05:42 garu rwstauner: oh wait, you're co-maint now? If so, just release it, nevermind what I said on twitter :)
05:42 garu otherwise just let me know via pull-req or anything
05:43 rwstauner ok, i'd be glad to release it, thanks
05:43 rwstauner is there a canonical github repo?
05:43 rwstauner vti's?
05:43 purl vti's is the best, but they all lack a certain flair
05:43 rwstauner purl: good answer
05:43 purl i think good answer is "up your nose, with a rubber hose!"

05:44 garu rwstauner: the current version is sync'd to mine and vti's I think
05:44 garu let me check
05:45 garu rwstauner: nope. purl is right (as usual). vti's is the current version
05:45 rwstauner ok
05:45 * garu goes to delete his own branch
05:46 garu rwstauner: I have rw access to vti's branch, so feel free to send a pull request there
05:47 rwstauner ok

05:48 rwstauner indeed
05:49 garu (just making sure, I'm back from a bachelor's party and not exactly sober right now :)
05:49 rwstauner np :-)
05:50 garu brilliant. I'm also not sure why my $VERSION was the same from marcus'. Probably an oversight on my account, the previous release was a bit rushed, sorry
05:52 rwstauner np, forked from vti instead of marcus
05:52 rwstauner although i probably wouldn't have renamed the dist

15:53 marcus rwstauner: given that it's been broken for a while, I doubt there's a backcompat issue.
15:54 rwstauner i wouldn't say that as people often have old versions installed for a while, however mojo dists that old have long been back-panned so that makes it a bit more difficult as well :-)
15:55 rwstauner considering the current list of plugins out there (and since we've already had a rename) i am in favor of switching the dist name
15:59 rwstauner i did that few minutes ago in Makefile.PL and since then i've been building the dist and fixing issues (like adding things to MANIFEST.SKIP)
15:59 rwstauner boy do i miss dist-zilla
16:00 crab why do you miss dist-zilla?
16:02 rwstauner because if this dist was using dist-zilla it would have been released an hour ago
16:02 rwstauner eumm has too many manual steps
16:06 crab i see.
16:07 rwstauner dzil makes it much harder for me to create a dist that's borked
16:08 rwstauner i've already made half a dozen edits to the repo that dzil just does automatically so i never have to think about them
16:09 rwstauner mostly i'm just lazy and stupid, but dzil doesn't make me feel bad about... dzil likes me anyway
16:09 * rwstauner loves that big robot dinosaur
16:13 crab what sort of changes?
16:13 crab (i've never used dist-zilla, except as an end-user who wants to install a package, and has to install 1e6 dzil plugins)
16:14 rwstauner manually managing the $VERSION in all included modules (necessary now that both had them and cpan is currently confused)
16:14 rwstauner i added a test script to make sure that the versions are in sync
16:15 rwstauner after trying to get a tarball from EUMM i keep finding things i need to add to MANIFEST.SKIP
16:15 rwstauner and again to .gitignore
16:15 rwstauner i modified the load/compile test since it was only testing 1 module
16:16 rwstauner dzil gives me all those things for free
16:16 rwstauner not to mention a few dozen other nice features, dist checks, etc

16:24 bizb hey guys
16:25 bizb looking to replace our custom mod_perl app with mojolicious
16:25 bizb but i need help wrapping my head around how I can transalate a mod_perl handler into mojolicious
16:25 bizb no templates in framework.  strickly render to json or xml
16:26 bizb I see I can have a custom handler (which is promising)
16:26 bizb also have the various hooks via "hook"
16:27 crab bizb: i can try to help, but it would help if you asked more specific questions
16:27 bizb ok
16:27 bizb i have a mod_perl framework
16:27 bizb for delivering data
16:28 bizb i want to decouple from mod_perl
16:28 bizb and move this framework inside of mojolicious
16:28 bizb i'm not trying to build a website
16:28 crab ok.
16:29 bizb so i'm more interested in hooks and internals than, "hey this is how build pages and routes in mojo"
16:29 bizb as I'll be doing custom stuff
16:29 Britzel joined #mojo
16:29 bizb I just want the decoupling and the power to get stuff done
16:30 bizb so in mod_perl, you create a handler that passed you a request
16:30 bizb and you're off
16:30 bizb (for the main handler)
16:30 bizb then you build a request and blah blah
16:30 bizb now a lot of this is abstracted which is awesome
16:30 crab yep.
16:31 bizb I will have a custom controller I figure that will do its own dispatching
16:31 bizb currently we return data then transform that data into xml or json
16:32 crab what will your custom dispatcher do?
16:41 crab test if client can gzip is based on Accept-Encoding: deflate?

19:31 Stu Hi guys. I'm trying to write a little project using Mojo for the first time and I'm a little stuck with what I think is a fairly basic concept.
19:32 Stu I've got a couple of controllers (Artists, Tracks), and the way it currently works is that my app can receive a new track object (using DBIx::Class for DB stuff) that should be linked to an Artist
19:33 Stu The problem I encountered at first was where the Artist didn't exist in the database. In an attempt to be clever I decided to add a method called "get_or_create_artist" in my Artist module.
19:34 Stu With a bit of messing around I got this bit working. That is, until I tried to insert the new artist into the database, at which point I realised my helper is no longer available.
19:34 Stu Can anyone tell me how I should normally be interacting between controllers within my app to allow myself access to all the Mojo sexiness?
19:35 Stu I have searched a bit, and it seems someone else was asking the same question back in April, but received no reply: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!searchin/mojolicious/call$20another$20controller$20action/mojolicious/Vj5LvxmnLE4/oFMaq2V2IhwJ
19:35 sri \o
19:36 sri he basically asked the wrong question
19:36 sri that kinda method just doesn't belong in the controller, you keep it with the model classes
19:37 Stu I see.
19:38 sri and the few that don't fit in the model layer become real helpers
19:38 sri http://mojolicio.us/perldoc/Mojolicious/Guides/Rendering#Helpers
19:39 sri http://mojolicio.us/perldoc/Mojolicious/Guides/Rendering#Adding_helpers
19:39 Stu It did feel wrong when I was writing it
19:40 Stu I was suddenly having to write methods that returned data rather than rendered data, but I was sticking them in the same file. :|
19:40 d4rkie joined #mojo
19:40 Stu At a basic level I guess I knew I was doing it wrong at that point.
19:40 sri yea, and depending on your routes they may even have been exposed to the outside workd
19:40 sri *world
19:41 sri a /:controller/:action route can reach any real method in any controller ;)
19:41 Stu I've avoided any :controller :action placeholders in my routes so far
19:42 sri that's good, they are mostly just for quick hacks
19:42 Stu I can see how they would save me typing so much in a few places, but I don't think I need them
19:45 diegok Stu: you should probably add that kind of methods to your Artist ResultSet class
19:46 diegok Stu: but not this method, as it already exists -> http://search.cpan.org/dist/DBIx-Class/lib/DBIx/Class/ResultSet.pm#find_or_create

20:11 marcus sri: blaming me for the confusion isn't very fair.
20:12 tempire no mitmproxy found in homebrew
20:21 tempire can't install non-system python via brew either
20:21 tempire boo

20:23 diegok "sudo pip install mitmproxy" has worked here...
20:24 tempire my python installation must be borked
20:24 diegok (now looking pythonbrew)
20:24 tempire apparently pythonz is the hip new pythonbrew
20:24 diegok :-/
20:25 diegok those guys don't know about naming?
20:25 diegok well... they use spaces as code... what can one ask from them !?
20:25 diegok :(
20:27 sri marcus: i wasn't serial
20:29 diegok well, pythonz has list command for available pythons... a big improvement over pythonbrew...
20:30 tempire it was probably inspired by perlbrew before perlbrew had that.

21:41 Stu I've hit a slightly complicated problem.
21:41 Stu I have tracks
21:41 Stu and those tracks can be linked to other tracks
21:41 Stu I'm using the TO_JSON method of my App::Schema::Result::Blah modules for rendering the responses
21:42 Stu but when two tracks are linked the response would have both tracks in it
21:42 Stu and each one of those responses would contain the other track again
21:42 Stu and so I would be in an infinite loop
21:43 Stu I'm wondering if there's any simple way to determine what level I'm at in the TO_JSON method.
21:45 Stu Ah crap. I just dumped $self from TO_JSON and my error_log is still growing.
22:00 tempire when dumping something to json, don't dump objects.  dump copied hashes.  for dbic, something like get_columns
22:05 Stu Isn't that kind of what the T_JSON support is for?
22:05 Stu http://grep.cpan.me/?q=TO_JSON+dist=Mojolicious

22:27 diegok Stu: no
22:30 tempire Stu: $self->render_json({$dbic_row_object->get_columns});
22:30 Stu Which will render everything I have in my table
22:30 Stu Whereas with TO_JSON being called I can choose what is rendered, and how.
22:30 Stu to a certain extent
22:33 Stu I've prevented the infinite loop by rendering the actual key value instead of the inflated object in the TO_JSON, but that's not really ideal because it'll require additional calls to get the information. :|
22:34 tempire hmm.  mitmproxy doesn't seem to want to capture traffic generated from a terminal, even with the ssl proxy settings set in the osx network panel.
22:34 * tempire wonders what he's missing
22:34 Stu Make sure you're not connected to a different host in your terminal ;)
22:39 tempire wat
