11:06 karjala Two releases with the same distribution name and version string, are they certain to have the same name field in metacpan API? Or does it depend on the name of the .tgz file, which can contain extra stuff?
11:06 karjala e.g. if someone wants to fix something in a release, so releases again with the same version but different .tgz filename
11:42 ranguard karjala: they shouldn't do that - always increase the version number in both the .tgz AND the meta data
11:43 ranguard once released you can't 'fix' something

13:44 haarg although pause itself will do that in some cases
13:46 ribasushi ranguard: I think karjala is writing a parser-like thing, and hence is interested in corner cases as opposed to best practices, i.e. the "can" not the "should"
13:47 karjala yes, ribasushi
13:48 mst I think the 'name' field is derived from CPAN::DistnameInfo or so?
13:48 karjala But I think I'll just ignore those evil corner cases, and pretend those releases were never re-released
13:50 karjala Thanks mst
13:55 mst I'mnot sure what example you've seen
13:55 mst if you can point one out, that might make it easier to answer definitively
13:58 haarg https://metacpan.org/release/LGODDARD/List-Member-0.044-withoutworldwriteables
13:58 mst ohhhh that
13:59 karjala MetaCPAN hasn't deleted the old 0.044 from its website (both appear when I click the down arrow)
13:59 haarg there are other cases, but that one is automated so there's a fair number of them
14:01 mst karjala: there isn't an 'old' in the case of worldwriteables
14:02 mst though arguably metacpan should only dispaly one of them
14:07 karjala ok, I just saw the name field of that module on metacpan API: it contains the "without..." string, so I think that the combination AUTHOR/name is unique for all uploads. Problem solved. thanks all.
14:08 mst yes. AUTHOR/Foo-Bar-1.23.tar.gz is always unique
