16:54 Mithaldu thanks

17:02 haarg for the most part, the selectors used in less are all normal css things.
17:03 haarg & is the only thing that comes to mind as something that looks selector-ish but is a less thing
17:03 Mithaldu yeah, i was eyeing that one with suspicion too
17:03 Mithaldu anyhow, PR's out and should be good :)

17:06 Mithaldu ah
17:07 Mithaldu i'm very unclear on how and when and how fast deploys happen
17:07 haarg it's triggered manually, and takes a minute or two.
17:07 Mithaldu ah
17:09 Mithaldu \o/
17:10 Mithaldu opera doesn't seem to know text-bottom, but otherwise it's fine
17:10 haarg hrm
17:11 haarg it should know it, just possibly calculating it differently
17:13 Mithaldu oh well, it's a miniscule discrepance on a cruelly orphaned browser
17:13 Mithaldu i'd probably be the only one who cares
17:15 haarg only going to get worse unfortunately
17:16 Mithaldu i'm aware
17:17 haarg i should probably download the last presto version for testing
17:17 Mithaldu but i've been doing the "use opera 12 for all sane websites, and open js monstrosities in browsers that shit all over the memory"
17:17 Mithaldu thing for a few years now
17:17 Mithaldu so it's no big change
17:17 haarg although opera always had good css support, so i never really found much need to test with it
17:18 haarg had its own occasional quirks but so does everything
17:18 Mithaldu right
17:19 Mithaldu i never had any issues developing with opera as a target
