07:35 marcus Hmm, I guess writing an etcd config plugin for mojo would be really easy.

13:49 bpmedley jast: Have you considered something like AngularJS?
13:57 jast I looked at a whole bunch of these things
13:59 gryphon joined #mojo
13:59 jast gah, ajax.googleapis.com is not loading from here... and everyone always touts the supposed benefits of using google's hosted copies of jquery and everything
14:04 jast oh, now I remember why I initially discarded angularjs... I saw mentions of node.js ;)
14:04 preaction it uses node to run front-to-back tests offline
14:04 bpmedley jast: Which one sounded appealing?
14:04 jast yeah, saw as much while I just looked at it again
14:04 bpmedley jast: When was your last web app?
14:05 jast I liked Knockout.js, but it implements only the viewmodel part
14:05 jast uh... back when there weren't any javascript frameworks save for stuff like jquery :)
14:06 bpmedley jast: My I ask what app you're building?
14:06 jast for the most part I want to build websites/apps that work without javascript, but for this particular app it's not relevant
14:06 bpmedley Why no javascript?
14:06 jast it's part of the internal build infrastructure in our company
14:06 jast (well, it's supposed to become part of it :))
14:08 ka2u joined #mojo
14:08 jast well, I don't have anything against javascript per sé
14:09 jast (though if I can get a website to work even in user agents like lynx, and if it's friendly to all kinds of robots, that's nice)
14:09 bpmedley I'm seeing good things about Ember.  I need to learn one of these fancy js frameworks.. :)
14:10 jast but I get rather frustrated when I have to implement logic twice (e.g. data validation on both client and server)... and it would be ridiculously awesome if someone figured out an elegant way to make that avoidable
14:11 jast or at least a way to cleanly abstract away the duplication into, say, data-centric widgets or something (this is intentionally vague because I have no idea how it'd work :))
14:15 jast one thing that looks hairy in all of these frameworks, at least at first glance, is switching between a display and edit view. the data bindings will probably get screwed up if you start changing the DOM around too much...
14:16 preaction i get around that by having hidden edit elements already available
14:16 jast yeah, that works, but it's not particularly clean
14:17 jast plus it's a fair bit of overhead in a huge list of elements
14:17 preaction i've rarely understood or agreed with the word "clean" as applied to solutions to problems
14:17 preaction not if you're using the client-side to render the list
14:17 jast it's a question of maintainability, for the most part
14:19 jast the *solution* doesn't have to be clean... I don't mind an incredibly ugly hack as long as it doesn't pollute all the template markup I have to write, for instance
14:21 jast side note, Ember's data bindings are marked as "work in progress" and "use with caution". that's the reason I'm discarding that one for now. :)
14:21 preaction i guess my point is that to keep the bindings stable, you'll have one ugly hack, or to add a bunch of hidden edit elements, you'll have another, less-ugly hack
14:22 jast I much prefer uglier hacks if, to make up for it, they're more localized

14:37 jast bpmedley: thanks for pointing out AngularJS. my first impression of it was, apparently, not entirely accurate.

16:26 punter Is there a good reason why Mojo::IOLoop is not AnyEvent compliant yet?
16:26 preaction compliant?
16:26 preaction if AnyEvent is loaded first, Mojo::IOLoop will use it, iirc
16:27 punter A! Sorry! Thanks :-) :-) :-)
16:27 punter Coz I want to use AnyEvent XMPP in my Mojolicious app
16:27 punter I guess I can do that, right?
16:32 preaction i can't see why not
