05:36 reyjrar mickey: I've never seen that before, were you able to replicate it?
06:54 mickey reyjrar: will recreate on VM. will get back to you during the weekend

19:50 karjala Is the metacpan team thinking of implementing a "user" type, where we can search for users by id, github username, PAUSE id, etc?
19:51 karjala in the API I mean
19:53 trs karjala: you want to use the https://fastapi.metacpan.org/v1/author index
19:53 trs er, type
19:53 karjala oh cool
19:54 karjala This only applies to authors, right? not ordinary users
19:54 trs Correct.
19:54 trs you, for example, https://fastapi.metacpan.org/v1/author/KARJALA
19:55 trs I don't think we have any intention of exposing the MetaCPAN user database.
19:55 trs It contains private information.
19:55 trs The information on authors is all publicly available or volunteered explicitly by the individuals.
19:55 karjala that's ok
19:56 karjala maybe an OAuth2.0 service could be made, so people could find out their userid
19:56 karjala or something
19:56 karjala then again, maybe not
19:56 trs You can find your userid by going to https://fastapi.metacpan.org/v1/user
19:56 trs As long as you're logged in
19:57 karjala I *AM* logged in, but I get {} at that endpoint
19:57 trs log out and back in again.
19:57 trs then try.
19:58 trs (there was some weirdness with this around the v0 -> v1 move)
19:58 karjala do you get something different?
19:58 trs Yes.
19:58 trs (basically it seems like the v0 sessions didn't carry over to v1, while the web frontend sessions did.)
19:59 trs (so you're logged in as far as the web frontend is concerned, but you're not logged into the backend)
19:59 karjala yes, that was the problem! thanks
20:00 karjala thanks, i think you solved all my problems
20:05 * trs dusts his shoulders off :D
20:06 trs karjala: So are you going to let folks automatically watch their favorited modules on perlmodules.net?
20:06 karjala trs: that's the idea
20:06 karjala trs: are you a user there?
20:06 trs Not currently.
20:07 karjala is there any feature that if added would entice you to become a user?
20:07 trs I was just typing that. :)
20:07 trs I want to feed it a cpanfile and have it generate a feed I can watch.  and I want to be able to have more than one cpanfile.
20:08 trs basically, "watch the dependencies of this project"
20:08 trs doesn't have to be a cpanfile, per se, just a list of modules
20:09 trs but a way to have multiple lists, i.e. per project
20:09 karjala the problem with cpanfiles is that they are executable code, and hence would be a vulnerability if I ran them / evaluated them on the server. I would much rather create a small script which you could execute on your PC to generate a list of modules which you could then feed in the website
20:09 trs Oh man, I can already do this with what you have, can't I?
20:10 karjala 1) you already can feed a list of modules. Is that different than what you wanted?
20:10 * trs should have looked into it sooner
20:10 trs I thought I could only have one feed.
20:10 trs but I see I'm wrong.
20:10 karjala 2) You can have multiple feeds
20:10 trs I'm now a user!  Congrats :)
20:10 karjala hehe neat!
20:11 karjala You can receive email updates, as well
20:12 karjala updates by email
20:14 trs Nice interface.
20:15 trs (the review of modules -> dists mapping, and unchecking multiple when I uncheck something that maps to perl)
20:15 karjala hehe
20:16 karjala Do you think I'd have more registered users if I hired a designer to make it prettier?
20:16 trs I don't.  I think it's fairly pretty right now

20:40 karjala Is the metacpan userid constant for each user? Never changes?
20:40 karjala (stupid question, I guess)
20:46 xenu karjala: i really like design of that website, just one minor issue: when i login via github, login form displays your photo (which is your github avatar)
20:46 xenu it's weird, facebook doesn't show me zuckerberg's face ;)
20:47 karjala I guess that means I should create a new user just for perlmodules.net, and present its logo in the place of my photo
20:47 karjala ok
20:47 karjala I understand the issue
20:47 karjala or maybe i can change the image
20:48 xenu maybe it can be disabled just for login form?
20:52 karjala cool, github lets me choose my site's logo!
20:54 karjala I'll do that tomorrow
21:12 trs karjala: yes, constant.
21:13 karjala thx

21:42 karjala Do you think people might be interested in tracking changes to other people's metacpan favorites?
21:42 karjala Wondering if I should create only one "metacpan favorites" feed per user, or allow for more than one
21:44 karjala the latter would make the interface significantly more complicated
21:46 karjala Ah, I found a way.
21:46 karjala to make it simple
