14:47 haarg i think more changes will be needed for that - i removed the global session handling, so individual controllers have to handle auth if they need it.
15:06 ranguard recent not updating, but that's the same on s.c.o so probably upstream issue
16:48 autarch joined #metacpan
16:48 autarch has anyone in here created an internal mirror metacpan at $work? and if so, do you have any docs for how to do so?
16:56 autarch maybe we could just run https://github.com/metacpan/metacpan-developer somewhere?
16:57 autarch or not ... it wouldn't be a great solution for a long-running system, I think
16:58 autarch actually, maybe it's just not worth, metacpan is quite reliable, so just using the system as is is probably good enough
17:02 perigrin what are you trying to achieve?
17:07 autarch nothing important - I realized that mirroring it is _way_ overkill for my current needs
17:07 autarch on another note, updating profiles seems to be buggy
17:08 autarch I tried updating mine, it accepts the POST and shows the form with the new value, but then if I leave the profile editing page and come back, I don't see my changes
17:08 autarch ah, I see the problem
17:08 autarch "asciiname: asciiname is required"

17:20 metacpan left #metacpan
17:41 mickey autarch: i've created an intenal mirror... but i see you ditched the idea already :)
17:42 autarch yeah, I realized it's kind of silly for our needs - we just need to query metacpan to update info we maintain in our own internal repos, it's not really like we need this to be HA for some sort of external production use
17:44 autarch mickey: what's an example of an author where "extra" is populated?
17:45 autarch cause I can't find one, and there's no docs about what it is
17:45 simbabque hey, how do I log into metacpan-web to see my profile with the dev vm?
17:46 simbabque or rather _any_ user profile
17:47 mickey autarch: let me check
17:51 mickey hmm... i don't see such field in the mapping
17:51 mickey maybe a leftover in the client
17:54 autarch yeah, I'll delete it
17:55 mickey cool
18:08 mickey simbabque: i don't think you can... but maybe oalders can give a better answer on this one
18:08 mickey oalders: ^^
18:08 simbabque I was going to take a shot at fixing the bugs I found the other day
18:09 simbabque probably I need to manipulate the session to make it think I'm logged in
18:09 simbabque I hoped the tests would tell me, but all they had was a TODO with "write tests" xD
18:10 mickey haha
18:10 simbabque I'll figure it out mickey, no worries
18:10 simbabque when I have some time anyway
18:11 oalders mickey: $extra should be the free form data which an author can add to her AUTHOR.json
18:11 mickey cool, when you fix it please open a PR :)
18:11 simbabque I will
18:11 mickey oalders: oh, ok. didn't know - just looked at the mapping
18:12 mickey autarch: ^^ please don't delete 'extra'
18:12 oalders simbabque you may need to set up an OAuth client of your own to test it with
18:12 mickey oalders: do you know where we store it? or do i have to dig in ?
18:13 mickey (there's no 'extra' field in the 'author' type)
18:14 oalders I wonder if we silently started ignoring it
18:15 oalders i'm going to check a couple of authors
18:18 mickey it's still in Document::Author (api) ... somehow disappeared from the mapping
18:18 oalders ah
18:21 oalders mickey https://fastapi.metacpan.org/v1/author/BDFOY
18:21 oalders That has an "extra" key
18:23 mickey hmm... so _source has it regardless of the mapping... interesting

20:57 trs in the source file
20:57 autarch hmm, not gonna doc that right now
21:10 autarch what is $release->tests supposed to return?
21:11 autarch ah, I found an example

21:31 mickey autarch: had one comment, thanks for the effort.
21:31 mickey will be happy to release once that one is clarified
21:32 autarch I fixed it
21:33 autarch I honestly don't think that attribute is worth documenting at all, but that's up to you
21:36 mickey some where just mentioned to pass the pod check :)

22:01 mickey autarch: after the merge pod-syntax check fails with an odd message - complains about a missing =back but it's there (see dzil test)
22:02 mickey don't see anything weird white-space-wise or anything that should fail it
22:02 mickey it's right before the pod_lines, btw
22:02 simbabque autarch: were you running anything in the profile at all or just writing docs?
22:03 simbabque what I was going to try to fix is https://github.com/metacpan/metacpan-web/issues/1846 but one of your earlier messages sounded like you can't reproduce that problem (but you were not talking about it specifically)
22:05 neilb joined #metacpan
22:06 autarch mickey: it's definitely missing
22:06 autarch simbabque: what do you mean by "running anything in the profile"?
22:07 simbabque did I say that in the ticket?
22:07 autarch simbabque: you just asked me a question about 5 minutes ago
22:07 autarch "simbabque: autarch: were you running anything in the profile at all or just writing docs?"
22:07 simbabque oh
22:07 simbabque yes, wait
22:07 simbabque I need to understand what I wanted to ask :D
22:08 simbabque were you actually running the application and changing the profile through the ::Web catalyst?
22:09 autarch what? no, I just wrote some docs

22:10 simbabque for a moment I was paranoid that my bug only happens on my machine
22:10 simbabque because it sounded like it worked for you
22:10 simbabque I am still trying to get to the profile on the vm
22:11 autarch ah, I see what you're asking about - I was having trouble with the profile page on the prod site - the error styling after a form submission could be improved
22:11 autarch cause it's really easy to miss

22:11 simbabque yes that is true
22:12 simbabque but when you successfully update, is the form empty on production?
22:12 simbabque I had it even if I don't change anything, just saving is enough
22:12 autarch yes, it's empty after a succesful updat eon prod
22:12 simbabque thank god I thought I am imagining that
22:13 simbabque ok I'll try and fix that
22:13 simbabque once I get in ...
22:13 simbabque and I agree, the error message is really hard to see

22:21 simbabque where do the vm server logs go?
22:25 mickey simbabque: best to run it with plackup for getting proper visible log
22:26 simbabque I see
22:26 simbabque I halted the vm yesterday and now all the stuff seems to be down
22:26 simbabque nothing is workign any more
22:26 simbabque I'll reprovision it first
22:26 mickey try running puppet first - it's faster
22:27 simbabque too late :)
22:27 mickey :)
22:27 simbabque I tried installing it while in a train
22:27 simbabque I got until apt install vagrant...
22:27 simbabque :D
22:28 simbabque ok now it's working and I have web on 5001
22:28 simbabque how would I stop it to run it with log?
22:29 mickey sudo service starman_metacpan-web stop
22:30 mickey ./bin/run plackup -R lib/ -p 5001
22:30 mickey from ~/metacpan-web (of course)
22:31 simbabque thanks
22:31 mickey yw
22:32 simbabque haha, I can apparently log in with github
22:33 simbabque does this go against the prod api?
22:33 simbabque why does it know my real profile?
22:36 mickey your vm web instance is pointing to the production api by default
22:36 mickey you can change that in the config file
22:36 simbabque I think I found another bug... if extra is an empty string it throws a huge exception about the empty string not being valid JSON
22:43 simbabque mickey: do you care if the PR is from master or a branch?
22:43 simbabque and do you want me to do different PRs for individual stuff or can I include minor bugfixes like the one above along the line?
22:44 mickey assuming it's from a fork... why should i? :)
22:44 Grinnz https://metacpan.org/pod/Cpanel::JSON::XS seems to have gotten unindexed (seems fine in 02packages)
22:45 mickey simbabque: separate PRs are good
22:45 simbabque so one-line PR it is
22:45 simbabque :)
22:45 simbabque wow the tests take long
22:45 simbabque and that section I was in doesn't even have tests anyway
22:45 mickey simbabque: tidyall is your friend
22:46 simbabque my apartment could use that
22:46 mickey tell me about it :)
22:46 simbabque you have a wife
22:46 simbabque :P
22:47 mickey that only adds to the mess
22:47 simbabque I see
22:48 simbabque the cpanfile.snapshot got changed on its own
22:48 simbabque can I ignore that?
22:49 mickey yes
22:49 mickey you can check it out
22:53 mickey Grinnz: that's odd, but i think it's fixed now
22:54 mickey i see now it had a release today which probably failed to index... reindexing fixed it
22:57 simbabque how does that tidyall work? I ran tidyall -g and it said [checked] and the file
22:57 simbabque then when I commit it complains that one file needs tidying
22:58 mickey does it do the same if you: tidyall <filename>
22:58 mickey ?
22:59 simbabque ah now it said tidied
22:59 simbabque that's a useful thing, I didn't know it existed
23:00 simbabque lol it changed code that was already there...
23:00 simbabque now I have changes that I didn't make:)
23:15 simbabque when I set it up with my own api I get errors when I try to log in because it can't find stuff in the elastic search
23:15 simbabque I'll try more tomorrow
23:15 simbabque good night
