02:17 marty concerning Mongo or Couch, it seems like they both have positives and negatives.  (no surprise there)
02:21 marty Both seem to be well suited for different tasks.  But it would be difficult to make a choice unless the application parameters were clearly defined.
02:23 marty In that case, I'd choose Couch for mobile apps and Mongo for general purpose use. or so

08:09 sri wow, lots of mongodb rants this weekend
08:09 sri but it seems like they were all just hitting bugs in older versions
08:34 sri hmm, this all seems to prove the point that mongodb is the mysql of nosql databases

10:11 crab what point does it make? that a bunch of logos in a long scrolly table is cool?
10:22 sri that it works very well for many use cases
10:24 sri so far the only cases i've seen where it didn't work were write heavy message bus systems with 30k+ writes/s
10:24 sri and i doubt those would work too well with most databases
10:26 * marty yawns
10:26 crab is yawning a use case?
10:26 marty I watched the craigslist guy talk about his experience with migrating to mongo, very informative.   http://www.10gen.com/presentations/mongosf2011/craigslist
10:27 marty Yes, I plan to yawn during migration from mysql.  :)

17:54 sri ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD!
17:55 sri marcus: btw. i heard method call and deref are different operators, so they could be changed independently

20:35 metaperl speaking on Mongo rants ... http://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/m2b2b/dont_use_mongodb/
20:49 sri umm, that's what we've been talking about all day
20:55 marcus $sri 8=D $metaperl
20:55 metaperl oh ... 8=D I dont understand ... is that supposed to be a shovel?
20:55 marcus 19:04:06 @marcus ~ the dick operator!
20:56 metaperl lol
20:56 * sri hits marcus with a shovel
20:57 marcus better than hitting me with a dick, I suppose.
20:57 metaperl I personally have a brain wired to think in relational terms. I tried MongoDB for just a little bit, but having everything smished into one entity and not knowing when to split into another was pure hell... sheer insanity
20:57 * marty opens the alligator pit door
20:57 * marcus pushes marty in
20:57 metaperl we have plenty of alligators here in South Florida :)
20:57 marty heheh
20:58 marty metaperl:  It took me a while to get used to doing thing in a document way also.   For some things, it's great, but for others, RDBMS is better.
21:00 metaperl anyone want to clean up my hackish ::Lite app - https://github.com/metaperl/cleartrader/blob/master/index.cgi  ... any feedback is welcome :)
21:01 marty But I will take a schemeless datastore any day over an RDBMS that uses EAV  :)
21:02 marcus marty: why not use mojolicious built in mode support, and store urls in mode specific configs?
21:03 marty metaperl:  uppercase variable names?  tsk tsk.   :P
21:03 metaperl I dont think I have any uppercase variable names marcus
21:03 metaperl i mean marty
21:03 marty marcus:  I don't follow.  :(
21:03 marcus metaperl: implicit returns are icky.
21:04 marcus marty: it was actually feedback for metaperl
21:04 marty ahhh, ok. :)
21:04 metaperl oh I think I'm a functional programmer... I'm big on implicit returns :)
21:04 metaperl I'm a functional programmer who never quite made it into haskell
21:04 metaperl never could quite make it in the big leagues with fp
21:05 marcus metaperl: In auto_inviter you assign to a variable then implicit return that variable
21:05 marcus you could just return instead
21:05 * metaperl checks
21:06 metaperl hmm I never know what context that would create for the call to ->sqlrowhash
21:06 metaperl someone really needs to write a monadic layer over DBIx::Array since we never are sure about database returning 0 or 1 or many results
21:07 marcus metaperl: or you could just use sql::simple and get predictable return values
21:07 metaperl i've never heard of SQL::Simple
21:08 metaperl you mean DBIx::Simple?
21:08 marcus yeah
21:08 metaperl no I parted ways with that module
21:08 marcus there is a sql::simple, but I meant dbix-simple :)
21:08 marcus why?
21:09 metaperl "method chaining fails where separate method calls succeed in DBIx::Simple" - http://www.perlmonks.org/?node_id=918585
21:09 metaperl I started that thread
21:09 marcus I thought you forked the module after that ;)
21:09 metaperl I was going to ... I also expressed by dissatisfaction with the maintenance here - http://qs343.pair.com/~monkperl/index.pl?node_id=917878
21:10 metaperl and DBIx::Array does what I need so I use that
21:11 marcus there's another simple dbi wrapper as well, trying to remember what it was called.
21:11 metaperl he lists the similar modules here - https://metacpan.org/module/DBIx::Array#The-Competition
