08:00 niczero sri: Have you considered letting people pay directly to your paypal account?
08:01 niczero Maybe it's a security risk; I'm just thinking it's a very efficient route for the sender
08:02 niczero (esp the international, non-euro, non-dollar sender)
08:02 niczero (I'm thinking of the ad-hoc small amount sender :)

14:27 timhtheos hi
14:27 purl privet, timhtheos.
14:27 timhtheos can i print directly a subroutine returned value in an .ep file?
14:27 timhtheos thanks
14:30 btyler timhtheos: http://mojolicio.us/perldoc/Mojo/Template#SYNTAX the second and third lines take arbitrary perl expressions
14:32 btyler timhtheos: and if you're looking for how to define those subroutines, see: http://mojolicio.us/perldoc/Mojolicious/Guides/Tutorial#Helpers

19:22 ningu joined #mojo
19:28 ningu I'm using Mojo::DOM to parse an XML file. I do foreach my $entry ($dom->find('entry')->each) { ... } and within that I want to find all <note> elements that are immediate children of the <entry> element.
19:29 ningu I've tried $entry->find('entry > note') but it doesn't work. any idea why?
19:29 Grinnz_ why not just $dom->find('entry note') ?
19:29 ningu because I need other things too from each entry.
19:29 ningu and entries have subentries and those have notes... and I don't want those at this moment in the code :)
19:30 Grinnz_ ningu: becqause there is no entry inside the entry
19:30 ningu ok so how about $entry->find('note:root') ? that doesn't work either.
19:30 ningu oh, because it isn't the root note... it's just at the top.
19:30 Grinnz_ ningu: the notes aren't the root either...  maybe ':root note'
19:30 ningu yeah.
19:30 ningu node*
19:30 ningu I'll try that
19:31 Grinnz_ ningu: i would suggest maybe a more specific accessor than find, since you know where these will be
19:31 Grinnz_ but find with the right selector could be just as specific i guess
19:32 sri http://mojolicio.us/perldoc/Mojo/DOM#children
19:33 Grinnz_ would ->children('note') do the right thing? (exclude <note> that aren't direct children)
19:33 ningu from the docs it looks like it will work.
19:33 ningu trying it now.
19:34 Grinnz_ i havent used children and im a bit confused by the docs, since both children and find show the same "example selector"
19:34 ningu yep children works
19:36 jberger I don't know when children would work and > wouldn't
19:37 Grinnz_ ah right, > is the direct parent indicator
19:37 Grinnz_ so in that case the find selector should have been ':root > note'
19:40 ningu yes but ':root > note' didn't seem to work, maybe because there was no single root node
19:40 Grinnz_ hm
19:40 ningu <entry>'s have many children and so $entry ends up being a dom object with several children and no single root node
19:40 Grinnz_ right

22:03 sri jberger: it's not children vs >, but children vs find
22:03 sri one searches children and one searches descendants
22:04 sri selectors always have the same meaning, it's only a different element subset you apply them to
22:05 Grinnz_ sri: so how would 'foo > bar' match children?
22:06 Grinnz_ wouldnt that have to be a layer deeper?
22:06 sri you're right, it's actually a bad example that never works
22:06 Grinnz_ ah!
22:08 sri i guess a sibling combinator would make for a better generic selector example
22:11 disputin joined #mojo
22:13 Grinnz_ so in a way, children is just a "selector" that limits it to direct children, which there doesnt really seem to be a way to do that in css
22:14 Grinnz_ without including the current element
22:15 sri stuff is being worked on for css4... but nothing exists currently

22:16 good_news_everyon mojo/master decc47c Sebastian Riedel: use a better generic selector in examples

22:18 Grinnz_ sri: i think that distinction could be made clearer just by saying "Find all direct child elements..." for the children description.. right now my brain just sees the two descriptions and they look the same
22:18 sri what are indirect children?
22:18 Grinnz_ it would be emphasis, rather than category :P
22:19 sri i've spent quite some time researching the correct terminology
22:19 * Grinnz_ shrugs
22:19 sri "children" is already very specific
22:20 Grinnz_ maybe "child elements (direct descendents)" ? to relate it to the term used in the other description
22:20 sri all children are descendants, but not all descendants are children
22:20 sri if you want changes there i'd like direct quotes from the specs
22:22 Grinnz_ wtf it is actually spelled descendant, english is strange
23:05 jberger sri: ok that makes sense
