08:07 nic damaya__: I include a lot of multi line sql
08:08 nic joined #mojo
08:09 nic each chunk is aligned to the left margin so it's clearly separate from the perl
08:11 Vandal joined #mojo
08:11 nic and follows our sql standards - eg non-keywords indented one level
08:12 nic Makes it easy to read the perl+sql algorithm
08:12 nic and easy to extract the sql for alternative testing
08:15 nic But when we're using dumb sql - gets & puts - that is abstracted to a separate file

12:20 bpmedley http://bmedley.org/mojo.pdf  <— More edits.  Can I get some comments on content and layout?  It still needs work; however, I’d like some feedback.
12:21 bpmedley I need to add form validiation, template layouts, deployment, and possibly a blurb about non-blocking.

13:33 pink_mist please, if you can, do much more than a blurb about non-blocking ... that is probably the /best/ feature of Mojolicious in my opinion, and it doesn't get enough mention

13:43 sri bpmedley: it seems a bit aimless atm.
13:43 sri most of the information is the same as in the official docs
13:44 sri if i was writing a book about mojolicious, i would model it after the flask book http://flaskbook.com/
13:45 sri not a listing of features (like the core docs), but app oriented tutorials
13:47 sri don't think i actually could write one chapter at a time without planning ahead
13:49 * sri would have to have planned the entire strucutre of the book before he started writing the first word ;p

15:30 bpmedley Thanks for the feedback
15:34 batman bpmedley: keep up the good work :)
15:35 batman i think "they" have valid points though... i always ask myself if the "other person" would read what i'm writing and even make sense of it.
15:35 batman it's an interesting exercise. i've never tried to write a book, but it's probably the same thing.
15:35 batman rip of someone else. that's what i would do.
15:36 batman rip off = get inspired by, is probably a better word :)
15:36 bpmedley I wonder if I should redo Chapter 1 with a couple Mojolicioius::Lite apps.
15:36 batman bpmedley: have you looked at an existing book when you built your structure or did you wing it?
15:38 bpmedley batman: I looked at a few table of contents and skimmed a couple.
15:38 batman let me know if you can't understand what i'm writing. i notice i have a lot of spelling mistakes today :(
15:38 batman bpmedley: ok.
15:43 bpmedley It’s the first time I’ve written more than 10 pages, so first fail is not necessarily a bad thing.  Must fail faster.
15:43 batman bpmedley: failing is never a bad thing. it's all about perspective :)
15:48 sri fail is relative, i'm sure you can recycle almost everything you wrote
15:49 bpmedley Thanks.  I plan on using the tutorial/app approach.
15:55 batman bpmedley: i really don't think you need to reinvent this wheel. i would probably copy a rails book or something.
15:56 batman copy = copy the complete structure.
15:56 bpmedley That’s why I read the table of contents and skimmed other books.
15:56 bpmedley Hrmm
15:56 bpmedley A lot of them have the structure I’ve started with: show some features and then show a full app.
15:57 batman bpmedley: ok. i will shut up now, since i haven't read a book for a while :(
15:57 bpmedley No worries, thx for the feedback.
15:58 batman :)
15:59 ajr_ bpmedley; consider what you want the reader to be able to do by the end of the book, divide it up into topics (in order of dependency), and work backwards from high-levle topics to details. (Start simple and build.)
16:00 bpmedley ajr_: Thanks, that is helpful.
16:31 KimmoNO joined #mojo
16:42 ajr_ bpmedley; you might also want to make it explicit what you expect the reader to know before they start reading. Keep things as simple as possible. There are so many packages around today, it's impossible to know them all.
16:43 bpmedley ajr_: Thanks, I make a note to add that.

18:57 thowe Does github not record commit activity for forked repos?  Or was my commit just too tiny to matter.
19:01 thowe Anyway...  I'm super excited that afresh1 has actually been working on a Mojo version of the Undeadly site.  So I'm trying to fill in some of the gaps to see if we can make that happen.
19:02 thowe I met jberger at yapc.  That was nice.
19:07 bpmedley thowe: What is Undeadly?  I did google; however, there is ambiguity.

19:08 bpmedley I read the first post and thought it was the audio driver for bsd.. ;)
19:09 thowe Yeah, I just got errata scraping working.  It's been broken on the actual site for a while.  Mostly due to the horrible markup on the main openbsd site.
