13:12 kentnl If I wanted to locally simulate how metacpan indexes a single dist ( to attempt to diagnose what is going wrong in https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/issues/945 ), where would I start?
13:23 vroom joined #metacpan
13:23 oalders kentnl: probably grab the VM.  let me get you the docs
13:24 oalders kentnl: actually, the link is in the channel topic
13:24 oalders instructions on seeding the api are here https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-developer/blob/master/README_API.md
13:25 oalders then you could do something like "./bin/run bin/metacpan release path/to/single/tarball"
13:29 vroom1 joined #metacpan
13:30 kentnl is there a specific location to store the vbox image? the stock downloader is single-threaded which means I cap out at 111k/s throughput, but I can get 2M/s throughput with a multithreaded fetcher
13:31 kentnl ( fucking ping time screws your bandwidth, tcp-- )
13:46 * kentnl figured out `vagrant box add mcbase_005 ./fetched_box_file ` might work
13:47 dolmen joined #metacpan
13:56 oalders yep, that should work

15:17 oalders should the =for block be getting displayed here? https://metacpan.org/pod/touch
15:17 oalders (it's before the NAME section)
15:42 tianon joined #metacpan
15:46 kentnl ugh. That README_API stuff is soul destroying :/
15:47 kentnl oalders: he's using =for incorrectly if he expects it not to show
15:47 kentnl =for only parses one line. Not a block.
15:47 oalders ah, ok
15:47 oalders kentnl: any particular way we can improve the README_API?
15:48 kentnl oalders: I just don't know what parts of it I need to do for my 'pretend to index', and if I do, its a lot of work scattered in lots of manual steps => ugh. Headache inbound.
15:49 oalders kentnl: you can get most of it done with one shell script, i think
15:49 oalders let me check
15:49 oalders sh /vagrant/bin/index-cpan.sh
15:50 oalders that should basically get you up and running
15:50 oalders if it doesn't, we should fix that
16:00 kentnl oalders: https://github.com/briandfoy/PerlPowerTools/pull/8 # I've commented on the pull that made this. Though open a new bug if you want =)
16:00 oalders kentnl: nice. i had been lazy and just opened a bug ticket.  i'll link it to this
16:00 oalders kentnl++
16:04 * kentnl holy smoking FSM's at amount of indexing errors
16:24 oalders what kind of errors?
16:44 kentnl Archive::Any whining about weird content encoding/undefs
16:44 kentnl No handler available for type 'application/octet-stream' at /home/vagrant/carton/metacpan-api/lib/perl5/Archive/Any.pm line 52.

17:40 ether is it known that the bug counts are not showing up for dists that use RT?
17:53 rwstauner ether: example release?  i have a possible clue
17:55 ether I was just looking at https://metacpan.org/release/Scalar-List-Utils
17:59 rwstauner yes, it is somewhat of a known issue
17:59 rwstauner i'll try to look at it later

22:27 mishin hi metacpan
22:29 mishin could you tell me why https://metacpan.org/pod/GD has metadata about repository https://metis data acpan.org/source/LDS/GD-2.56/META.yml but this data doesn't appear on metacpan.org ?
22:29 mishin https://metacpan.org/source/LDS/GD-2.56/META.yml
22:30 mishin release info https://metacpan.org/release/LDS/GD-2.56 has lack about github repository
22:30 ether https://metacpan.org/source/LDS/GD-2.56/META.json#L60
22:30 ether the metadata wasn't declared properly
22:31 ether because of this line: https://metacpan.org/source/LDS/GD-2.56/Makefile.PL#L265
22:31 ether he's declaring "I'm giving you data in version 2 format", and then.. doesn't :)
22:31 ether the repository key needs to be one level down, underneath 'resources'
22:31 ether consquently repository is treated as unknown, therefore prefaced with x_
22:32 ether fixing this is an easy PR :)
22:32 ether assuming you were assigned this for PRC :)
22:32 mishin thanks ether
22:33 ether indeed, if you had a bit of time on your hands, you could fix all such distributions by searching for "file:META.yml x_repository" at grep.cpan.me :)
22:33 ether and we'd all love you for it
22:38 mishin http://grep.cpan.me/?q=file%3AMETA.yml+x_repository cool thing
22:42 rwstauner ether++
22:42 vroom1 joined #metacpan
22:44 ether heh, that's the only one, awesome :)
22:45 ether there's two matches for x_bugtracker - one is Moose-Autobox that is already fixed in the repo (will release as soon as we have a patch ready for blead), and Win32API-ProcessStatus is the other.
22:46 * ether patches that one.
22:50 mishin ether, I send pr https://github.com/lstein/Perl-GD/pull/13
22:51 ether mishin++
22:54 mishin thanks, it's not very hard to make pr eventually ;)) but Neil make good things (i learn git for example)
22:54 rwstauner :)
22:54 ether :D
22:54 ether and now.. you're UNSTOPPABLE :D

23:01 mishin 2 ether is it parameter starting with x_ good? http://grep.cpan.me/?q=file%3AMETA.yml+\bx_\w%2B
23:10 ether it depends on the key. x_authority*, x_Dist_Zilla are expected
23:10 ether they're holding extra data that isn't defined by the meta-spec yet, but might be added in future versions
23:11 ether at the upcoming QA Hackathon we're planning to document the "normal" x_ fields and sketch out a plan for adding them in future spec versions (if appropriate)
23:12 ether metacpan uses x_contributors to populate the list of contributor names you see under the author's picture in the upper right of the page
23:12 mishin https://github.com/plicease/Win32API-ProcessStatus/pull/2
23:12 ether I think neilb ran a script a few months back which counted all the x_ fields found on all cpan distributions
23:13 ether mishin: too slow :) https://github.com/plicease/Win32API-ProcessStatus/pull/1
23:13 ether sorry!
23:13 mishin well ;)
23:13 ether :D
23:16 mishin thanks for a good lesson, I'm go to sleep 2.15 in Moscow
23:17 ether o/
