19:30 jdv79 ranguard: what are you cpan'ing on about?  let's talk.
19:33 ranguard jdv79: wondering how to get people to either a) build a PAUSE / CPAN for perl6, or b) start using the existing one
19:35 ranguard or c) just bootstrap something that uploads modules.perl6.org site gh modules to cpan as 1 author until this gets sorted
19:36 ranguard I've heared a few times (recently), github works for Go and other languages, which I just want to scream at people for
19:54 jdv79 i'm no expert by the way.  just the idiot that decided to pick up the baton out of trash and run with it for a bit
19:54 jdv79 my take is that the p6 community doesn't have a good feel for what the ecosystem(s) will look like yet
19:54 genehack ... that's no baton.
19:55 mst are you sure it was the trash and not http://trout.me.uk/hopper.jpg ?
19:55 * ranguard is just worried that a few people have said github works for other languages
19:55 jdv79 well, token?  idk.  there were others before me that did some work in this area.
19:56 ranguard so, as a short term... if I were to write a script to scape modules.perl6.org and upload them at p6-xxx (so not to clash) with a little munging of meta6.json or what ever
19:57 ranguard then there is a history, it's there for people to play with making various tools work (including metacpan6)
19:59 * ranguard is sure it would involve a lot of fudging and bad decisions on my part, but then it might help with getting people talking about the issues (like a '*' being a valid version in the modules documentation!)
19:59 jdv79 to me seems a little too temporary but why not?
20:00 * ranguard will be VERY happy if it can all be thrown away :)
20:01 jdv79 no need to name mangle.  cpan6 is sequested offf fine.
20:02 jdv79 it actually, now that i'm thinking more, might turn out to be less temp
20:02 ranguard ?
20:02 jdv79 all p6 dists go under authors/id/*/*/*/Perl6/ iirc
20:02 ranguard jdv79: what was your example p6 module on cpan?
20:04 jdv79 the newest one in here :  http://www.cpan.org/authors/id/J/JD/JDV/Perl6/
20:05 jdv79 mst: that's hilarious
20:05 ranguard jdv79: and the current mc.org doesn't index that?
20:05 ranguard but your p6 one does?
20:06 jdv79 it becomes entangled with the p5 dist of the same name
20:06 jdv79 since its also under my account
20:06 jdv79 yes, the metacpan6 instance indexes it the best i'd say
20:08 ranguard https://metacpan.org/author/JDV ?
20:08 jdv79 yeah, metacpan doesn't like that
20:10 ranguard so we probably need to fix metacpan first :(
20:10 ranguard we could just get it to ignore anything in /Perl6/ if that's now a good convension
20:11 mst I think that would seem reasonable
20:11 mst I'm pretty happy with the idea that if somebody specifically creates a Perl6 directory and then uploads perl5 code into it, we tell them they get to keep both halves
20:12 jdv79 yes.  I donn't think i got around to that yet.  ranguard, you want to do it?
20:12 jdv79 maybe email the s.c.o guy(s) about it too.  their stuff breaks similarly.
20:13 ranguard mst: ^^ ?
20:14 mst jdv79: suggest waiting for metacpan to do it
20:14 mst then dropping an email to the s.c.o ticket queue
20:14 ranguard mst: cheers
20:14 mst graham'll likely concur and do it shortly
20:14 mst ranguard: that's how I did it for mailto bugtrackers
20:14 ranguard cool
20:16 ranguard https://github.com/perl6modules/perl6-module-uploader now exists and I have an issue to stop 'mc.org' indexing /Perl6/ files
20:17 jdv79 mst: yeah.  cool.
20:18 jdv79 ranguard: welcome aboard the cpan6 train:)
20:19 jdv79 its pretty lonely right but it might get more popular some day
20:19 ranguard jdv79: I'll be getting off once the track is laid!
20:21 jdv79 any help is great

20:40 metacpan [cpan-api] ranguard created leo/do-not-index-perl6 (+1 new commit): http://git.io/v0EUz
20:40 metacpan cpan-api/leo/do-not-index-perl6 eaaefbf Leo Lapworth: Do not index anything in a /Perl6/ directory...
20:40 metacpan left #metacpan
20:43 ranguard jdv79: I guess a flag to the script to then reverse that for you would make sense, but I'll leave that for your branch
20:44 ranguard jdv79: am I right in thinking your branch will eventually be mergable backin to core cpan-api?
20:44 jdv79 so far its an env var flag but yeah.  cool.
20:44 jdv79 of course
20:44 ranguard :)
20:48 ranguard oh, btw, I'm writing this all in perl5... because JFDI :)

21:20 ranguard night :)
21:20 jdv79 theres a hacky thing like that in my fork of cpan-api
21:21 ranguard jdv79: url?
