15:41 marty purl: good morning!!!
15:41 purl For you maybe.

17:28 mst anybody on freenode #perl who can help an idiot?
17:29 jberger_ mst: wow, with an invitation like that, who could refuse?
17:30 johnny5_ joined #mojo
17:30 mst well, there's a mojo user on there who went "my session data is greater than 4096 bytes, clearly I should ignore mojo and use CGI::Session"
17:30 mst I think with a train of thought like that, 'idiot' is quite accurate
17:31 mst but I wasn't sure what to recommend instead
17:31 jberger_ sure is
17:32 mst anyway, he's apparently found MojoX::Session and a plugin called ServerSession and will hopefully use one of those
17:32 jberger_ sounds like he is storing too much in the session, I would recommend either client-side session store or else server side persistence
17:32 jberger_ but I'm sure you know that
17:33 johnny5_ joined #mojo
17:33 sri pretty sure he's here too
17:34 mst howitdo: argh. you're already here.
17:34 mst howitdo: ask in the right channel next time!
17:34 * mst cries
17:34 sri you don't want to ask me questions like that though... i'd just yell at you if your session was bigger than 4096 bytes
17:35 howitdo it was general because I've had the issue in other non-mojo based code.
17:35 mst ah, right, so you lied to freenode #perl about the actual problem
17:35 mst howitdo: well, fuck you then.
17:35 mst howitdo: *PLONK*
17:36 jberger_ now, now, lets keep it civil
17:36 howitdo alrighty then, and a good day to you too
17:36 sri yea
17:36 sri mst: that was a bit over the top
17:37 * mst shrugs
17:38 mst I've killfiled him now, he can waste somebody else's time.

18:48 * marty just finished watching the 4400 series and now wants to be promicine positive
18:54 sri :)
18:55 sri marty: so, you finished all the a list series already?
18:57 marty sri:  just a few. I finished bsg, lost, 4400 and most of firefly.   not sure what to do next.   Maybe a star trek.
18:57 jberger_ I guess I liked watching through Voyager, but I wish the end had been better
18:57 sri maybe a series that's still running, like person of interest
18:58 marty 4400 ending was kinda lame also.  not bad, just not real good
18:58 marty I try to stay away from running series.  I loose interest if I have to wait a week in between.  :)
18:58 jberger_ for voyager, I wish they had gotten back a few episodes before the end, I wish pathfinder had more involvment in their return, and I wish we could have seen a little bit of their life back on earth
18:59 sri you could also try farscape
19:00 marty I watched one and had a hard time getting into it.  but ya, I might try that one again.   I kinda liked the look of it.
19:01 sri it's very quirky
19:01 jberger_ think of this, voyager gets home due to some heroics by barclay, we see some "welcome home" and reintegration problems, then in the last episode species 8472 decides to attack earth anyway, but luckily the voyager crew is here to help negotiate peace back from the brink of destruction of earth!
19:01 jberger_ much better
19:01 * marty likes quirky
19:01 * sri loved it 10 years ago
19:02 sri of course you have to watch doctor who then
19:04 marty yep, I'm planning on doing doctor who.  I've seen a few old episodes here and there and liked them.
19:05 sri you did watch fringe right?
19:05 SmokeMachine joined #mojo
19:05 sri oh my, you also have babylon 5 to look forward to :o
19:05 * sri is jealous
19:06 mst I kinda got bored of farscape
19:06 * marty looks up babylon 5
19:06 mst it didn't have sufficiently good plot to get me over the cheese
19:08 sri about time for a new star trek series
19:08 russum1 joined #mojo
19:08 sri but it's all about marvel and super heroes now
19:09 sri at least no more vampires -.-
19:09 jberger_ sri: I agree, what with the new movies, there is a new base, many of whom haven't watched the old (or even newer) series
19:10 jberger_ marty: I guess you are waiting on GoT
19:10 marty I have watched a few fringe episodes.   My only problem is, every time the doctor speaks I hear Denethor II, Steward of Gondor speaking.  Blows it for me.
19:10 jberger_ haha, I had that happen too!
19:10 sri lol
19:10 marty GoT?
19:10 jberger_ Game of Thrones
19:10 purl Game of Thrones is, like, starting on hbo this weekend, btw, as if anyone interested needed a reminder
19:11 marty ahhhh
19:11 sri that would be a long wait
19:11 jberger_ purl's on it
19:12 jberger_ btw, I highly recommend the books
19:13 jberger_ except that they too are frustratingly unfinished!
19:13 Mike-PerlRecruiter_ joined #mojo
19:13 jberger_ but it is such a spectacularly full universe, I got almost as much NEW out of it on a second reading
19:14 mst I'm waiting to do the second reading until another book comes out
19:15 jberger_ mst: that will be my third reading, I did my second when DwD came out
19:15 jberger_ mst: btw, the next time I read it I intend to do this: http://boiledleather.com/post/24543217702/a-proposed-a-feast-for-crows-a-dance-with-dragons

19:16 mst oh, I way of interleaving the two books that are geogrpahically split?
19:16 jberger_ yep!
19:17 mst that might be a good idea, yeah
19:17 jberger_ its so hard for me to go back to Jon being ... well ... in his "new" position after all that time watching the other characters age
19:19 jberger_ also, since I actually have been doing the audiobooks not "reading", creating the new order shouldn't be too hard

22:05 sri oh, FFI::Raw installs on os x again \o/
22:06 sri those IO::Socket::SSL security changes look pretty good too https://metacpan.org/changes/distribution/IO-Socket-SSL
22:06 sri finally perfect forward secrecy by default
22:16 marty does anyone know if I need to do anything other than set MOJO_MAX_MESSAGE_SIZE to a very large value to solve the 413 Request Entity Too Large'  message?
22:24 sri well, does it work?
22:26 jberger_ FFI::Raw was how we are thinking of writing a UV reactor
22:27 jberger_ me and the author of this: https://metacpan.org/release/ZMQ-FFI
22:27 * sri is all for more *::FFI modules
22:28 jberger_ and the run4flat is tinkering with his even more ambitious stuff :-)
22:29 jberger_ https://github.com/run4flat/C-Blocks
22:29 sri FFI::Raw is one of those things i would love to see in core
22:29 jberger_ it really should be
22:29 jberger_ or some C types thing
22:29 sri ruby still totally fails there, perl could beat it
22:30 jberger_ maybe I'm just not in touch with things, but is Ruby still the hotness?
22:30 sri not really
22:30 jberger_ from where I sit, it seems that node has replaced ruby
22:31 jberger_ and ruby really only had rails right?
22:31 sri all dynamic languages are dying now... except for javascript
22:31 jberger_ (and sinatra I suppose)
22:31 jberger_ I think Perl has an edge there, it has worked out a lot of its kinks already
22:31 jberger_ I still love that javascript added a strict
22:32 jberger_ and they even called it strict!
22:32 jberger_ sri: did you see the scientific example I'm working up for the YAPC::Brazil talk
22:32 sri nope
22:33 jberger_ I am excited about new Perl OO systems, and until we have p5 mop, Moops is fun
22:33 jberger_ https://gist.github.com/jberger/7394679
22:33 jberger_ its MooseX::Declare except with newer better tools
22:34 sri ETOOMUCHXS
22:34 jberger_ ENOTVERYMUCHXS
22:34 jberger_ too much for Mojo still
22:34 jberger_ but not very much
22:35 sri type checks also make me nervous, soooooo slooooooooow
22:36 jberger_ Type::TIny is supposed to be much faster
22:36 jberger_ in this example I don't really need them
22:36 jberger_ although the coercion on the Coordinate type is rather important
22:37 jberger_ I don't need the type strict methods really
22:37 jberger_ but since this is an example, I'm showing off what's possible
