14:45 jdv79 do you guys run the prd instance with vagrnt and virtualbox ?
14:51 ranguard prd?
14:52 jdv79 production
14:53 jdv79 i imagine not - just asking
14:53 ranguard jdv79: no, bare metal, but managed via puppet - which also managed the virtualbox
14:53 jdv79 i'm having a little trouble setting up prototype site
14:53 ranguard s/managed/manages/
14:54 jdv79 the vm stuff is rather cranky
14:54 jdv79 :(
14:54 haarg what problems are you having?
14:55 jdv79 nowhere suitable to run it
14:55 jdv79 ideally i just wanted to throw up a dev vm for peeps to look at
14:56 ranguard hmm, it's kind'a tied to being on a desktop with the git repo's then mounted into the VM...
14:57 ranguard otherwise it's production basically
14:57 ranguard that said you could get it working with out puppet config... for a specific machine (you can change where it gets the git info from) - but I don't really have the time to sort that I'm afraid
14:58 jdv79 nobody has time which is why i'm looking for ways i can get it done
15:01 ranguard jdv79: so if you start a VM somewhere, then use our puppet to configure it, that would probably be your best bet - I'll try write up how to do that if you are interested, then you can send me pull requests to merge into puppet for such a VM
15:01 * ranguard heads home - back later
15:06 jdv79 i don't know puppet
15:06 jdv79 and i'm not very vm savy
15:06 * jdv79 misses the old days
15:07 jdv79 i imagine it'll just take inordinately longer than necessary
15:10 jdv79 i also don't have a place to setup a vm
15:10 jdv79 atm
15:18 haarg i really need to get mc-api running without the VM soon.  i keep having to find files to delete.
15:25 jdv79 it would be nice if it was easy to setup api and web in a simpler way
15:26 jdv79 not requiring root or huge complex deps and stuff
15:26 jdv79 not sure taht's possible to even useful for the normal use cases
15:26 jdv79 but it would be nice for me:)
15:27 jdv79 cpanm MetaCPAN::API; metacpan-api -p 5000
15:27 jdv79 or something
15:29 haarg running the web portion on its own against api.metacpan.org is trivial
15:29 haarg i'm hoping to improve the api so that it is easier
15:30 jdv79 i need both
15:31 jdv79 k
15:31 haarg part of the issue with the api is that it requires a CPAN mirror and ES index, so there will always be some external setup work needed
15:38 jdv79 maybe its not as hard as i imagine
15:38 jdv79 i'm at the end of a shitty ass  conn today
15:38 jdv79 so my patience is unfortunately super thin
15:39 jdv79 i spent an hour trying to get the dev vm working on a box
15:39 jdv79 only to find out its likely imposssible
15:44 haarg why is it likely impossible?
15:44 jdv79 the cpan mirror and ES index are not a big deal
15:44 jdv79 because i thought it was a hw box and it was a vm itself
15:45 melo1 joined #metacpan
15:45 jdv79 let me see if i can't cobble it together without the high powered tools
15:45 jdv79 hope api runs on a recent es
15:49 haarg no
16:00 jdv79 it requires 0.2?

16:50 jdv79 looking good now that i moved to get a better wifi signal
16:50 jdv79 got web and es setup ok

16:58 jdv79 huh, restart and it works?  weird.
17:10 jdv79 gah.  PerlIO-gzip fails
17:26 jdv79 well, got past that
17:26 jdv79 i don't know what happened
17:26 jdv79 but now plackup fails
17:26 jdv79 so, mostly there at least.
17:26 jdv79 jdv@hack:~/cpan-api$ ./bin/run plackup -p 5000
17:26 jdv79 Error while loading /home/jdv/cpan-api/app.psgi: Couldn't instantiate component "MetaCPAN::Server::Model::Source", "Attribute (cpan) does not pass the type constraint because: Validation failed for 'MooseX::Types::Path::Class::MoreCoercions::Dir' with value undef at constructor MetaCPAN::Server::Model::Source::new (defined at /home/jdv/cpan-api/lib/MetaCPAN/Server/Model/Source.pm line 86) line 38.
17:26 jdv79 lovely
17:28 jdv79 is that a config thing or a new cpan lib change....

17:35 jdv79 conf.  woohoo.
17:35 jdv79 ineptitude overcome
17:52 ranguard jdv79: yea, ES requires a very old version atm
17:53 ranguard or rather API requires a very old ES version atm
18:29 jdv79 it seems easyier than i assumed to get the old es up so its cool
