17:40 Grinnz http://comicbook.com/marvel/2017/09/07/marvel-and-star-wars-movies-leaving-netflix-2019/ :(
17:43 jberger sometimes they saber rattle to get more money in their next contract
17:43 Grinnz doesn't look like saber rattling, they're serious about this disney streaming service
17:43 jberger yeah, I commented before reading, shame on me
17:44 Grinnz wonder how much it will fragment before people arent willing to pay for another monthly $10
17:44 jberger the problem really is the cost level
17:45 jberger when you look at paying $50-70 ish bucks for cable service (not counting the $50 you are paying for internet)
17:45 jberger that means you can do 5 $10 services and break even
17:45 Grinnz right now i'm doing $10 netflix + $8-ish amazon prime instead of $70 cable, but add in a few more streaming services and i might as well go with what my cable company has to offer
17:45 jberger but you don't break even because with the cable service you get everything they offer, not just one silo
17:46 Grinnz plus i happen to have the one decent cable company in the us here :P
17:46 jberger IMO if each network offered their streaming service at $5 or less then everyone could pick and choose, but $10-15 per isn't going to fly
17:46 jberger Grinnz: which company?
17:46 Grinnz Optimum
17:46 Grinnz aka Cablevision
17:47 Grinnz i had Charter before that and they werent terrible, really
17:47 jberger we chose to un-cord-cut because of live sports
17:47 jberger it made me sad but it had to be done
17:47 Grinnz yeah thats the one benefit of not caring about sports :P
17:47 jberger the Cubs and Blackhawks have been too much fun to not be able to see
17:48 tyldis Pretty much all sports here went on premium channels, so not even in the basic cable service
17:48 PopeF I have Netflix, and Stars for American Gods.
17:48 PopeF Starz
17:48 PopeF Stupid autocorrect
17:49 Grinnz deciding whether to add $15 a month for HBO has already been an ongoing struggle
17:49 Grinnz if it was $5-$8 it would be a no brainer
17:49 jberger HBO is a must for me
17:49 jberger plus $15 is the same as the cable addon would be
17:50 Grinnz sure
17:50 jberger so IMO that's a different story
17:50 Grinnz but like, i'd get the same value out of it as adding this disney service, probably
17:50 jberger the question is about basic cable network
17:50 jberger *s
17:50 jberger sure, disney has a lot of products
17:50 jberger would it pull ABC and ESPN in with it too?
17:51 Grinnz hmm that would be interesting, but they havent said anything about that
17:51 Grinnz i wouldnt be surprised if it offered ABC shows though
17:51 jberger anyway, its a fun thing to think about and I am curious to see where it goes
17:52 jberger maybe people shift back to piracy as the days of reasonable payment systems for content fracture?
17:52 tyldis The problem with all these streaming services is that they sometimes clash with pre-existing licensing. Netflix in Norway doesn't even have all the Netflix originals because they icensed them to cable channels.
17:52 Grinnz also a good point; netflix as it was made piracy unnecessary for a lot of people
17:53 jberger same with itunes etc
17:53 jberger when people could pay just for the content they wanted (easily) it helped curb piracy
17:54 tyldis To be honest I pay my Netflix tax and then do the old thing for the rest.
17:54 jberger but will people want to pay $10/mo for a hypothetical discovery network service just to watch the Unabomber mini-series? I don't know
17:55 Grinnz and thats the thing, if networks that dont have as much to offer start trying to make their own service, and then people have to pay another company and use another app, even if its cheaper it's still a hassle
17:55 tyldis And that's another shitty app with useless navigation :)
17:55 PopeF Leading to consolid
17:56 PopeF Leading to consolidation and (effectively) new networks
17:56 jberger heh, paying for one or two of these services (say Netflix and Prime for me) does make it feel like you are a little more justified in ... supplementing ... their content
17:56 tyldis jberger: Exactly what I'm telling myself.
17:57 tyldis And the supplements are far more convenient than any app
17:57 tyldis And more complete
17:57 * PopeF will sometimes pirate media he owns in other formats just to avoid the hassle of ripping it and uploading it to Plex.
17:58 PopeF Does anyone know of a CDDB-like service for DVD / BluRay?
17:58 jberger Radarr/Sonarr are able to do it, though I'm not sure how
17:58 jberger and not that I know what any of that is :P ...
17:58 tyldis I think most stuff use the TMDB APIs
17:59 tyldis Same goes with trackers/indexers
18:01 jberger ok, back on topic ....
18:01 jberger is anyone willing to burn the brain cells necessary to open the template code coverage question again? https://github.com/pjcj/Devel--Cover/issues/31#issuecomment-327867119
18:01 jberger this would be a spectacular place for contributions if you are interested

18:39 maschine my presentation of my mojo app went well yesterday.. they want me to show it to upper management now. :)
18:40 maschine maybe we can ditch all these monolithic windows apps that only work on local machines..
18:40 maschine and stop using word, excel and PDF files like they're webpages.  ugh.
18:43 mohawk awesome

18:57 tyldis I love those kind of sites
18:57 tyldis maschine: HR at my company launched a nice Drupal based "intranet" a few years ago. With just hosted PDF and doc files without any sort of indexing. It was even relaunched this year with some new CSS.
18:57 tyldis Still unindexed files so nobody finds anything.
18:57 maschine we used to have this thing called the 'Corporate Menu'.  It was basically an MS word 'webpage' with hundreds of links to other word 'webpages' that had links to other docs.. it was terrible
18:58 tyldis The golden standrd of "intranets"
18:58 maschine we actually still have it but now we're supposed to use Sharepoint, which is not much better.
18:58 tyldis Hehehe
18:59 tyldis We now also have Business 360, which is some crap built on top of Sharepoint - without usign any of the actua friggin benefits of Sharepoint (yes, there are one or two).
18:59 tyldis Only supports IE.
19:00 tyldis I thought we were past that these days.
19:01 tyldis But it's cool. No folders and hierarchies! And tags! You just tag stuff and then you can find it again! Only downside is that all tags must be predefined by an administrator.
19:03 maschine yeah we talked about something like that for all our help documents that nobody knows how to find.  I don't think it went anywhere (you still can't find them on sharepoint).  Actually that gives me another idea
19:04 maschine and when you have 13 terrabytes of files how do you remember all the tags? lol
19:05 tyldis The indexing breaks, but I found a hack: if I paste the whole content of the document into a meta field that for some reason is unlimited and hidden...
19:06 tyldis It's all indexed!
19:06 tyldis Yay! And some consultant will probably get a very fun time debugging something at sometime due to it.
19:07 tyldis Fortunately the devs can settle for a wiki for 99% of our needs and that was accepted as we cannot rely on Windows when shit hits the fan.
19:07 tyldis Puh. Felt good getting that out.

23:09 maschine is there a way to disable warnings for uninitialized values inside templates?
23:09 marty joined #mojo
23:10 Grinnz no warnings 'uninitialized';
23:10 maschine do I add that to the template?  I have 'no warnings qw(uninitialized);' in myapp.pl but it doesn't apply outside it's scope (I had to add it to my models and controllers too)
23:11 Grinnz it applies to the lexical scope you put it in; the template isn't compiled in your app's lexical scope, so yes
23:12 maschine thanks
23:14 maschine also finally found where I was getting 'Unrecognized escape \d passed through at (eval 95) line 129'
23:14 maschine turns out I accidentally pasted \d into one of the lines in myapp.conf.  ugh
