08:38 sri frontend web dev is hard...
08:39 sri how do you fit 20000 menu items into a side bar?
08:39 sri without killing browsers
08:41 sri bootstrap-treeview looks kinda nice, but gets really sluggish once you hit a few thousand nodes
08:43 coolo sri: I still enjoy watching you struggeling :)

12:03 mishanti1 sri: How do you add them? With javascript?
12:04 mishanti1 sri: Because I've experienced that when inserting a whole lot I need to batch inserting elements so that I insert them in one go. If inserting items one by one it gets progressively slower the more have been inserted.
12:04 mishanti1 s/have/has/
12:04 sri mishanti1: that's not how bootstrap-treeview works
12:05 sri it knows all nodes right from the start
12:05 sri just expanding a folder with 5000 nodes takes a few seconds
12:07 mishanti1 sri: Okay. Never used that one. I've just run into that issue when eg. inserting <li>'s in a <ul>.
12:32 sri so, what other tree components do people around here like?
12:32 sri this one seems kinda popular https://www.jstree.com
12:33 sri this is the one i use at the moment https://github.com/jonmiles/bootstrap-treeview
12:33 sri and i quite like it aside from the sluggishness with drawing 5000 nodes
12:36 Vandal ypu think its components limitation and not javascript/browser?

14:34 marcus hmm, trying to use prepend with EPRenderer to enable signatures in templates, but not working. I must be doing it wrong. :-/
14:41 marcus sri: Was expecting `plugin 'EPRenderer' => { prepend => "use experimental 'signatures';" };` to enable signatures,  but I'm doing it wrong apparently :-/
14:53 marcus ah, { template => { ... }}
14:57 batman Could we have a look at https://github.com/kraih/mojo/issues/830 again?
15:03 jberger tyldis: tempting, but it would be quite an uproot of the family (meaning mostly my wife)
15:06 tyldis jberger: We are establishing offices in Santa Clara as well, and for the right candidate it's a possible option ;)
15:07 jberger wow, that's quite an investment on your part
15:07 tyldis A big chunk of our customers are now in the Bay Area
15:07 Grinnz batman: unfortunately nothing's changed in the problems with using signatures; it's still experimental, and there's no complete polyfill
15:08 jberger Grinnz: that was my comment too (though I made it on #830 rather than here)
15:08 tyldis So we need presence. Mostly sales at this point, but we will also have techies there for extended periods
15:08 batman That's too bad.
15:11 jberger now we could push the envelope to require 5.22 :D
15:11 jberger at least once it goes non-experimental, presumably in the next major release of perl
15:21 sri i have to deploy to 5.18 these days, so not a chance :p
15:22 arcanez such an old perl
15:23 coolo sri: you really should go with a perldev container :)
15:23 arcanez alpine 3.6 uses 5.24
15:23 arcanez which is what I deploy *shrug*
15:24 sri http://i.memecaptain.com/gend_images/BtB7ow.jpg
15:25 tyldis arcanez: You use alpine over official perl container?
15:28 pink_mist sri: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCDgJiPBxfI :P

16:42 tyldis pink_mist: I'm isolating the refrain on that. Will hook it to our CI/CD monitoring ;)
16:44 arcanez tyldis: yeah. RUN apk update && apk add perl-dev
16:54 arcanez then I install cpanm and carton and carton install the deps

17:17 jabberwok Should Mojo::Util::tablify handle non-rectangular tables? I would expect » tablify [ [3, 7], [9, 12], [1]]  « to space-fill the third row, but I get "missing argument to sprintf" errors
17:19 bianca joined #mojo
17:24 trone joined #mojo
17:29 tyldis I think it only does perpendicular tables
17:30 tyldis ;)
17:30 Grinnz most Mojo::Util functions are simple to a fault, on purpose, so don't deal with unexpected input
17:30 Grinnz if there's an easy way to make it handle that case though it might be a good thing to PR
17:32 jabberwok ok

21:32 jberger jabberwok: well clearly you need to make sure it passes existing tests
21:33 jberger and once you've done that can you please add a test
21:34 jberger also, that second line looks longer than the character limit
21:34 jberger I guess this should be comments on the PR, I'll move it there
21:40 Grinnz the test failures appear to be because it's supposed to join columns on 2 spaces, not 1
21:42 jberger as to the line length, the "scalar" keyword is unnecessary I think
21:42 jberger not sure if that gets you under the line
