09:05 tempire it's amazing to me that it took the industry so long to realize that xml was not a good format for serialization
09:05 tempire so json is clearly the superior choice.
09:05 tempire and then http://shinkirou.org/blog/2010/06/s-expressions-the-fat-free-alternative-to-json/ reveals that s-expressions were better all along.
09:05 * tempire wonders why he never realized it himself
09:06 * tempire bows to mccarthy
09:10 crab heh, it seems surprising to me that it's a surprise to anyone.
09:11 * tempire repents of all former sins

15:24 marcus yay
15:24 Netfeed grats
15:24 Netfeed think about the speed you can download porn in now :P
15:26 sri actually, my first thought was about xcode updates not ruining my day anymore ;p
15:27 Netfeed heh, what did you went from?
15:28 sri 7mbit
15:28 Netfeed nice change
15:29 sri also mostly from copper to fiber
15:30 sri only like 50 meters are copper
15:32 Netfeed a friend will apperently get 1gbit, i wonder what the point of that is, i don't use close to my 100mbit
15:41 marcus streaming multiple blueray movies in parallel? :)
15:41 Netfeed heh, yeah
15:41 Netfeed have a server farm in the closet
15:42 Netfeed marcus: how's the eyes?
15:42 marcus Netfeed: healing.
15:42 marcus vision is already improved, but not perfect yet, as expected.
15:42 Netfeed got any fun drugs to use after the operation?
15:43 marcus got some painkillers, but haven't needed any so far.
15:43 marcus Also got a bunch of eye drops, have to used them every 2 hours while I'm awake
15:44 marcus and I have to stay in the hotel room until monday to avoid infections.
15:45 memowe Good news! :) Seems I just fixed ORLite.
15:45 Netfeed are you allowed to sleep "on your face"?
15:46 marcus they didn't say anything aobut
15:46 marcus about it.
15:46 marcus they inserted protective lenses in my eyes
15:46 Netfeed ah
15:56 marty marcus: did you have both eyes done at the same time?
15:57 marcus marty: yes
15:57 sri was it as horrible as one would expect?
15:57 memowe marcus: I missed that. Wish you the best for your eyes. :)
15:58 marcus sri: nah, it was fun.
15:58 sri Oo
15:58 marcus interesting laser patterns projected on the eyes
15:58 marty sounds like you are doing great, marcus.  Cannot wait to hear how you can see right through womens clothing in a few weeks.  :P
15:58 marcus marty: that will be useful :)
15:59 marcus marty: I liked http://chzsomuchpun.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/funny-puns-thanks-lasik.jpg
15:59 marty :)  That's funny
15:59 sri :D
16:00 * marty keeps his distance from cyclops, errr, marcus
16:01 marty sounds like marcus has a few days to kill in the hotel room.  hurry, sri, crack the whip!  :)
16:01 marcus have to rest my my eyes, bbl :p
16:02 marty take it easy marcus.  congratulations on the new eyes.
16:02 marcus ty
16:03 marty I think I'm going to have to do the lasik thing one day, but just not sure when to take the plunge.

16:25 Akron memowe: What was wrong with ORLite?
16:26 memowe It was impossible to set sqlite_unicode without injecting a new connect method.
16:26 sri http://senseidb.com/ # oh, another new nosql database with fulltext search
16:27 memowe Akron: my fix is already in Alias__'s repository ready for review.
16:27 sri hmm… i'm already getting tired of the bootstrap look :S
16:28 memowe eh eh eh
16:29 Akron memowe: Ah, thanks. In my simple sqlite driver I activated unicode by default and there is no non dbd::sqlite-variant to deactivate it.

16:48 marty senseidb looks interesting.   Full text search is definitely something I would love to see in Mongodb
16:51 marty but, I have really come to like some of the Mongodb syntax such as '$push' and '$addToSet'
16:52 sri new aggregation stuff in mongodb looks interesting too
16:52 sri http://www.mongodb.org/display/DOCS/Aggregation+Framework # in the next version
17:00 marty I had not heard about aggregation in mongodb, looks shiny.

17:34 diegok Hello. Has anyone faced and solved this same issue marcus has reportes a while back -> http://irclog.perlgeek.de/mojo/2011-10-20#i_4593452 ?
17:35 marcus diegok: probably means you have a broken EV installation.
17:35 diegok marcus: yes, is a coworker using homebrew+perlbrew
17:36 diegok marcus: what I was wondering is why does he see that error if he doesn't have EV at all.
17:37 marcus diegok: are you sure he hasn't force installed EV?
17:37 kamu joined #mojo
17:37 diegok marcus: he has forced it after seeing this error.
17:38 diegok now he has a broken EV installation :)
17:38 marcus diegok: seems unlikely. Mojo doesn't try to use the EV watcher unless you have the module.
17:38 diegok but I'm pretty sure he got that error without EV (mojo version reported EV not installed)
17:38 kamu marcus : hi
17:38 marcus kamu: hi
17:38 kamu marcus: i'm the coworker :)
17:39 kamu we found you faced the same issue
17:39 kamu cpanm is failing EV installation
17:39 sri diegok: how would we report the version of EV was broken>
17:39 sri s/o/i/
17:40 sri if you force install EV you're screwed
17:40 diegok sri: yes!, I know.
17:40 kamu libev/ev.c:924:3: error: #error "memory fences not defined for your architecture, please report"
17:40 kamu make: *** [EV.o] Error 1
17:40 kamu -> FAIL Installing EV failed. See /Users/kamu/.cpanm/build.log for details.
17:40 diegok sri: but he doesn't has EV at all
17:40 sri no pasting please
17:40 kamu ok
17:40 marcus kamu: I had a broken EV install when I reported this issue.
17:40 sri he has EV
17:41 sri obviously
17:41 diegok sri: I'm calling mojo version and seeing EV (Not installed)
17:41 sri mojo version lies
17:42 diegok sri: oh!, that would explain... I'll delete it so.
17:42 sri it only detects that it can't find a version
17:43 diegok sri: ok, that's make's me to look a bit further.
17:43 diegok thanks :)
17:46 diegok sri & marcus: in deed, he had a broken EV. Deleted and mojo problem fixed :)
17:47 sri don't force install unless you know what you're doing
17:47 kamu thanks
17:47 sri especially not fragile xs modules

22:19 auggy howdy! i'm having some issues configuring mojolicious and the message i'm getting to ~/.cpanm/build.log is telling me to see ~/.cpamn/build.log lol
22:20 tempire perl ver?
22:20 auggy 5.14
22:21 auggy 5.14.2
22:21 tempire platform?
22:21 auggy so i've got perl in subdir along with cpanm and everything else
22:21 auggy debian
22:21 auggy i'll tell you what version in a sec
22:21 auggy i think the issue is more that i'm not using a standard install path
22:22 auggy i'm installing using cpanm Mojolicious
22:22 tempire sounds plausible.  I don't remember the last time anyone had trouble installing Mojolicious.
22:22 auggy "cpanm -i Mojolicious"
22:22 auggy yeah this is my first time trying to do it this way haha
22:23 auggy i'm not getting anything useful in .cpanm/build.log, is there somewhere else i could look for a clue?
22:23 sri other modules install fine?
22:23 auggy yep
22:23 sri weird
22:23 * tempire blames the gnomes
22:23 auggy haha if i figure it out i'll post the solution
22:24 auggy i'm using this nifty tool called smartcd to customize PATH and other ENV vars per directory
22:24 auggy http://smartcd.github.org
22:25 auggy so basically i'm creating a directory that contains everything so i don't pollute the rest of the system since it's using a different Perl version etc
