00:00 marcus fetching the title of 10.000 app homepages using the non blocking example from http://mojolicio.us/perldoc/Mojolicious/Guides/Cookbook#Web_Scraping

00:30 sri haha
00:31 sri just make sure not to overload the server
00:31 sri it's considered rude not to take breaks and might get you blocked
00:32 marcus sri: I am hitting a bunch of different servers tho
00:32 marcus sri: just one request per app.
00:32 sri oh, i see
00:33 sri very good use case then, lots of latency
00:34 marcus mm. hopefully there won't be too many app store links at the end.
00:34 marcus might have to add a per host delay.
00:36 marcus We get an office slave from 1. august.
00:36 sri maybe you'll find some fun new test cases for Mojo::DOM :)
00:37 marcus Want to make here go through all the apps and flag suspicious/outdated ones.
00:37 marcus sri: maybe. Just using it to get the first <h1> atm
00:37 marcus hmm, I should also print the page title.

03:00 xaka guys, i'm trying to start use websockets, but looks like there is some problem. I've downloaded xantus[] "echo" example and runned it. The last log message is "101 Switching Protocols" and client websocket status is always 0 (Chrome)
03:02 xaka i've tried it in Safari - it disconnectes client right after it connected
03:29 Foxcool joined #mojo
03:32 xaka mmmmm, looks like Mojo switched to the latest websocket specification too early. Chrome and Safari still use draft-ietf-hybi-thewebsocketprotocol-00
03:32 xaka they send Sec-WebSocket-Key1 and Sec-WebSocket-Key2 fields, but Mojo expects Sec-WebSocket-Key
03:33 xaka i believe there should be the check for Sec-WebSocket-Key1 and Sec-WebSocket-Key2 - if both are presented, use one implementation, if not - use the last
03:50 xaka ah, the same for web-socket-js, which is used in most of projects to fallback to Flash implementation
04:48 jwang joined #mojo
04:54 crab isn't key1/key2 vs. key a protocol version difference?

05:09 crab as sri has pointed out a few times, if someone wants to maintain a paarallel implementation of the old websocket standards, they can do so.
05:10 crab it's a pity that few browsers implement the current draft, but it's just a matter of time before they catch up.
05:11 xaka can do as a plugin of Mojo's core? because right now websocket in mojo is absolutely useless

09:33 sri and the EV backend is working too now, that means we'll support it out of the box in the next release :)
09:35 sri bye bye IO::Epoll and IO::KQueue
09:35 plu :)
09:36 crab are you preparing an epic release?
09:36 sri ye
09:36 sri ioloop is now 6 modules
09:37 sri and that's not counting the iowatchers
09:37 sri i'm trying the node.js eventemitter style
09:44 crab not committed yet?
09:44 sri nope, lots of documentation to write
09:52 sri something is very very wrong with lion though
09:52 henq joined #mojo
09:56 henq hi [newby to irc *and* mojolicious pls be gently] : I don't get embedded tempaltes to work. where do you put them? in main app package or controller?
09:56 sri by defult they are supposed to be in the "main" package
09:57 sri so neither MyApp nor MyApp::Controller would work out of the box
09:57 henq thx/ but in what file is that?
09:57 sri script/myapp i guess
09:57 sri you can change the class though
09:58 sri http://mojolicio.us/perldoc/Mojolicious/Renderer#default_template_class
09:58 henq thx, now I have something to read next to my mornng coffee
09:58 sri or when calling render you can pass a template_class stash value
09:59 sri like $self->render('foo', template_class => __PACKAGE__);
10:00 sri henq: but actually, for a real Mojolicious app i would suggest using template files in the templates directory ;)
10:00 henq oh thx; is there a shortcut for "this packagge"  (it seems to me logical to want to put the template in the controller class where you call the render)
10:00 sri embedded templates are better for lite apps
10:00 henq yeah, i understand, but for quicky testing..
10:00 sri no shortcut, it's a rather uncommon use case
10:01 henq okay, yes, and then you just would have 1 package/file
10:01 sri template_class => __PACKAGE__ is the shortest
10:01 henq thx
10:02 sri "quicky testing" sounds more like a Mojolicious::Lite kinda job :)
10:03 henq i meant; whithin the controller; whatever ..just discovering....
10:42 sri oh, umlauts are fun in lion
10:43 crab liön?
10:44 sri liön!

15:22 mspo the EV vs AnyEvent war
15:22 crab EV vs AnyEvent?
15:23 crab is that like the emacs vs. banana war?
15:24 mspo well I was writing something with AnyEvent::IRC and had a question in ##perl on freenode
15:24 mspo and got all kinds of snark about how EV was the way blah blahblah
15:24 mspo but people keep releasing AnyEvent modules, so who knows
15:24 crab the whole point of anyevent is that you can use whatever event loop you want.
15:25 sri anyevent was made for ev
15:25 crab including EV, which anyevent actually prefers and recommends
15:25 sri its only purpose is to make all other perl event loops look poor compared to ev
15:25 crab so an EV vs. AnyEvent "war" makes no sense, especially since they were both written by the same erson, even.

20:14 sri however, i've thought about putting cache into its own module
20:16 yko sri: i din't see way how it's possible to implement usage of different net interfaces (ie IPs) without touching _connect and _cache
20:17 yko well, say, it's possible without _cache, but i'm not sure what is worse: use private _connect or re-implement it in own code
20:18 sri just making it public won't work, it really needs to fit into the api
20:19 yko well, i believe you can find best solution
20:19 sri my main focus is mongodb again now i'm afraid :/
20:21 sri anyway, maybe it helps if i tell you what i've been thinking about
20:21 sri i would really like to have a modular connection layer
20:22 sri bit like LWP::Protocol, but non-blocking
20:22 sri so socks and stuff could be simple extensions
20:23 yko my main wish is to be able to manipulate connection and change params finaly passed to IOLoop->connect
20:24 sri i'm not opposed to that either, but we need a clean solution
20:24 yko ok, if i ever find one ill show it to you

20:26 sri well, then use the private methods
20:26 yko my stuff that uses _cache and _connect was damaged only at 1.59 which is actually surprised to me
20:26 sri that can happen

20:41 sri you could subclass that
20:42 yko hmm. sounds interesting
