14:25 alh https://metacpan.org/pod/release/JROBINSON/DBIx-Class-Manual-SQLHackers-1.2/lib/DBIx/Class/Manual/SQLHackers.pod
14:25 alh The TOC links are broken in Metacpan but seem fine on SCO
14:25 alh (Introduction, CREATE, INSERT, etc...)
14:43 haarg it's a combination of two issues.  first is that the dist isn't indexed in 02packages anywhere.
14:44 haarg that could be fixed by either converting the files to .pm files, or by using provides metadata
14:44 haarg second is that metacpan always resolves links to the latest version
14:44 haarg rather than the in-dist version of a packages
14:45 alh Okay thanks
14:46 haarg https://github.com/CPAN-API/metacpan-web/issues/1567
14:47 ribasushi alh: note that if you are planning to patch this - it'd be better to hold horses until the underlying issue is hashed out
14:47 alh Wait, so if you're reading the pod of version LATEST-5 of a module and it links to another pod in the same dist
14:47 alh THat link will send you to the latest documentation?
14:47 ribasushi I was going to do so lat month but travel interveened, will def. do it in the next 24h
14:47 alh ribasushi: I wasn't
14:47 alh Thanks :)
14:47 ribasushi alh: just saving you trouble is all ;)
14:47 alh Much appreciated!
14:48 haarg alh: correct
14:48 alh haarg: Ewwwwwww
14:48 alh That's way less than ideal
14:48 haarg part of the issue is that the html for the pod is generated once when indexing
14:49 haarg and the front end just takes that html and uses it (with some minor adjustments)
14:49 haarg i'm not certain of the best solution there.  the front end could adjust links looking like metacpan.org/pod/X if they are in-dist.
14:50 ribasushi haarg: since at index time you know the "perm-url" for any module
14:50 ribasushi why not have the backend serve "static urls" ?
14:54 haarg because if you are viewing the latest version, you don't want the perma-link style urls
14:54 haarg same problem but in the other direction
14:55 alh Why not?
14:55 alh If they go to the right place...
14:55 haarg also i think i was wrong about when the html is generated - it happens when it is requested.  but it's still done by the back end.
14:56 haarg bookmarked pages should go to the latest version imo
14:56 haarg honestly having useful urls is the only real reason i use metacpan rather than sco
14:57 alh A user may bookmark a version because they want docs for a specific version, or they may bookmark it because they want latest
14:57 haarg there are permalinks on the sidebar if you want to get the specific version's link

16:49 jdv79 that might explain why i get dead links in docs
16:51 jdv79 trying to read stack traces for this stuff is painful

17:56 haarg https://github.com/haarg/cpan-api/commit/ba0e35f80f3cb6517016a69d130c73cd0bbec4b4 completely untested, but a sketch of fixing half of the problem
17:57 jdv79 haarg: aren't you the one that took over CHI?
17:58 jdv79 your gravatar thing looks familiar
17:58 haarg i ported it to Moo.  i haven't been doing enough maintenance since then though.
17:59 jdv79 I used to work with Jon and am _too_ intimate with CHI.
17:59 jdv79 Well, then thats the 3rd OO framework CHI has been on - Mouse, Moose, Moo
18:03 jdv79 anyway, do you know if metacpan could use a server side syntax highlighter and store the static rendered html instead of using the js hilighter?
18:03 jdv79 for p6 i mean
18:03 jdv79 i don't know if i have it in me to make the js one handle p6
18:05 haarg it's possible, although it would take a bit of work
