19:47 haarg for head/item links, should we transform spaces into dashes, or just leave them as spaces?

20:16 haarg https://github.com/metacpan/metacpan-api/pull/608#issuecomment-269377069 comments welcome
20:23 Grinnz i think it's more common to have spaces replaced by dashes in general
20:25 Grinnz if only to avoid awkwardness of someone somehow copying a link with spaces instead of %20

23:15 haarg Grinnz: i think i agree ^
23:17 Grinnz cool. i assume these 'canonical' targets would be added after the current targets to avoid conflicts?
23:19 Grinnz like say... =head2 open($foo, $bar); then later =head2 open, #open would still go to the second one?
23:19 haarg no
23:21 haarg there are three target types.  first is the 'canonical' target.  i'm relaxing the filtering on that one, but it otherwise won't change much.
23:22 haarg third is the 'legacy' target.  this matches the old form, and exists mainly for existing external links.
23:23 haarg neither of those should cause any changes in linking that would break anything that wasn't already very fragile.
23:23 Grinnz it doesn't really matter to me (I just care about my L</foo> links), but to support legacy links wouldn't you need legacy to be first?
23:23 haarg the order doesn't matter much
23:23 haarg well, doesn't matter at all
23:23 Grinnz i mean for the situation i mentioned
23:23 haarg not for the things i just mentioned
23:24 Grinnz where #open currently goes to the heading 'open', but this adds one for the 'open' prefix on an earlier tag
23:24 haarg it would matter for the first-word links
23:24 Grinnz right, that one
23:24 haarg but doing that a different way would involve reparsing the html doc
23:24 haarg i'm not sure it's worth it
23:24 Grinnz possibly not
23:26 haarg i found several bugs in Pod::Simple::XHTML when making that PR :/
23:30 Grinnz is XHTML even necessary anymore?
23:30 Grinnz (don't know the state of Pod::Simple::HTML)
23:34 haarg whether the output is XHTML or not doesn't matter
23:34 haarg but it produces much better html than Pod::Simple::HTML
23:35 Grinnz fair
