08:38 polettix hello all
08:38 purl It's a crazy world, but hello to you too!
08:40 polettix I have a Minion worker that basically does nothing
08:40 polettix in the sense that the whole app is just sitting there, nobody is using it
08:41 polettix but I see a pattern of increasing memory usage over time
08:42 polettix did anyone ever experienced anything like this? I’m thinking about setting up an empty application and let it run for a few days to double check this
08:43 polettix oh, btw I’m using the SQLite backend
08:44 sri it's not supposed to leak
08:45 polettix there can be a ton things that go wrong, but this is the memory usage pattern in the last two weeks or so: https://polettix.it/public/polettix.it-memory-AVERAGE-3600.png
08:45 polettix last Friday I did a restart of the container running the Minion
08:46 polettix I’ll try to setup an empty minion worker with SQLite backend and let it run while monitoring its memory usage, and I’ll let you know
08:47 sri wouldn't be surprised if it was baused by the sqlite backend
08:47 sri s/b/c/
08:48 polettix yes, that struck me as a probable cause too
08:48 polettix I can try to setup something with a PG backend too and run them in parallel, just to have a control group

17:55 sri it's so weird how linux got less user friendly in many regards over the last 20 years
17:56 sri booting into single user more really shouldn't be so difficult
17:56 sri s/more/mode/
18:14 sri actually, ubuntu gets it right
18:15 sri debian too
18:16 sri looks like only redhat and suse don't have entries for that in the grub menu
18:29 bpmedley sri : Did you get your / partition fixed up?
18:29 sri nope, i left it the way it was
18:30 bpmedley Gaw, sounds like frustration.  Is your setup working well for you, or are there issues?
18:31 sri turned out the boot process would have been slow anyway since some drivers block for a long time
18:31 sri and afterwards everything is being kept in the page cache anyway, with those 32gigs of ram
18:31 sri so, not worth the trouble yet
18:35 PryMar56 joined #mojo
18:36 bpmedley That's cool.  Sounds like a sweet setup that happened almost by accident.. :-)
18:37 sri nothing sweet about drivers blocking forever Oo
18:38 bpmedley Hrrm, perhaps a setup you can live with, at least?
18:41 sri honestly, right now i'm contemplating a setup where i use the linux laptop as a server and do the editing from a mac
18:43 bpmedley i see, sounds like computer craziness.  Seems like some of the computing industry has taken a small step backwards lately.

19:36 sri one thing i never appreciated enough about macs is the command key :)
19:37 sri having an extra meta key that no command line app uses is so useful
19:38 sri all linux terminal apps have to use weird key combos to get stuff done, like ctrl+shift+c
19:39 sri or like f3 for find next... that's so clunky
19:43 rshadow joined #mojo
20:00 nicomen f3 for find next does not sound like a unix/linux-thing
20:00 nicomen (sounds more like a windows thing, like f5, alt+f4 etc)

20:49 sri anyone using sshfs regularly? how reliable is it?
20:50 nicomen for me it works just fine, but some editors doing excessive dir/file locking/stating might cause it to go slow/hang sometimes
20:50 nicomen actually nowadays I use built-in userland ssh fs mounting in gnome
20:51 sri so, git cloning into an sshfs mount would be problematic?
20:52 sri and does it recover fine from network problems?
20:53 nicomen everything works fine, reconnecting in the background etc. but yes network changes etc. might lock up something trying to write to it until it recovers
20:54 nicomen not sure if it has any built-in caching
20:54 sri ah, neat
20:54 nicomen the kde/gnome mounting might provide some more wrapping to ensure smoothness
20:54 sri seems unlikely
20:55 stephan48 Atom over sshfs is a bit sluggish, f.e. Sublime works well
20:57 nicomen stephan48: do you know if 1.8.0 solved that?
20:57 stephan48 Atom 1.8.0?
20:57 nicomen yes
20:58 stephan48 notably it only started after i initialized a git repo on the tree
20:58 nicomen the bugs filed indicate git integration slugginess
20:58 nicomen but they also say 1.8.0 beta3 should help
20:59 sri atom is now at 1.11.1
20:59 stephan48 i got 1.10.1
20:59 nicomen ah lol
20:59 stephan48 tested on a mac via macfuse/expandrive which both ship similar fuse based sshfs drivers
20:59 nicomen 1.8 is old, from june...
21:00 stephan48 also, the connection to the respective server tops out at about 2MBit/s so i don't know if it would perform better if it could use more bandwith
21:05 sri never heard of expandrive, actually looks interesting
21:10 stephan48 yes i use to to emulate sshfs on windows/mac
21:10 stephan48 works great
21:11 stephan48 and is fairly intelligent about network interruptions(f.e. hibernate)
21:13 stephan48 on windows it interacts with pageant and under mac os x with ssh-agent

23:15 suede hey guys, i've been told that hypnotoad and starman were pretty much the options for runing Mojolicious under Nginx and other web servers
23:15 suede Which would you recommend?
23:16 bpmedley suede : hypnotoad has more features, last I heard; in particular, websockets are supported
