11:16 MojoGuest133 hi
11:20 memowe hi!
11:21 MojoGuest133 have you worked on websockets?
11:21 memowe not more than really simple test scripts
11:22 memowe But here are more experienced people.
11:22 memowe Just ask. :)
11:22 MojoGuest133 how can I get connected to the right people who are exploring HTML5 features
11:27 Quai stackoverflow.com might be a goodplace to start, or sites like dev.opera.com and developer.mozilla.org
11:27 marcus MojoGuest133: or just ask some specific questions :p
11:34 MojoGuest133 I am trying to understand the security constraints in WebSockets
11:35 memowe btw, O'Reilly will give me any book because I won some kind of a quiz. Any recommendations?
11:35 memowe I'm thinking of the new llama book for my mom (she learns Perl with me).
11:36 memowe But she'll get it for only 25 bucks, so maybe there are better books for me. :)
11:36 marcus http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9780596521448.do ;)
11:37 marcus I actually enjoyed http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9780596517748.do
11:44 memowe Hehe, Rails. :)
11:45 memowe OK, I already know JS the good parts. :)
11:45 memowe So my mom gets her llama book. :)
11:46 memowe Thanks marcus!

18:46 tempire I want to work for that company
18:46 tempire 2 months before they realized he didn't know anything?
18:53 ZadYree I need help on a problem I am facing: When I open the page I'm working on, the utf8 chars contained in the page are printd properly. However, <%== $content %> doesn't seem to handle utf8 chars. Here is the page code: http://pastebin.com/efF2rGMR
18:55 kaare joined #mojo
18:57 sri it's either utf8 bytes, or perl chars, not utf8 chars
18:58 ZadYree hum, I don't see how to correct this

18:59 ZadYree since the rest of the page is printed properly

19:05 sri purl: perl unicode?
19:05 purl wish i knew, sri
19:05 sri purl: unicode?
19:05 purl i think unicode is almost done. Four sections to go. or http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/Unicode.html or stable or http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/search.htm or ⚑☭Ⓐ or the suck or µñíçø∂∑ or ISO/IEC 10646 or http://dev.catalyst.perl.org/new-wiki/gettingstarted/tutorialsandhowtos/using_unicode or a large factoid for being a typo
19:06 sri all i can tell you is that templates expect perl characters
19:06 elb0w You know whats awesome
19:07 elb0w I get to use HTML::Template AND mod_perl!!!
19:07 elb0w after using mojo for a month
19:07 elb0w this is going to be so excccccccccccccciting
19:07 sri that's gonna hurt
19:07 ZadYree hum
19:09 ZadYree well, in the html sourcepage, it's the same char (é) for ex
19:09 ZadYree encoding a block char by char may make me lose too much perf :(
19:10 sri ZadYree: do you know the difference between chars and bytes in perl yet?
19:10 sri in the context of unicode
19:10 ZadYree not at all
19:10 ZadYree unicode takes 2 bytes
19:11 sri ok, i highly recommend dropping everything and reading tutorials for it
19:12 sri otherwise you'll stumble over this over and over again
19:12 sri we had a really good link to slides for the topic… hmm
19:12 ZadYree okay
19:13 ZadYree the catalyst link doesn't seem to work
19:13 sri http://www.slideshare.net/Penfold/perl-and-unicode
19:13 ZadYree ok ty
19:13 sri that one was good i think
19:15 sri that's for stage one, when you think you have understood it
19:16 sri let me look for the stage two link
19:16 ZadYree ok thanks :D
19:16 ZadYree I like the way those slides are written
19:17 ZadYree Why the hell are people still coding in Perl 4 ^^
19:17 mikegrb people are dumb
19:18 sri http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6162484/why-does-modern-perl-avoid-utf-8-by-default/6163129#6163129
19:18 sri stage is two is realizing that you still have no fucking clue what's going on :)
19:18 sri s/is//
19:19 ZadYree haha indeed
19:20 netfeed i wish you could just work on text, i don't want to care about encodings, i just want to have some text do stuff to it and then output it
19:22 sri perldoc perlunicode looks rather good too
19:23 ZadYree ok my perl 5.12 may not me enuff
19:25 ZadYree Well, it seems implementing auto utf-8 really is a pain in the ass, for everybody? Am I wrong?
19:26 sri once you realize that it's just bytes vs characters things get easier
19:27 sri as far as you're concerned characters have no encoding
19:28 ZadYree in my head, chars were just the printed result or different-sized bytes :S

19:36 sri purl: perl unicode is http://www.slideshare.net/Penfold/perl-and-unicode and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6162484/why-does-modern-perl-avoid-utf-8-by-default/6163129#6163129
19:36 purl OK, sri.
19:36 sri no
19:36 nightmare Anyone tried to make a site with Mojo docs indexed(SWISH-e) ?  Feel like I jump around a lot looking for stuff.
19:37 sri there is no such thing as automatic unicode handling
19:37 * ZadYree sheds a tear.
19:38 ccushing is there no way besides MOJO_CONFIG to set the location of the config file?
19:39 jmhgtx Hi,  I have an HTTP::Response object ($result) and I'm attempting to call $self->render( text => $result->content, status => $result->code ); .   When I dump the $result before calling render(), the content is a json string that I'm looking for and the code is 201.  However, when I dump the result of the $self->response() call in a test file, I'm getting  400 with '400 URL must be absolute'.    Any idea why the call to render() is (appears to be) changing th
19:39 jmhgtx e information?
19:44 ccushing using MOJO_CONFIG seems like a bad idea because I have more than 1 app running in the same environment

19:51 diegok jmhgtx: https://gist.github.com/1561712
19:52 diegok jmhgtx: why do you have an HTTP::Response, are you proxying some API?
19:52 jmhgtx Yes
19:52 diegok jmhgtx: you can probably use UA embeded in mojo then...
19:54 jmhgtx The thing that's really odd is I've got some tests that pass just fine and some that fail because the call to render is changing everything.
19:54 diegok jmhgtx: but that's another thing... I just tested that gist and it does what you want, so, the problem shouldn't be on the render() call.
19:54 jmhgtx Thanks for your response. I'll check out the mojo UA.
19:55 jmhgtx I just tried what you pasted and nothing changed for me.
19:55 sri 'URL must be absolute' is a string that does not appear anywhere in mojolicious
19:56 diegok sri: ?
19:57 sri "...I'm getting  400 with '400 URL must be absolute'..."
19:57 diegok jmhgtx: tried exactly that or just added the format thingy?
19:58 diegok sri: yes, I was about to suggest to check $response->is_success
19:58 diegok jmhgtx: ^
19:58 jmhgtx I did both actually and both return the exact same response.
19:58 diegok jmhgtx: what sri've said ^^^
19:59 jmhgtx I'm dumping the result of the response object and got  _rc => 400
20:00 jmhgtx That's the response in the test file.
20:01 diegok jmhgtx: I would start asking about mojo version, but given that string doesn't came from mojo...
20:03 jmhgtx Ok. Thanks for your assistance.
