16:16 gtodd I wonder what % of CPAN is due to "yak shaving" ...
16:17 gtodd 1).  Great Idea for Excellent::Module  ... but first -1). Module making Excellent::Feature possible   0). Excellent::Feature ... etc.  then finally 1). Excellent::Module gets built but it's really Excellent::Feature that ends up rocking the world
16:20 ribasushi gtodd: has there been stuff on CPAN recently that qualifies as "rock the world" ?
16:20 gtodd :-D
16:21 gtodd Yes!
16:21 ribasushi like?
16:22 gtodd where "rock" = "humbly hypelessly allow for modest change in the large and complex world"

17:34 oalders this is something we can fix
17:36 kentnl Some % of it is slaying sandworms
17:40 oalders If only I understood that reference :)

17:47 kentnl just wait till you find yourself touching code that uses ' as a namespace delimiter, and its done that because it was written back when perl 5.4 was still new.
17:47 kentnl You're going to pray for water of life.

17:51 kentnl oh. Wait, my bad. The code says "Should run on Perl 4 or greater"

19:03 oalders ok, so i guess i need to read Dune
19:24 ether the miniseries from ~10 years ago was a reasonable reboot of the story
19:25 ether better casting choices than the original 80s film
19:40 mst I keep pondering trying to watch the miniseries
19:43 ether one of my main complaints was the inconsistency and illogic of the characters' accents.  first you have Saskia Reeves, an excellent stage actress, keeping her British accent, and then you have Alec Newman, also British, who put on an American accent. And I don't know what accent Laura Burton ...
19:44 ether ... (Alia, grown up) was trying to do but it was horrible.
19:44 ether other downside of the miniseries -- no Patrick Stewart as Gurney Halleck
19:46 ether it's like they had someone at the network saying "we can't have *all* the leads sounding British!!!"

20:12 kentnl I had a thought about that lately with War & Peace, which is about Russian Aristocracy. Its just weird having the Russians being Americans / Brits
