05:45 ask sri: that looks excellent, thank you!  I redid https://github.com/devel/PowerDNS-API with Mojolicious (it was Dancer before) mostly to make it easier to distribute it as an application (vs a bunch of "Perl stuff") and this helps a lot.

07:53 MisterHatt hey guys, I don't suppose anyone can come up with a reason to use sinatra over mojo other than "devs already know ruby"?
07:55 MisterHatt workign with a large amount of JSON data and trying to convince business-guy manager that it's a good idea to use mojolicious for the frontend of this site instead of sinatra

13:47 sri wow, dynamic boolean ops are awesome
13:55 sri if only it wasn't crashing constantly
14:03 MisterHatt hey sri, any chance you have a convincing argument for sinatra over mojolicious in production?
14:04 sri MisterHatt: don't drag me into arguments like that
14:04 MisterHatt not so much an argument as my boss has 3 developers who know ruby but I designed the system around perl, and I need to justify it
14:27 jnap MisterHatt:  I'm mostly just a lurker here, but if I built an application and it worked, I think I would start by saying it works :)
14:27 jnap is your boss saying s/he can't maintain the Perl app because of lack of developers?
14:42 lbr i had a client with that problem - a perl app and a couple of noisy ruby devs - now they're running buggy rails apps
14:45 MisterHatt jnap: pretty much
14:45 MisterHatt I said "if the developers are good, they shouldn't have too much trouble transitioning to perl"
14:45 MisterHatt rails just confuses me, it's overengineered
14:45 MisterHatt sinatra isn't too bad though
14:46 MisterHatt but given the data the app needs to deal with, the fastest JSON implementation wins for me
14:46 MisterHatt I dont know why exactly they're expecting me to design their API/frontend/processing software really
14:49 mire joined #mojo
14:50 jnap MisterHatt:  this is probably off topic for this channel, but I guess the issue seems like you know perl, got asked to do something, did it in perl (possible without talking about that a lot) and now you have trouble because not many others know perl and they (being rails / sinatrao types) probably have a lot of negativity about it?
14:53 sri why not rewrite it in python so everybody is equally unhappy? :)
14:54 inokenty =)
14:54 MisterHatt sri: I suggested that and now I have to buy the team drinks on friday
14:54 MisterHatt jnap: I did explain my reasoning for perl, but it didn't make them any happier about it
14:55 MisterHatt probably expected seeing as I'm a contractor from The Outside or whatever
14:55 jnap I think you have a hard situation to be honest
14:55 jnap your ruby people are never going to want to do Perl
14:56 jnap if you figure out how to crack that, I'd love to hear about it
14:56 MisterHatt jnap: probably something like "do the frontend in sinatra then and offload the processing to something faster"
14:56 jnap I think really it would have been better to have the Perl talk before writing the code, rather than afterward
14:57 MisterHatt oh I explained it first
14:57 MisterHatt the API is written but the rest isnt
14:57 jnap possible.  but the ruby people are also not going to be happy to here that ruby is too slow :)
14:57 MisterHatt I wonder if I can wrangle some message queue from the ruby frontend to a perl processing app, they should be happy enough witht hat
14:57 MisterHatt Mojo::JSON is so nice
14:58 jnap good luck!
14:58 purl You'll need it.
14:58 * sri pats purl
14:58 purl don't mess with me
14:59 MisterHatt aha, thanks
15:00 MisterHatt as I notice there are no fancy job queueing systems for perl
15:00 MisterHatt celery for python, resque for ruby, but nothing nice in perl
15:02 sri lets pretend theschwartz and friends never existed?
15:02 sri perl had them before they were cool
15:04 MisterHatt is theschwartz still updated? I thought it died long ago
15:04 MisterHatt along with everything else six apart did
15:09 jnap well it still works
15:09 jnap maybe it no longer does what you need it to do?
15:12 MisterHatt I havent used it in ages
15:12 MisterHatt so not sure, but I know there was a reason I started ignoring queues for a whike

17:59 sri tempire: sketch 2 is a free upgrade, you should visit the app store ;)
18:00 sri aside from bugs, it is pretty damn great
18:04 tempire I know!
18:04 tempire exciting
18:04 purl exciting is good enough.
18:04 tempire interesting write up about it
18:06 tempire the goal being to replace the new guys need for photoshop

18:11 sri did you ask them about it yet? maybe it's a known bug
18:11 tempire no, my illustrator trial was just fine.  it's expired now, though, so I guess it's time
18:12 tempire oh, neat templates
18:12 sri their support is pretty good, i always send in svg images that don't work and next release they work :)
18:17 tempire ok, now yapc is sold out for realz
18:17 tempire everyone who wanted to see my talk, but can't: TOO BAD!!!!!!
18:17 tempire :)
18:18 sri :(
18:19 sri style presets and linked styles are cool

18:53 dch is there any way to return as array the result of a Mojo::UA res->body, or should I split it myself?
18:54 dch its a text result $github->get($pull_req{patch_url})->res->body
19:06 tempire you'll have to split it accordingly
19:06 tempire split "\n" => $github->get($pull_req{patch_url})->res->body
19:11 dch @tempire: thanks, I'd hoped I could do something tidier. BTW I <3 your mojocasts! I hope your YAPC talk is videoed
19:13 tempire :)
19:13 tempire I'd recommend putting that split into a separate sub, to keep it easy to read, btw
