06:03 k-man hi
06:04 k-man i have a feature request for metacpan - i wish that the code snippets would indicate somehow if the line is longer than what you can see
06:04 k-man maybe ellipsis on the end?
06:04 k-man or a scroll bar
06:25 jdv79 do you have an example?
06:25 jdv79 you could github issue it i guess

07:23 k-man yes i do
07:23 k-man one sec
07:24 k-man https://metacpan.org/pod/DBIx::Class::Relationship#belongs_to
07:24 k-man err.. scroll to the second "$fredsbooks"
07:25 k-man if you make the browser narrower, you'll see what i mean

08:58 ranguard mst: sure
08:59 ranguard k-man: the honest answer is we've got bigger issues to work on... but we welcome patches
09:04 k-man ranguard, fair enough
09:04 k-man i did have a quick look into the css to do some kind if ellipses but didn't come up with a good solution yet
09:04 k-man what are the big issues?

09:29 ranguard k-man: we're on elasticsearch 0.20 (and not using the cluster feature)...  2.2.0 has just been released!
09:29 ranguard k-man: the search algorithum isn't great
09:30 ranguard k-man: we need features like 'save-for-later' (being different to the current 'favourit' which people also use as 'save-for'later')
09:31 ranguard https://github.com/cpan-api/metacpan-web/issues = 133 issues and that doesn't include the wishlist https://github.com/CPAN-API/cpan-api/wiki/Wishlist
09:32 ranguard and there arn't many/any active devs (a couple of us do bits here and there, hopefully at the QA hackathon we'll get a bit more done)
09:33 ranguard hmm, I'll go on a pruning spree with those issues soon... too many should be on wish list

14:39 genehack ranguard: is this something that CPAN Pull Request people could help out with?
15:03 oalders genehack: yeah, there's likely some low hanging fruit there on the metacpan-web repo
15:09 * ranguard isn't sure any of those are the 'bigger' issues though - but all issues fixed are a bonus :)
15:10 oalders well, i think for the challenge you don't want to put a bigger issue on the table
15:10 genehack neilb: ^^ not sure if there's a good way to include MetaCPAN in the list of available repos?
15:10 oalders where bigger == logs of work
15:10 oalders *lots
15:11 oalders It could be just this repo https://github.com/cpan-api/metacpan-web
15:11 * ranguard nods
15:11 genehack yeah, that's a different project, i think -- but if we can get some volunteers in and get that issue count beat down that can't hurt...
15:11 genehack oalders: thanks
15:11 oalders would be great to chip away at some of these things
15:11 ranguard genehack: if it's a go let me know and I'll try mark tickets that are likely to be good for the PUll request challenge
15:12 genehack my main issue is, i know neil has a lot of helper scripts for this, and they depend on parsing the 02pkg and stuff like that
15:12 genehack so i don't know how easy it is to introduce a repo that's not actually in CPAN into the list
15:12 ranguard (I think there is a mix of stuff, some of which relates to the API more than the web front end)
15:12 genehack but hopefully neilb sees we're talking about him and pops in here 8^)
15:13 neilb I’ll have a think whether there’s some ugly hack I could add to pretend that MetaCPAN is a CPAN dist, so it could be assigned.
15:13 neilb Then I could also make sure it gets assigned every month ;-)
15:13 * neilb updates his todo list
15:13 genehack thanks neilb!
15:15 oalders that would be easier than bundling metacpan for CPAN ;)
15:19 neilb you could have a “MetaCPAN” dist, which is a placeholder, with some doc about the project, and the repo set right \o/
15:19 * neilb is just being lazy
15:21 oalders we probably should do that _anyway_
15:21 oalders since i want to start moving some code to CPAN
15:27 neilb yay!
15:28 neilb oalders: I’ve another project idea which you’d benefit from if you did that, but I’m not going to pre-announce it, as I’ve plenty enough things I haven’t got round to already :-)
15:29 oalders neilb: sounds good.  i'll upload a dist then :)
15:29 genehack so, a meta-dist, if you will
15:29 * genehack will get his coat
15:29 oalders :)
