08:17 batman https://github.com/marcusramberg/mojo-redis/pull/29 # i've added client_list() to Mojo::Redis. what do you think marcus?

08:20 marcus batman: I'm not sure, as I've never used client list - but it looks sane enough I guess.
08:20 * marcus is trying out firefox 29, and liking it so far. Will try switching from chrome
08:23 batman switch -from- chrome? *crazytalk* ;)
08:24 batman marcus: i want to use it as implicit locking: unless a given client exists in the hash i can continue doing my stuff
08:25 marcus I guess I'm tied to chrome because of my chromecast anyways.
08:25 batman ok. i think the syncing in chrome is pretty sweet.
08:25 batman i don't think it scales very well (client_list()) but it works for my usecase
08:25 marcus that sounds really scary to me, but who am I to judge :)
08:26 batman the locking idea?
08:26 marcus Yeah
08:26 marcus Why not just use a script to make things run atomically?
08:26 marcus http://redis.io/commands/script-load
08:27 batman 1. i got redis 2.4.x 2. i need the lock to exist for 5 seconds or maybe a couple of minutes.
08:27 batman it's an application lock
08:28 gatitskiy joined #mojo
08:28 batman i tried using setnx(), but i have no good way of removing it :(
08:28 stephan48 you can have syncing with FF too
08:28 stephan48 even via your own servers if you want
08:28 batman stephan48: it was awful when i first tried it. not going to try it again.
08:30 stephan48 i am so used to the quirks of firefox that i don't care anymore
08:31 batman haha.
08:31 batman i like when things work.
08:32 batman especially things i can't fix.
08:32 stephan48 but i also see firefox as the only useable browser atm...
08:33 stephan48 opera.... lets dont talk about it, chrome... google, IE... ....., no more alternatives i think
08:33 batman what's wrong with chrome?
08:34 stephan48 i don't like google that much and the few times i used it at work for website testing, it did a good job with constantly pestering me to sign in to google
08:35 batman ok... not liking google is something i don't get, so... :)
08:35 stephan48 :)
08:36 Adura You pay for Chrome via being data mined.
08:37 batman you do? i thought that was a decision you could make...
08:37 batman even so, i like the data mining feature it gives me.
08:37 Vandal joined #mojo
08:37 batman allowing chrome to work exactly like i left it, even when installing on a new computer.
08:37 stephan48 heh
08:37 Adura I personally don't like being data mined... hah.
08:38 batman then you should move to a cave.
08:38 batman got a cell phone..?
08:38 Adura Nope.
08:38 batman impressive.
08:38 batman ever visit a web page with cookies?
08:39 Adura I whitelist sites.
08:39 batman ok :)
08:40 batman i'm amazed how someone can actually do that without locking themselves out of services that makes the internet useful...
08:40 Adura When it's useful, I'll whitelist for session.
08:41 Adura Most of the sites that require external js/plugins/cookies are those social sites anyway.

12:44 nic I avoided chrome for ages cos it fails on more sites than firefox
12:45 nic But then I discovered Vanilla Cookie Manager which does exactly what I've been wanting on ff
12:45 nic So I'm now on the fence and thinking about jumping to chrome
12:46 nic If anyone does VCM for ff I'd move back, cos ff has perfect ad-blocking, but none of the ff plugins did low-maintenance cookie whitelisting
12:47 nic I'm only mentioning cos with that usage, chrome gives you _less_ monitoring from Google than ff does

13:39 genio Chrome settings.  show advanced.  check "send do not track". click "content settings" under privacy.  check "block third-party cookies an site data". check "keep local data only until you quit your broser".  "do not allow pop-ups".  on everything else, make it ask you for permission.   Now, when you visit a site, you'll see a little icon in your tool bar showing you that it's blocking some stuff, you click on it to see if you want to allow ...
13:39 genio ... those things
13:39 genio chrome takes only a few seconds to setup
