00:18 bpmedley Thoughts on this as a start for a Mojolicious app tutorial: https://gist.github.com/4191717
00:22 sri bpmedley: lots of redundant information
00:22 bpmedley sri: From the other documentation?
00:23 sri fun fact, i originally added Mojolicious::Lite because it makes documentation examples much smaller and easier to follow :)
00:23 sri yes
00:23 sri bpmedley: what's the goal of the tutorial?
00:24 bpmedley sir: What about the earlier point in #perl about the lack of a Mojolicous app tutorial?
00:24 sri i don't think we should target people that ignore the documentation anyway
00:24 sri pointers at Mojolicious::Controller are like at the start of the lite tutorial
00:25 bpmedley Hrmm.  Is it work fixing?
00:25 bpmedley *worth
00:25 sri yet, he didn't know where to look
00:25 sri fixing?
00:25 bpmedley Do you think a Mojolicious tutorial is warranted?
00:26 sri i don't think so, but i'm often wrong
00:26 bpmedley sir: It's cool.  I may turn it into a blog post or somesuch.
00:27 sri oh, was that a proposal for core?
00:27 sri then it's a clear no i'm afraid, due to too much duplicated information
00:27 bpmedley sri: I'm not that bold just yet.
00:28 sri our users need to learn that lite and normal apps are 99% the same
00:28 sri and that most documentation is simply shared by both
00:29 bpmedley sri: Could the 1% syntax differences be made clearer?
00:29 sri how?
00:30 sri the growing guide should have it covered pretty well
00:30 bpmedley sri: Let me look.  I just remember I also had some confusion when I first started; however, I was able to get all my info from the docs and looked at almost no code.
00:31 sri that one guy in #perl is not really representative, he simply skipped too much or didn't look at all
00:31 sri but suggestions for making it more obvious are of course welcome
00:34 bpmedley sri: From my own perspective, in retrospect, my difficulties starting out may have just been due to my ignoranice of the framework.
00:35 sri in my experience almost all learning trouble is caused by folks skipping the lite tutorial
00:36 sri http://mojolicio.us/perldoc#TUTORIAL # even mentions that it's a prereq for the guides now
00:37 bpmedley sri: Maybe a flowchart is needed.. :-P
00:37 sri ;p

08:47 Mad_Dud hi guys, could you throw at me some howto have hypnotoad with ssl?
08:48 buu Step 1) Put apache in front of it
08:48 * buu shrugs
08:48 Mad_Dud please, dont... dont even joke about that
08:49 buu Why?
08:50 bobkare Mad_Dud: hypnotoad is often used behind some kind of frontend server. I use varnish, and pound in front of that again for SSL
08:51 Mad_Dud bobkare: okey
08:53 buu But apache..
08:53 Mad_Dud .. so you run hypnotoad on some high port accesable only localy and have port forwarding on "normal" http server?
08:53 Mad_Dud can you recommend any doc, blog or anything, which would show me good practices for this setup?
08:54 buu It's fairly standard reverse proxying
08:55 Mad_Dud so i can pick 1st result from googling "apache reverse proxying ssl howto"?
08:57 Mad_Dud i'm sorry. i have never managed to it properly. that's why i'm asking you for documentation ad "standard" does not help me much.

12:27 sri hmmm
12:28 sri what about "plugin 'GZip';" and "$self->render(template => 'foo/bar', gzip => 1);"?
12:29 sri the plugin would register an after_dispatch hook that checks the accept_encoding header if $stash->{gzip} is true

12:55 sri you can set app->defaults(gzip => 1) to have compression application wide and disable it locally with gzip => 0 if necessary
12:56 sri i suppose the plugin could be a neat example for how to do post processing of responses
12:57 sri it will only compress responses in memory though, nothing that gets streamed from files
13:00 sri oops
13:00 sri bug in code!

20:57 marcus sri: the node.js documentation is starting to get pretty good - http://nodejs.org/api/cluster.html#cluster_how_it_works
20:58 sri marcus: it has always been pretty good
21:00 sri i remember getting annoyed that perl support for sendfd is so terrible months ago reading their cluster documentation :)
21:01 marcus :)
21:01 sri it's a better architecture, but less portable
21:02 marcus last time I looked, it kind of lacked a good mvc framework.
21:02 marcus but I'd really like to do a node project sometime soon to learn a bit more
21:02 marcus it has about 10000 mediocre ones tho ;)
21:02 sri i doubt node.js will ever really do mvc

21:04 marcus railway gets the first hit on google now, a expressjs fork
21:04 sri express.js seems to have a monopoly though
21:05 sri at least in books it's the only one mentioned so far
21:05 nicomen joined #mojo
21:06 marcus railway seems newer.
21:06 marcus I've already got it running with a crud :)
21:08 marcus https://www.evernote.com/shard/s22/sh/9310190f-5a14-4642-be52-4a3e8873cf2b/e437162001fef52ad8b650fff24cc361
21:09 marcus lol, default database driver: "memory"
21:09 sri :)
21:09 sri at least it's web scale!
21:09 marcus yeah!
21:10 marcus it actually lost my data after I restarted node too.
21:11 marcus seems very rails inspired, but not horrible
21:12 marcus .ejs templates and stuff
